Govorukhin died on June 14, 2018 at 10:37 am in the sanatorium Barvikha following a long illness at the age 83. Farewell took place on June 16, 2018 in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and on the same day he was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery.

Got honorary title "People's Artist of the Russian Federation" for his great merits in the field of art. (2006)

Re-elected to Russian parliament. (1999)

Got about 1% in Russian presidential elections. (2000)

Had three grandchildren: Stanislav Govorukhin, Jr. (b. 1990), Vasiliy Govorukhin (b. 1998) and Varvara (b. 2010).

Had one son, Sergei Govorukhin (September 1, 1961-October 27, 2011), with his now late ex-first wife Yunona Kareva. He died from complications of a stroke at the age 50.
