Whether in the desert of Abu Dhabi or on the road to happiness in China, Esther Gronenborn has gained extensive filming experience both domestically and internationally during her professional career. Whether working as a music video director, in advertising, or in feature films, her diverse works derive their power from authenticity and unique visuality. A graduate of the Munich Film Academy, she has been working as a freelance author and director since 1997. During her studies, she spent several semesters abroad in Hong Kong, China, England, and Romania.

She completed her studies in 1997 and worked for two years with DORO Berlin as a music video and web director. Here, she gained significant attention with her outstanding works such as "Musik im Kopf" and "Meine kleine Schwester." In 2001, her feature film debut "alaska.de" was released in cinemas and won her the Lola for Best Director, along with many national and international awards. The film also won two other coveted trophies: the Lola for Best Editing and the Bavarian Film Award. Throughout her varied career, she has made numerous successful and award-winning films such as "Stadt als Beute" and "Ich werde nicht schweigen." Most recently, her TV film "The White Silence" about the hospital murderer Niels Högel (RTL+), was nominated for the German Television Award 2022 and received a DAFfne for Best Editing.

In addition to her work as a director, Esther Gronenborn is actively committed to equality and diversity in the film industry as a founding member and board member of Pro Quote Regie and Pro Quote Film. She is a member of the German and European Film Academy. With her passion for visual art, Esther Gronenborn has also been working in the field of digital photographic art for several years. Her works are characterized by creative compositions and a profound narrative power that reflect her many years of experience in filmmaking. Esther Gronenborn lives with her family near Berlin.
