In July 2003, he married Torrie Wilson, another WWE and former-WCW worker, who also appeared in Playboy.

Kidman had a successful 2002, winning the Cruiserweight Title on two occasions, before losing it to Matt Hardy (Version 1.0) at No Way Out 2003.

Billy Kidman teamed with Mike Maraldo for much of his early career, forming the "Shooting Stars".

On the final WCW Nitro, Kidman & Rey Mysterio won the Cruiserweight Tag Team titles from Kid Romeo & Elix Skipper. The WWF purchased WCW and the titles were then forgotten.

In November 2013, Gruner appeared on WWE's European tour as Paul Heyman's doctor, under the name of "Dr. Weisenburg.".

Following his departure from WWE, Gruner toured the United Kingdom. During the tour, he competed for the Frontier Wrestling Alliance in a three-way match with Jody Fleisch and Jonny Storm also wrestled British wrestling legend Robbie Brookside in a losing effort to determine the inaugural Real Quality Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.
