Phil Harris

Trivia

Phil Harris

Edit
  • Originally was cast to reprise his role as the voice of Baloo in the 1990 animated TV series Super Baloo (1990). However, after one recording session, it was found that Harris, who was by then 85 years old, had aged to the point where he could no longer do the voice successfully and the role went to veteran voice actor Ed Gilbert instead.
  • Twice voiced bears for Walt Disney: Baloo in Le Livre de la jungle (1967) and Little John in Robin des Bois (1973). He also voiced the cat Thomas O'Malley in Les Aristochats (1970).
  • Was an avid golfer and won many amateur golf tournaments. Took over managing the Bing Crosby Golf Tournament after Crosby's death.
  • Interred at Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Cathedral City (near Palm Springs), CA, with his wife, Alice Faye. His unusual urn is in the shape of a blue ocean wave with three gold dolphins leaping over the top.
  • During World War II, he was a member of the Merchant Marines from December 1942 to March 1943.
  • Has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: for radio at 6651 Hollywood Blvd. and for recording at 6508 Hollywood Blvd.
  • Adopted a son, Phil Harris Jr. with first wife Marcia Ralston. Had two daughters with second wife, Alice Faye: Alice Harris, born May 19, 1942, and Phyllis Harris, born April 22,1944.
  • During his lifetime the Phil Harris Golf Classic was held at Date Palm County Club in Cathedral City (near Palm Springs), CA.
  • His signature song was "That's What I Like About the South."
  • Cousin of Mildred Harris, making Phil cousin-in-law to Charles Chaplin while Mildred and Charlie were married (1918-1921).
  • His orchestra's theme song was "Rose Room".
  • His first wife, Marcia Ralston, was always called Mascotte.
  • When Phil Harris and his Orchestra played at the Cocoanut Grove at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles in the early 1930s they were promoted with the slogan "Follow the Trail of the Elite".
