Max has released the official trailer for its new original biographical series, Chespirito: Not Really on Purpose. Inspired by the life and legacy of Roberto Gómez Bolaños, the eight-episode series will debut its first episode on June 5 on Max, with weekly episodic premieres.

The North Road Company, a media venture launched in 2022 by mogul Peter Chernin, has made its first acquisition in Latin America with Perro Azul, a major Mexican production company.

Perro Azul has produced Netflix’s most watched show ever produced in Mexico and Latin America, “Who Killed Sara? (¿Quién mató a Sara?).” The companies said the acquisition will allow Perro Azul to “scale their storytelling vision,” while allowing it to use “North Road’s strategic resources and expertise to bring even more Latin American stories to global audiences.”

As part of the deal, Perro Azul’s founding partners, Alexis Fridman and Juan Uruchurtu, will remain in their leadership roles, alongside the company’s Executive Producers Diego Rabasa and Julián de Tavira. Fridman and Uruchurtu will report to Jan Frouman, President of North Road International.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview with Variety, Fernando Medin, president and managing director of Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd) Latin America and U.S. Hispanic, drilled down on the company’s programming and growth strategy for the region where it launches its rebranded streaming platform, Max, on Feb. 27. Mexican production companies Grupo Chespirito and Thr3 Media Group have come to terms on a deal to co-produce multi-media content and create the Chespirito Media Universe based on the characters and world of Mexico and Latin America’s most iconic TV creator, director, producer and actor, Chespirito.

Thr3 Media Group was launched in January 2018 by Grupo Telefilms executives Tomás Darcyl, Ricardo Costianovsky and former Televisa vice-president Bruce Boren to create high-commercial value content for Spanish-speaking markets in film, TV, VOD and other digital platforms.

Chespirito, real name Roberto Gómez Bolaños, created, wrote, produced and starred in iconic series “El Chavo del Ocho” from 1971-1980. He first gained recognition in the ‘60s for his performances in the era-defining series “Los Supergenios de la Mesa Cuadrada,” and went on to find further success in films and series such as “El Chapulín Colorado,” “La Chicharra, Chespirito,” and “El Chanfle.”

The wacky world of the late, legendary Mexican TV comedian Chespirito is set for a comeback, thanks to a new deal, announced Monday between Hispanic media company THR3 Media Group and Grupo Chespirito, the company set up by Chespirito — aka Roberto Gómez Bolaños — and his son Roberto Gómez Fernández, tasked with preserving Chespirito’s legacy and bringing his work to new generations.

Beloved Latin American TV character “El Chavo” is coming to the U.S. and he’s bringing his friends.

Toymaker Jakks Pacific recently announced it would be launching a line of “El Chavo” toys that will be available in the U.S. in August. The line of dolls will include an 18-inch talking 'Chavo' doll along with plush dolls of his friends 'Quico' and 'Popis'.

“It is clear to us that 'El Chavo' resonates with Latinos as a reminder of their roots and has transcended generations as a reflection of their cultural heritage. We look forward to bringing 'El Chavo' toys to millions of kids across the U.S.” said Stephen Berman, President and CEO of Jakks Pacific, Inc.

Created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños, the television family show “El Chavo del Ocho” debuted in 1973 and aired new episodes until 1980. Since then it has been repurposed and has aired reruns in over 90 countries.

The star of the Mexican comedy shows “El Chavo del Ocho” and “El Chapulín Colorado” will get a museum celebrating his life and work in June 2013, reports Notimex -- complete with one of the barrels El Chavo once called home.

The monument to the work of Chespirito, the stage name of comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños, will be designed as a replica of the Chavo del Ocho’s neighborhood. Visitors will be able to see the shows’ original costumes, view the scripts, and walk through the houses of characters like Don Ramón, Quico and Doña Florinda.

The Chespirito museum will be located in Mexico City, though organizers still haven’t picked an official site. The public will have free access to the museum.

“The project began as something small and, thanks to the public support, kept growing,” Chespirito Group director Luis Jorge Arnau Ávila told Notimex.
