This article contains spoilers for "Superman."
Some people might fear that with a main character as massive and mainstream as Superman, James Gunn would lose some of the distinctive directorial flair that's made him such a popular director in the horror and comic book movie spaces. But while Gunn's "Superman" is indeed different in some ways from his past work, it's still a Gunn flick through and through.
A look at the "Superman" trailer footage and the cast list alone should give you a decent amount of confidence on that front. While lead stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult aren't part of Gunn's typical recurring roster of actors, the supporting cast is filled with familiar faces. Nathan Fillion, who's been collaborating with the writer/director since "Slither" in 2006, plays Green Lantern Guy Gardner. Other Gunn usuals featured in "Superman" include his brother Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord...

Though Superman is a relatively self-contained movie, writer/director James Gunn does include quite a few cameos that could set up future projects in the Dcu.
Most of these characters were either confirmed or rumored to appear in the buildup to the film's release, but there was one surprise that Gunn and co. managed to keep under wraps.
Bradley Cooper as Jor-El and Angela Sarafyan as Lara Lor-Van
The cameos that prove to be most pertinent to this movie's plot are Jor-El (Bradley Cooper) and Lara Lor-Von (Angela Sarafyan), who appear via a holographic message that plays when Krypto brings Supes to the Fortress of Solitude following his defeat at the hands of the Hammer of Boravia.
We learn that the second part of the message was damaged when the infant Kal crashed to Earth, but Lex Luthor and The Engineer manage to decipher the details later on, using the...

A new 30-second teaser for Peacemaker season 2 is playing in select theaters, and it's now found its way online. While the first trailer saw Christopher Smith come face-to-face with his doppelgänger, this sneak peek confirms the confrontation is playing out in another reality.
Needless to say, this has raised questions about whether James Gunn intends to bring the Dceu's Peacemaker into the Dcu rather than simply introducing a new Dcu version with a similar history.
Peacemaker season 2's "canon" status has been a hot topic of debate among fans, especially as its characters played such a prominent role in the Dceu. Gunn addressed that last year by saying, "In Creature Commandos, you'll hear them talk about things that happened in [The] Suicide Squad or Peacemaker. Well then, those things automatically become canon."
"The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League," the Superman director added.

Though Superman stands front and center as the DC Universe kicks off its anticipated film slate, the actor playing the Man of Steel isn't flying above his counterparts on the salary front. A new report confirms David Corenswet isn't the highest earner in the reboot's cast despite being its lead actor.
According to Puck News, Corenswet took home $750,000 for his work as the Last Son of Krypton in James Gunn's Superman remake, the same amount as co-star and Lois Lane actor, Rachel Brosnahan. Meanwhile, Nicholas Hoult, who plays Superman's archenemy Lex Luthor, made nearly two-and-a-half times more than Corenswet, securing a $2 million payday for his efforts. The report notes that all three actors are in line for bonuses should Superman perform well at the box office.

A new era for DC is now fully underway, as Gunn's Superman movie has not only brought the Man of Steel back to the big screen, but also kicked off the larger Dcu.

The most-awaited Superman movie is here. James Gunn has put a unique spin on DC’s Man of Steel, and fans have already loved what they got to see in the promotional material. Gunn brings optimism and hope back to the character while fleshing out interesting characters based on the comics and the original Superman movie of 1978.
During a press conference, the DC CEO shared that the hero in his movie represented “the basic kindness of human beings” (via ScreenRant). He has brought an interesting mix of characters to his first film, played by an ensemble cast. Gunn’s cast consists mostly of up-and-coming actors in Hollywood.

Ryan Reynolds rose to fame following his role in 2002's National Lampoon's Van Wilder, a comedy that paved the way for many similar roles. However, the actor made his mark in the film industry once he tackled the role of Deadpool, which became an extremely successful franchise, critically and commercially.
Outside of Deadpool, Reynolds starred in only one other live-action franchise: The Hitman's Bodyguard. Although the actor voiced Guy in several films from The Croods animated franchise, and had many films that could've gotten a sequel, Reynolds only reprised a live-action role in 2021 with Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard. The two films weren't massively successful and received negative reviews from the critics, but Tudum reveals that the franchise has just found a new life on streaming.

The movie’s stars, including David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, walked the red carpet together, Corenswet wearing an understated navy pinstripe suit and Brosnahan in a glittery, floor-length purple dress with midriff cut outs and an open back.
On the red carpet, the movie’s writer and director James Gunn told Deadline his goal of returning to “the color and the joy” of DC’s original superhero, saying, “The comic books I loved growing up, I wanted to imbue this film with that feeling.”
He further cited his desire to deliver a less serious rendition of the story, saying, “It’s lighter. But there’s a lot of heavy stuff in the movie as well…but the character himself is lighter.”

The following contains spoilers from Superman.
The DC Universe is officially kicking on Jul. 11, with Superman. Written and directed by James Gunn, the DC Studios co-ceo alongside Peter Safran, the superhero film is also filled with other superheroes who will be a part of the upcoming Dcu.
Aside from the titular hero, Superman's ensemble cast includes Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White. However, the upcoming superhero film also provides a first look at Dcu's next major hero: Supergirl. In a Reddit post, Milly Alcock's Supergirl gives the best look at her superhero suit ahead of her own film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

With the Dcu's highly anticipated feature film debut, Superman right around the corner, everyone and their mother are talking about James Gunn's impressive revamp. There are plenty of upcoming Dcu projects, like Supergirl and The Brave and the Bold, but perhaps even more exciting is the upcoming second season of Peacemaker. The goofy and perfectly sound-tracked HBO show blew audiences away when the first season debuted in 2022. With so much riding on the show's perception, starring actor John Cena, who played the infamous Peacemaker, and the cast were confused, to say the least, when Gunn told them they'd be doing an expressionless dance for the opening credits. Cena recently recapped how the weird dance that propelled the show's humor came to be.

Reviews for Superman are finally out now, and fans have already begun comparisons to superhero films from various eras. James Gunn’s debut Dcu film has soared out of the gate with a strong “certified fresh” 87% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but it still falls short of the MCU in one major way. This 87% — which is subject to change, but still comes from 105 reviews at the time of writing — falls below the 94% earned by the original Iron Man on Rotten Tomatoes. Gunn, Peter Safran, and other Dcu studio heads are certainly hoping that Superman can launch a franchise with the same success that Iron Man did, and although it falls slightly short of the 2008 MCU film, this likely won’t hinder its ability to do exactly that.
There are also a few caveats to consider when comparing Superman’s score to the original Iron Man. The bar for superhero movies...

The wait is almost over: James Gunn's Superman is nearing its theatrical release. Ahead of the worldwide premiere on Jul.11, the superhero film's debut score is out.
Superman is the first film in Warner Bros.'s revamped superhero franchise, DC Universe, which is overseen by Gunn and Peter Safran. The first film in the franchise, led by David Corenswet, does not feature yet another origin story and introduces the audience straight into the story, where everyone knows about the Man of Steel and his alter-ego, Clark Kent. After years of anticipation, Superman soared with extremely positive reviews and debuted with a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it immediately received the Certified Fresh badge.
The initial reaction comes from 86 reviews and is likely to fluctuate as more reviews come in. However, the reaction to Superman is nothing less than stellar, especially since the entire future franchise rests on the film's reception.

Plot: A plot by Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) causes the people of Earth to question whether Superman (David Corenswet) is truly their protector, sending the hero into an existential crisis over his place on his adopted planet.
Review: I’ll give James Gunn this much: his take on Superman is unlike anything we’ve ever seen on film. It couldn’t be more different from the Snyderverse films, which attempted to reinvent the character for a more cynical age, or the lower-key Richard Donner films. In this version, Gunn has brought to life a sprawling canvas featuring armies of metahumans (some of whom we meet in the movie), pocket universes, and giant kaiju. It throws in everything but the kitchen sink. That turns out to be a mixed blessing.

Nathan Fillion has been playing John Nolan on The Rookie for almost 10 years now, but he’s also heavily involved in James Gunn’s Dcu. Fillion, who worked with Gunn on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, has been tapped for the role of Guy Gardner in the Dcu. He’ll make his first appearance in Superman this week before also starring in Peacemaker Season 2 and, later, Lanterns.
Fillion recently caught up with Deadline on the red carpet at an event for Superman, and he was asked what he could tease about the Dcu’s wider universe, instead of just one specific project. To no surprise, Fillion wasn’t able to completely spill the beans, but he did praise the work of James Gunn and also spoke on how the projects are all connected, which helps it feel like one big universe:
"It's a continuous universe from end to end.

Ahead of tomorrow night's Amazon Prime Early Access Screenings, Warner Bros. is finally ready to debut Superman, their long-awaited Dcu launching pad, to the world and have started a red carpet world premiere live stream - similar to the ones held over by their friends at Marvel Studios - where many of the cast and crew, including leading man David Corenswet, are expected to make appearances, alongside family and possibly surprise members of the extended Dcu.
If you haven't already, make sure to secure your tickets for either tomorrow night or this weekend. Alan Tudyk has taken on dozens of iconic voice roles over the years, but he’s recently been doing a lot of work for James Gunn in the Dcu. During the first season of Creature Commandos, which aired on HBO Max last year, Tudyk voiced Dr. Phosphorus, Surfer Son, Clayface, and Magnus. He can also be heard in Harley Quinn voicing Clayface, The Joker, Condiment King, Firefly, Perry White, Dr. Trap, and many more.
Dr. Phosphorus became a fan favorite throughout the first season of Creature Commandos for his hilarious one-liners, which are undoubtedly made even more funny thanks to Tudyk’s brilliant voice performance. Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently moderated a panel at FanExpo Denver for Tudyk, where he was asked how many of these jokes are directly from the script vs. improvised. Out of all movie genres, Westerns have a charm that attracts all kinds of viewers. There’s something about the dry, rugged, brutal world that keeps the viewers engaged and connected to the story. This charm has now helped Peter Dinklage’s The Thicket to dethrone Jason Statham’s Homefront on streaming charts. Per FlixPatrol, a day after the Tubi original’s debut on Amazon Prime, the movie has risen to the #8 spot, while Statham’s Homefront dropped to #10. With The Thicket debuting in the top 10, we can expect the movie to rise to a better spot on the charts in the coming days and weeks.
Directed by Elliott Lester, The Thicket follows an orphan who puts together a ragtag team of unlikely heroes to rescue his kidnapped sister from a brutal killer. Things take a deadly turn when, during the quest, the band comes across a deadly no-man's-land called The Thicket.

Rotten Tomatoes shared a new clip for James Gunn's long-awaited Superman reboot, in which the Man of Steel steps in to catch a giant monster's foot before it steps on a dog. But instead of running from the monster, the dog continues to bark, forcing Superman to use super-breath to push it out of harm's way before launching a counterattack.
The clip was one of several dropped ahead of the movie's July release, with one focusing on Clark Kent's relationship with Daily Planet co-workers Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen and the other seeing him react to Krypto the Super-Dog's antics in the Fortress of Solitude. Superman's relationship with Krypto has been frequently highlighted in Superman's marketing campaign, with a previous clip seeing him interrogate Lex Luthor over his dog's whereabouts.

A Tubi original Western movie has surpassed a Jason Statham action flick penned by Sylvester Stallone on the Prime Video streaming charts. The Thicket starring Peter Dinklage has muscled its way into the Top 10 -- and pushed Statham down the list.

12 Years Later, Jason Statham's Divisive 42% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller Remains a Global Streaming Hit
You know what never goes out of style? A bald guy with a British accent punching people in the face. Case in point: Homefront, the 2013 action-thriller starring Jason Statham, which just muscled its way back into the global conversation. According to Flix Patrol, Homefront is now the eighth most-streamed movie on Prime Video as of June 27 — beating out not only The Beekeeper (another Statham special) but even James Cameron’s Titanic. Let that sink in. Titanic sank twice.
The film's comeback is no fluke. Originally released in 2013 and directed by Gary Fleder from a script by none other than Sylvester Stallone, Homefront follows ex-DEA agent Phil Broker (Statham), a man just trying to live a quiet life in small-town Louisiana with his daughter. Unfortunately, he picks the wrong town, and soon finds himself tangling with local meth kingpin Gator Bodine (played with backwoods flair by James Franco). Toss in Winona Ryder,...

After years of updates from writer/director James Gunn, the premiere of Superman is finally upon us. The film will fly into theaters everywhere in less than two weeks on July 11, and its leading star just pulled back the curtain on how the Dcu will be different from its biggest rival, the MCU. Gunn has adapted a mindset that focuses on quality scripts above all — it’s this mentality that led to Colin Farrell’s Sgt. Rock movie being canceled by the studio. Gunn has worked extensively with the MCU on the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, so he knows what success inside a larger franchise looks like. Clark Kent actor David Corenswet spoke with the press at a set visit last year, attended by Collider's Ross Bonaime. When asked how much he knows about the future of Gunn’s DC Universe, Corenswet said:

With Sicario, Taylor Sheridan kicked off a literal storytelling empire. With Yellowstone, he redefined the modern Western. Then he kept going from the chaos of Mayor of Kingstown to the espionage edge of Special Ops: Lioness. Sheridan’s shows just hit different – be it cowboys or covert ops, his signature’s all over it, with good dialogue, moral gray zones, and damn good drama.

In January 2023, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn pulled the tarp off of the first incarnation of the Dcu slate. The lineup included a balanced spread of five feature films and five television series. Many of these projects were new IPs, but a few were based on familiar characters, Amanda Waller being one of them. Waller, starring powerhouse actress Viola Davis, was developed as a solo project for the ruthless Argus director. The series was originally set for release in late 2024, but production got detoured by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Since its delay, there haven't been any Waller updates, leading some fans to fear that it had been canceled or forgotten about.
James Gunn put those anxieties to rest with a recent Threads post, in response to another user's query regarding whether Waller was still planned. Gunn's reply was brief yet promising: "Yes." The studio head didn't divulge any additional tidbits...

A brand-new teaser for Superman just dropped, and it’s already creating a buzz. The clip, which premiered during a segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, gave fans a quick but intense look at how things are shaping up between the Man of Steel and Lex Luthor.
In the scene, Superman storms into Luthor’s office, clearly furious. He causes quite a mess, smashing through the doors and knocking things over. What stands out most, though, is what he demands: a dog. While the teaser doesn’t say much, he’s likely talking about Krypto, Superman’s pet dog, who’s appeared in the film’s earlier promos.
Nicholas Hoult plays Luthor, and his response in the scene is calm and dismissive. He sips coffee and pretends he doesn’t know what Superman is talking about. That short exchange already hints at the kind of tension and mind games we can expect between the two.

The new Superman teaser is finally here, and fans are freaking out, because it shows Superman getting seriously angry at Lex Luthor. In a short teaser that aired during a Jimmy Kimmel Live! segment, we see David Corenswet’s Superman smashing into Luthor’s office, breaking doors and furniture, and demanding something unexpected: the dog.
That’s right, Superman wants the dog. While it’s not completely clear what’s going on, it’s probably safe to assume he’s talking about Krypto, the Super Dog. Krypto has been shown in a lot of the movie’s earlier promos, so this scene is likely tied to whatever’s going on with him.
Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, just sits there and acts like he has no idea what Superman is talking about. He even casually sips his coffee and denies everything. It’s a short clip, but it gives...

DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn addressed the apparent recasting of Clayface for his 2026 solo villain movie. Gunn made big promises from the begining that his Dcu will use the same actors across live-action and animation, over both film and TV. This is already being felt as actor Frank Grillo voiced Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos and will soon bring him to live-action in Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.
DC Studios confirmed that Apple TV+'s Suspicion actor Tom Rhys Harries will play Clayface in the Batman villain's 2026 horror movie. This marks a recast after Clayface made his Dcu debut in last year's animated Creature Commandos where he was voiced by Alan Tudyk.
One fan responded to DC Studios co-ceo and Clayface executive producer James Gunn on Threads pointing out the apparent recast. In response, he noted that the Dcu "would plan on using Primary actors whenever [they] can," indicating this may...

When Superman debuts in July, several major DC characters will make their first live-action theatrical appearances. One such hero is Krypto the Superdog, Clark Kent/Superman's childhood dog who also survived Krypton's destruction. The human stars of the film include David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Frank Grillo, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, Anthony Carrigan, Skyler Gisondo, and Wendell Pierce. Though the film is not an origin story, it will follow a younger Superman (Corenswet) balancing his relationship with Lois Lane (Brosnahan), the burgeoning enmity between himself and Lex Luthor (Hoult), and trying to be a hero.

Get ready for more chaos in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, hitting Max on August 21, 2025. John Cena’s unhinged antihero, Christopher Smith, is back, diving into the rebooted DC Universe (Dcu) with a fresh batch of foes to tackle.
This season promises gritty action, wild humor, and a deeper look into Peacemaker’s messy quest for peace at any cost. Let’s meet the six confirmed DC villains shaking things up.
White Rabbit DC Comics
Brey Noelle steps into the Dcu as White Rabbit, a lesser-known Batman villain. Known in the comics as Jaina Hudson, she’s a socialite with powers like duplication and super speed, often sporting provocative outfits inspired by the Playboy bunny.
Her role in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 (2025) remains under wraps, but I’m excited to see how her flashy style and abilities clash with Peacemaker’s brute force. She’s set to appear in at least one episode, marking her live-action debut.

James Gunn is set to bring a new vision to the Superman story with his upcoming movie, arriving in theaters on July 11, 2025. This film marks the first big-screen DC Universe release since Gunn became the director in 2022. He aims to refresh the characters, especially Superman and his well-known rival, Lex Luthor.
In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, Gunn shared that this version of Superman, played by David Corenswet, will be more vulnerable compared to previous versions like Henry Cavill’s.
Unlike the strong and nearly unbeatable Superman fans have seen before, this new Clark Kent will show more human weaknesses. Gunn also revealed that his take on Lex Luthor will be more relatable for viewers.
Traditionally, Lex Luthor is portrayed as a wealthy villain who opposes Superman, the hero everyone loves. Because Superman is the symbol of good, Lex is usually seen simply as the bad guy.
But Gunn wants to change that view.

Unveiled by Cinemark on X (formerly Twitter), one collectible features Krypto holding the popcorn bucket for you, then there are a couple of dog bowl versions of the bucket — which pet parents will love. Also, there are regular buckets with Krypto and Superman all over them. The brilliant buckets make very interesting memorabilia for fans who want to mark the occasion.

The rebooted Dcu is finally making its way to the big screen next month with the release of Superman. After two years of waiting, the Man of Steel (played by David Corenswet) is ready to take to the skies against Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). The film is expected to dominate the box office, and DC Studios is so sure it will be a hit, it's already begun work on a sequel... sort of. James Gunn, who wrote and directed Superman, recently revealed that Superman will, unsurprisingly, have a long future in the Dcu, and the character's second outing is already being developed.
James Gunn spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming Dcu movie, and the director had a surprising amount to say about potential sequels in the future. Gunn confirmed that he has already begun working on Superman's next Dcu appearance, although he wouldn't go so far as to call it a sequel.
