Max Grodénchik

Trivia

Max Grodénchik

Edit
  • Was a semi-professional baseball player in high school and considered going full professional, before deciding to become an actor. Ironically, a major plot point of Take Me out to the Holosuite (1998) was that his character, Rom, was a bad baseball player. In fact, Grodénchik was literally incapable of playing as badly as he was supposed to, which is why Rom plays left-handed in the episode; it was the only way Grodénchik could avoid looking like a skilled player trying to play like a bad player.
  • Is fluent in German and French.
  • Before playing the part of Rom (or auditioning for the part of Quark) on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993), Max played the part of the Ferengi, Sovak, on the Captain's Holiday (1990) episode of Star Trek: La nouvelle génération (1987).
  • Along with fellow DS9 co-stars Aron Eisenberg, Chase Masterson and the late Cecily Adams, he was part of the popular "Ferengi Family Hour" comedy sketch that frequented Star Trek conventions.
  • Before getting the recurring role of Rom on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993), he auditioned for the role of Rom's brother, Quark.
  • Has his own action figure in the likeness of his character, Rom, from the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) TV series.
  • Grew up in New York City public housing. His brother Barry is a State Assemblyman from Queens.
