  • Was nominated for Broadway's 1994 Tony Award as Best Actor (Featured Role - Play) for playing Joe Pitt in Tony Kushner's "Angels in America: Perestroika."
  • In January 2017, a New York Times article reported that David Marshall Grant is a great-great-grandson of Sarah Mullett Grant and John Grant, the first-ever couple to have a wedding announcement published in the New York Times. The announcement ran in the September 18, 1851, issue. John Grant was a cousin of Ulysses S. Grant, who later became the leader of the Union forces during the Civil War and then president of the United States.
  • Played Joe Pitt in the first Broadway production of Tony Kushner's "Angels in America."
  • He was nominated for the 1994 Antoinette Perry (Tony) Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for "Angels in America: Part Two: Perestroika," on Broadway in New York City.
