Sylvester Stallone's Comedy 'Oscar' Bombed but Siskel & Ebert Loved It
Image
With future seasons of Sylvester Stallone's popular crime drama Tulsa King confirmed, a show in which he plays the head of a mafia family, we can't help but be reminded of one of the actor's earlier portrayals of a gangster. By 1991, Sylvester Stallone had already starred in five Rocky movies and three Rambo flicks, cementing himself as a bona fide action star who seemed most at home on screen when he was hitting something — or rather, someone. This is part of the reason why it was so shocking when his next project was as the lead role in Oscar, a comedy from one of the great filmmakers of the genre, director John Landis.

Kurt Cobain and Nirvana at an event for MTV Live 'n' Loud (1993)
2015: The Year Music Documentaries Brought Back the Dead
Kurt Cobain and Nirvana at an event for MTV Live 'n' Loud (1993)
Nothing fits the music documentary format quite so compellingly as a life cut tragically short. In addition to the ready-made dramatic arc, a subject who leaves this mortal coil before their time usually also leaves a certain amount of mystery in their wake, providing ample grist for filmmakers (and the folks they interview) to chew on.

Even when the hows and whys of an artist's tragic exit are a matter of uncontroversial record, questions of "What might have been?" inevitably linger over their prematurely truncated discography — in itself a far...

Courtney Love Doesn't Want You To See Kurt Cobain Conspiracy Docudrama 'Soaked In Bleach'
As the comments section for our review of the Kurt Cobain conspiracy docudrama "Soaked In Bleach" indicate, lots of people have very strong feelings regarding the death of the Nirvana frontman. The film from Benjamin Statler uses interviews and re-enactments to investigate the questions around Cobain's demise, as seen through the Pov of private investigator Tom Grant. The movie suggests that there's sufficient evidence to re-open the case, but Courtney Love, who has been implicated by some conspiracy theorists for being involved in or having information about alleged details of Cobain's death, is trying to halt cinemas from showing "Soaked In Bleach." Read More: Exclusive: Courtney Love Hires A Private Investigator In Clip From Kurt Cobain Docu-Drama 'Soaked In Bleach' Via her laywers, the musician/actress has sent cease-and-desist letters to theaters showing the film (which is available on Vimeo). Part of the letter reads: “The Film falsely.

Courtney Love Sends a Cease-and-Desist Letter to the Cobain Docudrama Soaked in Bleach
Kurt Cobain and Nirvana at an event for MTV Live 'n' Loud (1993)
Courtney Love's lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter to the makers of the Kurt Cobain film Soaked in Bleach, Deadline reports. Unlike the HBO documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, which had Love's full blessing, Bleach is an "unauthorized docudrama" that relies on the testimony of private investigator Tom Grant and reenactments of Cobain's life. Crucially, it also explores conspiracy theories that Love killed Cobain. "The Film falsely presents a widely and repeatedly debunked conspiracy theory that accuses Ms. Cobain of orchestrating the death of her husband Kurt Cobain," the lawyer's letter reads (the entirety of which can be read here.) "Any alleged factual representation to the contrary would be knowingly false, and hence intentionally and maliciously defamatory." The Seattle police department reexamined the evidence in 2014 and ruled Cobain's death a suicide. The producers of Soaked in Bleach have responded in kind, calling the letter "a cowardly attack on the...

Kurt Cobain and Nirvana at an event for MTV Live 'n' Loud (1993)
Outrage Watch: Courtney Love doesn't want you to see that other Kurt Cobain doc
Kurt Cobain and Nirvana at an event for MTV Live 'n' Loud (1993)
Welcome to Outrage Watch, HitFix's (almost) daily rundown of entertainment-related kerfuffles. Not anxious enough already? Get your fix of righteous indignation below, and stay posted for outrage updates throughout the week. Courtney Love wants you to see the new Kurt Cobain documentary. Just not that new Kurt Cobain documentary. Lawyers for the Nirvana frontman's widow order have issued a cease and desist letter aimed at theaters showing the Benjamin Statler-directed documentary "Soaked in Bleach," which -- much like Nick Broomfield's notorious 1999 doc "Kurt & Courtney" -- insinuates that Love may have had something to do with her late husband's death. Dated June 11, the letter comes closely on the heels of the Brett Morgen-directed Cobain documentary "Montage of Heck," which was produced by Cobain's daughter Frances Bean Cobain and which Love has publicly supported. "This letter shall serve as notice to [redacted] that the Film portrays Ms. Cobain in a...

Exclusive: Courtney Love Hires A Private Investigator In Clip From Kurt Cobain Docu-Drama 'Soaked In Bleach'
While the acclaimed documentary "Kurt Cobian: Montage Of Heck" celebrates the life of the late Nirvana frontman, it does not cover his death, with the film concluding two weeks before he would commit suicide. But that's where the docu-drama "Soaked In Bleach" fills in the gap, digging into the curious circumstances around Cobain's passing, and we have exclusive clip from the film. Read More: Sundance Review: 'Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck' Is An Entertaining And Moving Rock Star Portrait  Directed by Benjamin Statler, the movie centers on private investigator Tom Grant's unique perspective on Cobain's death. He was hired by Courtney Love to find her husband only days before he was discovered dead in their Seattle home. Grant believes there is enough empirical and circumstantial evidence to suggest foul play was involved, and as you'll see in the sequence below, there was something that raised a red...

Helmed by first-time director Benjamin Statler, Soaked in Bleach reveals the events surrounding the death of Cobain in 1994 as told by private investigator Tom Grant. Soaked In Bleach Trailer Examines Whether Kurt Cobain Was Actually Murdered
Brett Morgen.s documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, examining the life of the reluctant rock star, caused quite a stir at Sundance earlier this year. Now another movie, Soaked in Bleach, looks to examine a different part of his story, specifically his death, albeit in fictional form, and a new trailer is here. Like damn near every tragic death that takes place in the public eye, there are tons of conspiracy theories floating around about Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.s 1994 suicide. Soaked in Bleach provides a look at the musician.s death from the perspective of Tom Grant (played by Daniel Roebuck), a private detective hired by Courtney Love to track down her husband after he left rehab just days before his body was discovered. Though it was ultimately ruled a suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot, there have been those who have doubted the story since day one, and...
