While responding to fans on @Threads, Superman director and DC Studios co-chair James Gunn was asked about the possible return of Princess Ilana Rostovic of Pokolistan.
In the action-packed season finale of Creature Commandos, "A Very Funny Monster," Princess Ilana Rostovic is killed by none other than the Bride. The Creature Commandos originally set out to assassinate Ilan based on a vision from Circe that she would kick off World War III. But as things unfolded, Amanda Waller ultimately called off the hit.
Even with the mission canceled, a deadly fight broke out. Ilana ended up killing Nina Mazursky during Nina's attempt to assassinate her, though Ilana acted in self-defense. Heartbroken over Nina's death, and now having proof that Ilana was actually planning to start World War III (she'd even tricked Waller using Clayface!), the Bride took matters into her own hands and shot Ilana in the head.

The release of Superman is just around the corner and director James Gunn and Warner Bros. are beginning to ratchet up the film's marketing campaign.
Gunn has revealed a new behind-the-scenes look at Guy Gardner, Mister Terrfiic, Hawkgirl and Metamorpho. Though it appears that Rex Maxon starts out as a prisoner of Lex Luthor in Superman, what are the odds that he joins the Justice Gang by the end of the film?

Ahead of Superman, audiences are revisiting, or perhaps watching for the first time, David Corenswet's previous big screen outing, 2024's Twisters. The disaster movie is currently climbing the charts on Prime Video.
Per FlixPatrol, Twisters is currently No. 5 on Prime Video's U.S. Top 10 Movies list, sitting just below The Accountant 2, The Accountant, Oblivion, and The Beekeeper, all of whom are making their debut on the list. Twisters has jumped up three spots from yesterday, where it was at No. 8. Coincidentally, No. 8 is where Twisters is currently sitting on Prime Video's Top 10 Overall list for the day, coming in under the series Clarkson's Farm, Motorheads, and The Better Sister and the aforementioned four movies.

Photo Credit: Warner Bros Back in January 2023, DC Studios co-head James Gunn sent waves through the fandom with the announcement of a massive Phase 1 slate of movies and shows for the revitalized DC universe, cleverly titled Gods and Monsters. One notable absence from that initial lineup? The Justice League. But fear not, DC faithful! In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly for their upcoming Superman cover story, Gunn himself addressed the potential for a larger superhero team-up, confirming that the idea is definitely on his radar. “Of course, of course,” Gunn told EW. “But there is no Justice League in this world…not yet.” When playfully pressed if these Justice League plans tie into his overarching vision for “Gods and Monsters,” Gunn simply teased, “Sure.” While a full-fledged Justice League might not be immediate, the world of Gunn’s Superman is far from devoid of heroes. We’ll meet the fascinating Justice Gang,...

It's hard to imagine creating a new superhero universe for DC Comics and not including any of the many, many, many, many actors who've already played in the Marvel sandbox. But that's exactly what James Gunn is trying to do. After all, neither David Corenswet nor Rachel Brosnahanhad been in a superhero movie until the upcoming Superman. That doesn't mean, of course, that there won't be exceptions to that rule, with people like Nicholas Hoult (who played Beast in several X-Men movies), his brother Sean Gunn (whom he casts in everything), or — if he has his way — his leading lady from Guardians of the Galaxy, Zoe Saldaña.
In a new interview with Screenrant's Ash Crossan, Saldaña was asked by the host about the teasing tidbit Gunn made in a comment on Threads (a.k.a. Instagram's Twitter clone) about having a specific role in mind for the actress.

Since it was confirmed that Superman would introduce many other DC heroes apart from the titular character, many fans have wondered if the Dcu already has its own version of the Justice League. Unlike the MCU, the Dcu is a universe that audiences are entering with metahumans and superpowered individuals having been part of the world for some time, as hinted at in Creature Commandos. This begged the question of whether the Justice League already exists in some form, and instead of being a founding member, Superman would be brought into the team.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming Superman film, James Gunn was asked if he was thinking about a larger shared DC team-up, to which he replied, "Of course, of course. Freedom will ring for Peacemaker at the biggest fandom convention of the year.
An excerpt from The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision newsletter revealed that Warner Bros. will devote a lot of promotion to Peacemaker at San Diego Comic-Con ahead of season 2's August release. "DC Studios is going all-in on Peacemaker, the hit John Cena The Suicide Squad spinoff created by DC co-chief James Gunn," the report noted. "Peacemaker will have a big footprint at the convention, a move that signals DC and Max’s confidence in Season 2, which bows Aug. 21. And, while DC had no comment, there could be a Hall H panel for the show."
By contrast, movies won't be as heavily promoted due to Superman's July release and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow being under a year away, suggesting, "DC Studios is biding its time before making any reveals."

Comic book movies remain a must-see aspect of the Hollywood landscape, even in 2025. The genre of films dominated the 2010s and, with plenty more to come in the years ahead, they are continuing to make their presence felt on the silver screen throughout the 2020s.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been evolving its release strategy over the past few years as it figured out how to expand its Multiverse Saga without oversaturating the market at the same time, ensuring that it can continue moving forward to develop content for many years to come. Sony Marvel movies have also been supplementing the genre with sporadic releases, however limited financial success may prevent Sony from continuing with their separate Marvel universe - especially after the failure of Kraven the Hunter in 2024. A brand new episode of the DC Studios Showcase Official Podcast has just dropped, featuring two exciting guests from the upcoming Superman film: Edi Gathegi, who plays Mister Terrific, and María Gabriela de Faría, cast as The Engineer, an associate of Lex Luthor.
During his appearance, Edi Gathegi clarified a key detail about Mister Terrific's iconic "T-mask," confirming that it's not paint, but rather made of nanotechnology. This aligns with the comic book portrayal, where Mister Terrific's entire costume often forms from millions of nanotech bots released from his T-spheres.
Gathegi also shared insights into how he developed his portrayal of Michael Holt (Mister Terrific). He initially approached the role with a clear idea formed during his screen test. However, once filming began, the collaborative process led to a more nuanced and intricate performance. "I didn't know what was going to happen until we did it," Gathegi revealed. "I had...

Here’s The Role James Gunn’s Brother Is Playing In Superman!(Photo Credit –Instagram)
The DC Universe is undergoing a massive reset under the creative leadership of James Gunn, with Superman set to launch what’s being called “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.” Naturally, expectations are sky-high. Gunn, known for injecting depth and irreverence into comic book storytelling, is bringing the same tone-shaping energy he delivered with Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad.
Casting has been headline-grabbing with David Corenswet donning the cape and Rachel Brosnahan stepping into the shoes of Lois Lane. However, some fans have now been looking beyond the marquee names. That’s because Gunn has a track record of assembling a familiar troupe of collaborators across his filmography.

Since the announcement that James Gunn was not only taking over the DC Universe but also directing a Superman film, fans have speculated where his usual friends who star in each of his films will fit in. His brother, Sean Gunn, is playing businessman Maxwell Lord. Nathan Fillion is playing Guy Gardner/Green Lantern. Alan Tudyk and Michael Rooker voice robots in Superman's Fortress of Solitude. There is one member of Gunn's circle, however, with substantial DC ties who had as-of-yet joined the franchise--that audiences knew of.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a DC Comics fan who doesn't admit that Hawkman and Hawkgirl's history is one of the most notoriously tangled sagas in all of comics. Their story stretches back to ancient Egypt, where a jealous priest's Nth metal dagger cursed them to an endless cycle of death and rebirth.
Thanks to numerous comic reboots and retcons, the mantle of Hawkgirl has been worn by three prominent figures:
Shiera Sanders Hall: The original Golden Age Hawkgirl. Shayera Hol (née Thal): A Thanagarian police officer from the Silver Age. Kendra Saunders: Often depicted as a direct reincarnation of Shiera.
During her appearance on the DC Studios Showcase Official Podcast, Isabela Merced, cast as Hawkgirl in Superman, offered surprising details about her character. When pressed on whether her Hawkgirl would be alien or reincarnated, Merced revealed a fascinating twist.
"Kendra is reincarnated from an alien. So, she has all those memories,...

The previous year proved to be a whirlwind for Isabella Merced, who skillfully balanced two major projects during the summer months.
She took on the role of Kendra Saunders, also known as Hawkgirl, in James Gunn's highly anticipated Superman film, while simultaneously portraying Dina in HBO's acclaimed adaptation of the video game The Last of Us.
Reflecting on this demanding period, Merced likened her experience to "dating two people at once," explaining the constant "juggling" of schedules and even quipping about ensuring she was texting the correct assistant director. This intense workload involved a flurry of travel, with Merced recalling hitting "like eight flights a month."
Despite the challenges, the prospect of her character inspiring Halloween costumes brought a wave of excitement, as Merced exclaimed, "I cannot wait that's what I'm really excited for that and the action figures."
You can check out more from Merced's appearance on The Tonight Show below.

James Gunn’s Supermantrailer came and got fans excited with a tease of lots of heroes and secret villains inhibiting David Corenswet-led feature. Fans got a good look at Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), chemistry between Clark and Lois (Rachel Brosnahan) Krypto among other things. With the new trailer, eagle eyed fans noticed many new things and started theorizing about the presence of various hidden characters.
So, when one fan theorized that the new trailer hides, Bizarro, the character that was created as a mirror image to Superman and has often been portrayed as an antagonist to Superman, while on occasion taking on an antihero role, Gunn was quick to correct the fan, “Haha it's Superman. It's real photography of David,” he remarked on social media. Gunn not only dismissed a theory gaining traction among fans but he also got their attention towards the fact that the feature have been mostly shot practically.

One thing that has become clear several times in comic book movies, is that just because a character has died in a previous film, it doesn't mean they are gone for good. Although James Gunn's new Dcu is a fresh start for the DC franchise, there are some characters and actors that are set to crossover from the old Dceu into the new universe that will kick off its live-action story in this summer's Superman. Someone hoping to join that select group is Suicide Squad star Jai Courtney, who played Captain Boomerang in both David Ayer's movie about the anti-hero group and Gunn's own The Suicide Squad.
However, Captain Boomerang perished along with a wave of other obscure DC characters in the opening sequence of Gunn's movie, suggesting that his time in the franchise is over. Speaking recently to Variety while promoting his new movie Dangerous Animals at Cannes,...

For many comic book fans, Jai Courtney's Boomerang was the best part of 2016's Suicide Squad. Unfortunately, the character met his demise in the opening batlle of 2021's The Suicide Squad.
However, recent footage from Peacemaker season 2 and Superman have revealed that the Dcu seems keen on exploring the concept of pocket dimensions.

After teasers, sneak peak scenes, and even product placement commercials, fans are finally getting a look at the first full trailer for James Gunn’s Superman. With the cinematic launch of the new DC Universe flying into theaters on July 11th, you can watch the new preview below.
Superman forgoes the typical origin story, instead establishing a world in which superheroes are already an accepted part of society. In fact, it seems Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane is well aware that David Corenswet’s Clark Kent is really Superman in disguise. The trailer opens with her interviewing the Man of Steel about stopping a war — potentially in violation of international law.
While Supes sticks to his belief that he was doing good on behalf of mankind, the US government isn’t so sure. Rick Flag Sr. is tasked with bringing in Big Blue, with the help of a mysterious superhuman (Ultraman?...

James Gunn’s Dcu is all set to expand with season 2 of Peacemaker. The John Cena starrer will reportedly take off from the events of Superman, and will have hints of season one and Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The makers recently released a trailer, which revealed the Justice Gang, featuring Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Maxwell Lord.
While all of the above characters are also slated to appear in Superman this July, the question remains if John Cena will make his big-screen Dcu debut too. The character’s interview for the Justice Gang implies that the group has already tried to recruit David Corenswet’s Superman, and there might be a little cameo for Cena.

The galaxy's best super dog gets a well-deserved treat in a new Superman-themed commercial.
Splicing together clips from James Gunn's Superman movie with a voiceover promoting Milk-Bone, the ad attempts to declare "Milk-Bone is there for every good boy," only to be regularly interrupted by Krypton the Super Dog behaving adorably. It also features original clips of Mister Terrific getting Krypto to do tricks in exchange for bones, as well as Krypto lying on Superman's lap while he waits for the Man of Steel to recover.
Superman's faithful caped canine made his Dcu debut in the movie's original trailer, running toward a heavily injured Superman before leading him away to safety by the cape. Peacemaker Season 2's trailer revealed the first official look at an important Dcu character played by an MCU actor. James Gunn's DC reboot is already confirmed to include 14 Marvel actors, most of whom have worked with Gunn in his past MCU movies. Part of the list consists of Pom Klementieff, Nathan Fillion, Frank Grillo, Jennifer Holland, David Harbour, and James Gunn's brother, Sean Gunn.
Sean Gunn already played dual roles in Creature Commandos, with him bringing Weasel and G.I. Robot to life in the Dcu-set animated series. Aside from his animated debut, Gunn is set to make an impact as an iconic DC villain in the Dcu as Maxwell Lord in Superman: Legacy.

Christopher Smith and the 11th Street Kids are back! Three years after John Cena's muscle-bound, gun-toting, ultra-violent super-dummy emerged from being shot and buried under a collapsing building in The Suicide Squad to head up a new morally dubious black ops unit in Peacemaker Season 1, James Gunn's r-rated show is readying its return to our screens. It's been a long wait, but Peacemaker Season 2 is finally just around the corner. The first season of the Max original series premiered in 2022, and series writer and creator James Gunn has had a lot on his plate since then. The 11th Street Kids are back, baby, and it feels so good. The trailer for season 2 of James Gunn's Max series "Peacemaker" is finally here, and it's great to see the gang back in action after they managed to stop both extraterrestrial body snatchers and a white supremacist supervillain at the end of "Peacemaker" season 1. John Cena's Christopher Smith, A.K.A. the titular Peacemaker, still had plenty to figure out about the world when last we saw him, though he had learned that friendship and his found family could help him become a better man. Now, in season 2, it looks like he's going to have to deal with an entirely different kind of daddy issues when he's confronted by Rick Flag, Sr. (Frank Grillo), the father of Peacemaker's hero Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), who Chris killed during the events of "The Suicide Squad" before his big change of heart.

There have been hints that James Gunn's Superman will put its own spin on real-life events, with many comparing whatever's happening in the fictional nation of Boravia to conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
It's hardly a surprise, as many of Superman's comics have balanced Truth, Justice, and the American Way with politics; heck, Lex Luthor even became President of the United States for a time.
A multitude of Superman plot leaks have been doing the rounds in recent weeks. The latest pertains to Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord, and comes after the Guardians of the Galaxy star confirmed he'll appear in the movie this July.
According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, "Max Lord (Sean Gunn) only appears in one scene in Superman. He's on [TV], saying 'The one thing both the left and right can agree on is that Lex Luthor sucks.'"
Is that a joke anyone is likely to be offended by?...

While the majority of Dceu actors aren't part of DC Studios' Dcu plans, The Suicide Squad star Sean Gunn has already landed multiple roles in the reboot being mapped out by his brother, James Gunn.
The Guardians of the Galaxy standout stole the show last year in Creature Commandos as G.I. Robot and reprised his previous role, Weasel, as well. While he's bound to lend his voice to both characters in live-action somewhere down the line, Gunn's main on-camera role will be as the villainous Maxwell Lord.
The character is expected to be less of a full-blown baddie and more of an antagonist in the Dcu, bringing the Wonder Woman 1984 character (where he was played by Pedro Pascal) more in line with his comic book counterpart.

The new Superman movie will officially mark the debut of Maxwell Lord in the DC Universe. Since the Dcu franchise will be serving as a soft reboot for DC Studios, there are numerous characters getting recast for James Gunn's new superhero franchise. While multiple iconic heroes have new actors portraying them in the Dcu, Gunn's Superman movie will also be reimagining several popular villains, including Pedro Pascal's Maxwell Lord from Wonder Woman 1984.
Sean Gunn was recently at Northern Fancon (courtesy of @DCFilmNews) and a fan asked him about entering the Dcu franchise as the next live-action version of Maxwell Lord, as well as how he prepared for that character, who was previously played by Pascal. While he couldn't give away spoilers, Gunn finally confirmed that Maxwell Lord is in Superman, as he shared the following about the conversations he has had with his brother about adapting this...

James Gunn's Superman figures to be one of the biggest movies of the year and Hawkgirl actress Isabela Merced and Engineer actress Maria Gabriela de Faria are reflecting on their experiences at different points of the filming process.
For De Faria who portrays one of DC Comics' most powerful characters, the Engineer, she reflected on the physical nature of her role. It sounds like she'll have some intense fight scenes, although we haven't seen much of the character in any of the previously released footage.
Speaking to Remezcla, de Faria stated, "This experience was super challenging physically, but it was also very challenging emotionally. My character as The Engineer is a very physical character."
"And not only because of the image that the character has in the comic. But because of all the things I had to do on set. here is a lot of fighting and flying there.

Green Day have a new movie in the works, but Billie Joe Armstrong still has his eyes on another film project — an adaptation of the American Idiot musical — that was planned but never made.
Speaking to Variety ahead of the band’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony today, Armstrong was asked about the status of the American Idiot film, based on the one-time Broadway musical. Back in 2016, HBO revealed plans to adapt the musical with Armstrong in the role of St. Jimmy, but nearly a decade later, the film remains unmade.
