Your first Bengali film in a long time is a work of joy and beauty forever?

You really liked Aamar Boss so much? I am so glad. I know you wouldn’t lie to me. You know when the co-directors (Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy) offered me the film, I wasn’t sure. My last Bengali film is yet to be released. I don’t know what happened to it. But then I saw Shiboprasad and Nandita’s film.

You mean their blockbuster Raktabeej?

No, no, not that one. The earlier film Hami about a child’s upbringing. I was immediately excited about working with Shiboprasad and Nandini.

Their past work apart, they have conceived a role for you in Aamar Boss which not many actresses your age are given?

I agree.

The directorial duo Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy double-handedly rescued Bengali cinema from boxoffice blues with the blockbuster true-life crime thriller Bohurupi in 2024.

Wow, so many years have passed!!! I was a 15-year-old kid who had just taken the 10th standard exam. I knew nothing about acting, screen, or stars at that time, having seen only probably 4 to 5 films in my life.

Which films had you seen before?

Dosti many times at all Children’s Day celebrations in school), Guddi, Mera Naam Joker, and I think maybe a few more. That’s it. I was super-shy and awkward and had no idea What Huge stars I was working with. This was the zamana before the internet and Instagram.

Rohan Mehra, who is all set to embark upon a new journey by making an acting debut with Baazaar, has been working in the film industry for the last two years. Having assisted eminent film makers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Rohan also tried his hand at photography, composed music and did some ghost writing, before he got a photo shoot done and posted pictures on Instagram, when he caught the eye of Kal Ho Naa Ho’s director Nikkhil Advani who surprised Mehra with a phone call. Filmmaker Anil Sharma best remembered for films like Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, The Hero: Love Story of Spy and the more recent release Singh Sahab the Great that hit screens in 2013 will soon be returning to direction with a film titled Genius. Though the writer - director is gung-ho about the project, we hear that apart from him returning to filmmaking there are a couple of added reasons for him to celebrate. In fact Sharma will be launching his son Utkarsh as the lead protagonist in the film Genius.

While Sharma will be announcing the film tomorrow, July 14, he confirmed the news to us saying, "July 14 for me is a very special day, for starters my father launched me on the same day back in 1980 with the film Shradhanjali that starred Raakhee, so in turn I think this is the best day that I should launch my son in films.

When Rohit Shetty announced the remake of the 1989 cult film Ram Lakhan, to be produced by Dharma Productions, what followed was a series of speculations about the casting. With the names of several A-listers being tossed around, we believe that the makers may have found their perfect Ram and his brother Lakhan for the remake.

From what we hear, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are the current contenders for the role and the two will soon be signed for the same. In the original Subhash Ghai blockbuster, Ram, the sincere and honest cop was played by Jackie Shroff and the enthusiastic grey-shaded role of Lakhan was played by Anil Kapoor. In the upcoming remake it is being that Shahid Kapoor will play the elder brother Ram whilst Ranveer will be seen as the younger Lakhan. An official announcement on the same is being awaited.

When asked about the said scene, Mastizaade's director Milap Zaveri said, "Yes, there is such a scene in the film. But, it's an extremely short scene.

Irrfan Khan who shot to fame after the undoubted international success of Slumdog Millionaire, is to star in Meghna Gulzar’s next film as a Police Officer.

The film will be centered around the real-life high profile case of the 2008 murder of a 13 year old girl, Aarushi Talwar and a 45 year old domestic helper who were found murdered in the Talwar’s house in Noida, India.

Meghna Gulzar is the daughter of famous lyricist Gulzar and actress Rakhee, and her last venture Just Married, failed to make a big impression on audiences, so only time will tell if this film makes the cut.

Ace filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh, who is known for his unique films, suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away on Thursday morning at 7.30am in Kolkata at the age of 49. He was reportedly suffering from pancreatitis.

Rituparno Ghosh was first acknowledged in the 90’s when he made films in Bengali with strong and sensitive subjects. His recent endeavours were with some Bollywood biggies like Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Ghosh won many national awards and his film Chokher Bali starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Raima Sen was nominated for Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival in 2003.

Rituparno Ghosh was a bold director and did not refrain from touching the otherwise sensitively discussed topic of homosexuality. He played the role of a homosexual filmmaker in Kaushik Ganguly’s ‘‘Arekti Premer Galpo’ and Sanjoy Nag’s ‘Memories in March’. He was one person who never attempted to hide his sexual preferences.
