- His favorite all-time band is U2. He continues to write all of his movies to their music. At one point, Girl Next Door (2004) contained three U2 songs: "In a Little While," "Bad," and "One Tree Hill".
- WideAwake, Inc., his production company, is named after his favorite student film he made at the USC Film School. That film's soundtrack was to U2's "Bad," which contains the lyrics, "I'm Wide Awake.".
- His mother named him after Paul Newman's unstoppable rebel character in Luke la main froide (1967) which turned out to be one of his all-time favorite movies.
- Graduated from Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut, Class of 1990.
