Biography

    • Music producer, songwriter, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist Steven Greenberg was born on October 24, 1950 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Steven started playing drums at age fifteen and was a member of several local garage rock bands. He wrote and produced his first record at age twenty. In the mid 70s Greenberg designed the Discomobile, which was a mobile disco-deejay unit that performed at various parties and weddings. Steven produced the disco single "Rock It" in the late 70s; this song was a good-sized local hit. The success of "Rock It" enabled Greenberg to form the studio group Lipps Inc. in 1979. Lipps Inc. scored a massive #1 hit single with "Funkytown" in early 1980, but were never able to either match or surpass the monumental success of that particular song. The band released their final album "4" in 1983 and stopped recording altogether in 1985. Steven formed the independent music label October Records in 1993. In 1998 he wrote and directed the documentary "Funkytown." Greenberg eventually moved into web design and owns the company Designstein.
