- After the bombing of Antwerp in the first World War, she came to the Netherlands with her husband Dom de Gruyter, where she continued her career at Willem Royaards Theater.
- Julia de Gruyter made her debut as an actress after training at the Antwerp Conservatoire as Mary in Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night".
- She played frequently on stage until 1935, and she also had her own company (Ensemble Julia de Gruyter, 1933/35). After that time she occupied herself almost exclusively with reciting Flemish literature; later also on television.
- She celebrated her 25th anniversary on stage with a program of lectures on October 24, 1939 in the Amsterdam Stadsschouwburg. On that occasion she was appointed Belgian Knight in the Order of Leopold.
- She was married to Flemish actor Dom de Gruyter (1882-1933).
