Say Goodbye to Two Spooky Cartoon Network Classics as They Leave Streaming
Image
Two of Cartoon Network’s most beloved (and occasionally nightmare-inducing) animated series have officially vanished from HBO Max. As of July 31, Courage the Cowardly Dog and What’s New, Scooby-Doo? have been pulled from the streamer after their most recent licensing agreements expired — and in a move that will haunt fans worse than Freaky Fred’s grin, they’re not being renewed. The move marks another pivot in Warner Bros. Discovery’s content strategy, as the company again shifts away from kids’ programming on the platform and reaffirms its focus on adult and family titles. Sources confirm that with “HBO” now once again part of the streamer’s branding, children’s shows are being deprioritized when their licenses come up for renewal.

Courage the Cowardly Dog, which ran from 1999 to 2002, was never exactly light Saturday morning fare. Created by John R. Dilworth, the show delivered surreal, horror-infused tales centered on...

25 Years Later, Looking Back at ‘Courage the Cowardly Dog’ and Its Heady Mix of Jungian Concepts, Nietzsche, and Angry Eggplants
Image
Animated specters, demons, angry eggplants, and all manner of otherworldly entities visited the town of Nowhere in “Courage the Cowardly Dog.” Created by John Dilworth, the bizarrely endearing Cartoon Network show about an apprehensive pup facing strange foes to protect his beloved owner, Muriel, celebrates its 25th anniversary this month.

“Courage” debuted on November 12, 1999, and spawned 52 episodes (102 segments). However, the brave pinkish canine (voiced by Marty Grabstein) first appeared in Dilworth’s 1996 Oscar-nominated short film “The Chicken from Outer Space,” which served as the show’s pilot.

“I never thought of making a cartoon show that would have such an impact,” said Dilworth during a recent video interview from New York. “Look at my colleagues doing ‘The Simpsons,’ there are shows that are profound. I just have this little dog show, and perhaps it was my wanting to do a family drama that had elements of scary and funny in it.

Terror Con 2023 Event Report: Massachusetts Horror Convention Returns with Star-Studded Celebration
Image
It’s not even October, but Massachusetts is already being spoiled with horror events. A mere week after Silver Scream Con took place in Danvers, Terror Con slashed into the Royal Plaza Trade Center in Marlborough on September 15-17.

Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, had the longest lines throughout the weekend. He was joined by several other A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise alumni: Part 1’s Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, and Ronee Blakeley; Part 2’s Mark Patton and Kim Myers; Part 4’s Lisa Wilcox and Nicholas Mele; Part 5’s Erika Anderson, Whit Hertford, and Beatrice Boepple; and Freddy vs. Jason‘s Monica Keena.

Other big draws included Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Edward Furlong (Terminator 2), pro wrestling legend Mick Foley, The Walking Dead‘s Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Chandler Riggs, Emily Kinney, and Katelyn Nacon, Danielle Harris (Halloween), Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), John Kassir (Tales from the Crypt), and a Fright Night reunion with Chris Sarandon,...

Image
Courage the Cowardly Dog is back for an all new adventure with the Scooby-Doo gang. The two iconic animated dogs will team up for the animated crossover movie Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog, which is set to be released on Digital and DVD this fall. A new trailer has also been released for the movie, which you can take a look at below.

"[The movie] is definitely going to trigger acute nostalgia for those of us who grew up watching both Scooby-Doo and Courage shows, and it will also bring these wonderful characters to a new generation of viewers," director/producer Cecilia Aranovich said in a statement, per Syfy Wire.

"Merging the two worlds in a cohesive manner was one of the most challenging aspects of production," Aranovich added. "But I feel we found the right balance by bringing in the design elements and the color palette from the Courage world,...

Courage the Cowardly Dog: Season One - DVD Review
Return to Nowhere, Kansas where a faithful, yet scared stiff, dog protest his mistress from all manner of invaders. Wilson) Bagge are animated denizens of Nowhere, Kansas. They live in an isolated house in the middle of Nowhere. Muriel.s pet is the purple dog named Courage (Marty Grabstein) who doesn.t live up to his name as he is scared of just about everything.
