  • Birth name
    Gideon Gov

Biography

    • Talented singer and wonderful serious and comic actor. Gidi's father died when he was very young, which made his mother move from place to place, so he lived in different places in Israel. He wanted to go into a combat unit in the Israeli army but because of his asthma he eventually got into the Israeli army singing troupe where he did a lot of memoribal prefomances with many other famous to be Israeli actors and singers. Gidi eventually formed a band with famous Israeli musicians such as Dani Sanderson, Efraim Shamir andand Yoni Rechter. The band was called "Kaveret" (meaning "beehive" in Hebrew) and became one of the most popular Israeli bands in the 1970's. Later he formed a band called "Gazoz" (meaning "soft drink" in Hebrew) which only lasted two albums, but which was a very popular and remembered one. Later Gidi joined the "Zehu Zeh" (meaning "that's it" in Hebrew) group, which included Monny Moshonov and Shlomo Bar-Abba. In 1994 he left "Zehu Zeh" (Though kept in good contact with his fellow "Zehu Zeh"ians) for his own host show called "Lilah Gov". In 1995 the TV broadcasters wanted to take "Lilah Gov" off the air, but had to cancel that Idea, due to several thousand autographs of protesting fans. One notable film Gidi was in was "The Troupe" (1977), where he portrayed a soldier in the Israeli army singing Troupe. It was more of a biography of the life of an Israeli soldier in the Israeli army singing troupe.
