Disney's eclectic lineup of female characters has undergone many changes over the years. Their earlier female protagonists, most often princesses, emanated more traditional notions of feminity through their manners, attire, and interests. More recently, Disney has been criticized for creating negative role models for girls to look up to, as many of these characters, even with their admirable qualities, are often saved or guided by the influence of a man. Disney heroines of today are known for their quirky personalities, sometimes irrational behavior, and strong will and inclination to do what's right.
