The conclusion of Guillermo del Toro's "Hellboy" trilogy seems destined to never see the light of day. It's been almost two decades since "Hellboy II: The Golden Army," del Toro himself said in 2017 that "Hellboy 3" will "100%" not be happening, and original Hellboy creator Mike Mignola pushed the films into a reboot in 2019 (and then another with 2024's "Hellboy: The Crooked Man").
In May 2017, the day after the Neil Marshall-directed "Hellboy" reboot was announced, Peter Briggs revealed on Facebook that Universal once (in 2010) had even greater plans for Hellboy. It turns out "Hellboy 3" wasn't the only del Toro-Hellboy project that got axed.
Enter "Hellboy: Silverlance," a proposed spin-off about forest elf Prince Nuada (Luke Goss), the main villain of "The Golden Army." Briggs was approached to write it, and he turned in a draft with co-writer Aaron Mason.

George Michael’s many acts of generosity, often conducted under condition of anonymity, have come to light since the star’s death in 2016.
Now, his backing singer Shirley Lewis has revealed that she was also the beneficiary of his great kindness, when she found herself struggling financially.
Lewis, who was married at the time to Bros drummer Luke Goss told The Mirror newspaper that she had been worrying about where she woud live with her daughter and had sold her watch for £5,000 but was left frantic when the envelope of cash went missing.
She told the newspaper:
“I was talking to George on the phone and suddenly burst into tears. He asked what was wrong and I told him my husband and I were in a really bad place and I’d lost some cash, and he said he was going to give me some money and hung up. The...

Guillermo del Toro's mecha vs kaiju beat-em-up blockbuster "Pacific Rim" is still his biggest commercial hit, but the sequel "Pacific Rim: Uprising" is largely considered a wash. Neither del Toro nor star Charlie Hunnam returned for "Uprising," which makes it extra easy to write off.
Hunnam played Raleigh Becket, a pilot of the "Jaeger" mecha Gipsy Danger, which was designed to kill enormous extradimensional monsters. In an interview with Inverse, when asked if he'd go back for a potential "Pacific Rim 3," Hunnam suggested it would need to be del Toro calling him back: "I would do anything that Guillermo was doing. If Guillermo invites me to do 'Pacific Rim 3,' I'll be there, or anything else he wants me to do."
Hunnam and del Toro first met when the latter was auditioning for "Hellboy II: The Golden Army." Hunnam did a make-up test for the film's villain, the cream-skinned elf Prince Nuada,...

2019's The Hard Way, which has an 18% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, was released direct-to-vod. The movie has now become a streaming hit, landing at No. 9 on Netflix's weekly global chart of English-language movies. The movie's success could help boost the profile of its stars Randy Couture and Michael Jai White.
The Hard Way has become a streaming hit on Netflix. The action movie, which follows a soldier gathering some friends to help him seek revenge for the death of his brother in Romania, was released direct-to-vod in 2019 and largely flew under the radar. It didn't even receive enough reviews to earn an official critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, though audiences were largely negative toward the release, giving it an 18% score at the time of writing. However, the movie does feature some notable names including The Expendables star Randy Couture and Spawn's Michael Jai White.

When the Roger Corman-produced "Death Race 2000" was released in 1975, the film earned a poor critical reception. Major criticisms included a lack of depth in terms of its themes of anarchy and rebellion, with its campy entertainment factor not being enough to offset its overt sleaziness. However, just like every film that's gone on to attain cult status, "Death Race 2000" underwent critical reappraisal over the years and is now deemed a cult classic -- one whose indulgent and excessive violence has emerged as one of its strengths.
A sequel to "Death Race 2000," titled "Death Race 2050," wasn't made until 2017. However, there's more: Paul W. S. Anderson's 2008 reboot of Corman's original — the confusingly titled "Death Race" — is also meant to be a prequel. The film traces the crash of the U.S. economy and the rapid rise in crime rates, which birth the titular gladiator-style closed-track race...

The future is here and it’s out of control in the dazzling sci-fi thriller Override starring Luke Goss – released 6th September on DVD and Digital. To celebrate the new release, we are giving away three DVDs!
The legendary Luke Goss (Hellboy 2) stars alongside Superman himself Dean Cain, and Jess Impiazzi in Override, a terrifically entertaining, smartly plotted mix of Ex Machina and I, Robot, about a futuristic reality show using an alluring female android that goes badly wrong.
Stylishly filmed, with sleek effects and a pulsing soundtrack, and a terrific performance from Impiazzi as a seriously sultry ‘perfect wife’ – the ‘Reality Interface Android’ (R.I.A) who goes off the rails, the film wouldn’t look out of place as a slick and sexy feature-length Black Mirror episode.
As well as pop-idol-turned-prolific-action-star Goss, the film also features much-loved 80s pop star Sinitta and Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt; as well Charlie Clapham,...

Jess Impiazzi stars as a TV show android who has a different husband each day but gets hacked in this scattershot drama
This is an inane hodgepodge of sci-fi, political thriller and perhaps some kind of ill-considered satire – of reality TV, venal politicians? It’s hard to divine the target when the attack is so scattershot. It is supposed to take place in the US in 2040 where everyone is obsessed with watching a daily TV show about a buxom android housewife with an English accent named Ria (Jess Impiazzi); she spends every day nearly the same way with her husband Jack, from waking up and breakfasting to winding down with an evening soap opera and then sex if Jack so wishes. In other words, it’s The Truman Show meets The Stepford Wives, except there’s just the one wife – and the twist is that “Jack” is played by a different person in each episode.

Last year, in the build up to Christmas, we had the pleasure of speaking to Luke Goss to mark the release of his festive flick The Loss Adjuster. After our chat with the Bros star, we felt enriched. His outlook on life was infectious, and so needless to say, we were rather looking forward to having the chance to chat to him again, this time for US gangster flick Hollow Point – which is out now.
Thankfully, it seemed Luke was as pleased to see us as we were him, recognising the connection made just a few months prior. But the type of film being promoted here is a somewhat different one, and we asked about the allure of the gangster flick, and if they are as cool to star in as they can often be to watch. He also talks about his process, and whether he fancies working on any more lighter films,...

Lionsgate’s Voyagers isn’t your ordinary “the human race is in danger” sci fi romp.
Written and directed by Neil Burger Voyagers follows a group of young men and women bred specifically to have a great level of intelligence and obedience as they embark on an expedition to colonize a distant planet.
Sounds like good, safe fun, right? Well, if it was it wouldn’t be a movie worth watching.
It doesn’t take long for the young group of what could be manufactured automatons to start to uncover disturbing secrets about the mission. As things begin to unravel, they defy their training and begin to explore their most primitive natures. As a result, the entire ship becomes chaos in space as they’re consumed by fear, lust, and the insatiable hunger for power.

"Someone has to deliver justice to these criminals!" Vertical Ent. has released an official trailer for an indie action film called Hollow Point, one of the latest from director Daniel Zirilli (who has already made a few other films since this first debuted). This originally premiered at The Netherlands and the UK a few years ago, but is only now finally getting a US release on VOD. Basically getting dumped into the bargain bin for obvious reasons. When his wife and daughter are senselessly murdered, a grieving man finds himself caught up in a war between a group of charismatic vigilantes and the crime that infests their city. Set mostly in Los Angeles. Oh so original. The film stars Luke Goss, Dilan Jay, Jay Mohr, JuJu Chan, Michael Paré, and Bill Duke. This just looks so awful, especially the dialogue and the action and everything else in here. Here's the...

Given the year we’ve had, it’s fair to say we all need a bit of Christmas cheer at the moment, and The Loss Adjuster may just be the ticket. To mark the release of this festive comedy, set in London, we spoke to two of its leading stars, chatting to protagonist Luke Goss, and then to supporting actress Lorna Fitzgerald. We discuss the film’s charm, and both of their respective plans for the Christmas period. Meanwhile we were fully taken in my Goss’s unique and optimistic outlook on life as we hope for a better 2021. Meanwhile with Fitzgerald we discuss her experiences on Eastenders, and whether she still keeps on top of what’s going on in the square… Watch both interviews in their entirety below.

"Sometimes you have to lose it all... to find what out what really matters." Pink Flamingo Films released the official trailer for an indie dramedy titled The Loss Adjuster, from the UK directed by Vincent Woods. Luke Goss stars as a "Hapless Insurance Loss Adjuster" who feels his life is spiraling out of control but discovers that even when you reach rock bottom, that some clouds really do have a silver lining. When his wife leaves him, he befriends strangers around the city at Christmas time. "The idea was to create a story of hope, fortitude, craziness set against sadness, loss and frustration but create the ability to laugh at the same time. Picking yourself up through tiny moments and kind gestures from those real friends around you and unexpected goodness." Also starring Guy Siner, Martin Kemp, Lorna Fitzgerald, Cathy Tyson, Joan Collins, and Kym Marsh. This looks a bit rough around the edges,...

Producer/actor Mike Hatton’s production shingle, Ton of Hats, Inc. in partnership with 101 Films International have announced the surprise completion of principal photography on director Christian Sesma’s Take Back, a martial-arts action saga starring Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler); Michael Jai White; Gillian White and James Russo (Django Unchained).
The producers believe Take Back is among the first independent films to successfully wrap principal photography following California’s (and most other states’) shutdown order, which effectively shut down film production nationwide.
Written by Zach Zerries in his feature-film penning debut, Take Back, shot in nearly complete secrecy in The Coachella Valley in Riverside County California, took place at breakneck speed under strict Covid-19 guidelines set forth by city, county, and state regulations, the industry’s white sheet, “The Safe Way Forward,” as guidance, SAG-AFTRA’s requirements, and the production’s own mandatory “Covid Playbook,” created by Hatton and director Sesma.

Surely, it can’t be long before we see a new addition to “The Film Critic’s Lexicon,” in the chapter devoted to such shorthand similes as “feels like a Hallmark movie,” “resembles an after-school special” and that old standby, “Tarantinoesque.” Chances are very good there will be something on the order of “good enough for lockdown” or “quarantine time-killer,” used to describe the sort of unabashedly derivative and instantly disposable genre fare that might find an audience among undemanding genre enthusiasts in search of something new — anything new — to watch while homebound.
And when that label does indeed appear, don’t be surprised to see a production still from writer-director Christian Sesma’s “Paydirt” alongside it as illustration.
A thoroughly mediocre but sporadically diverting mashup of elements cribbed from the cinemas of Guy Ritchie, Steven Soderbergh and, yes, Quentin Tarantino, “Paydirt” is a crime drama with darkly comical touches...

Paydirt is a godawful Guy Ritchie knockoff that fails utterly as a heist flick. A British parolee wrangles his old crew for one last big score in the California desert. Luke Goss does his Jason Statham impersonation surrounded by painfully dumb supporting characters. Who've got nifty nicknames like "The Brit", "The Babe", and "The Badass." They bumble about in a hackneyed plot peppered with terrible action scenes. A clearly ill Val Kilmer co-stars to the best of his abilities. He struggles in this performance while recovering from throat cancer.
The film opens "five years ago" in the Coachella Valley. Sheriff Tucker (Val Kilmer) leads a DEA raid on a known drug trafficker, Damien Brooks (Luke Goss) aka "The Brit." A shootout ends with innocent lives lost and a paltry amount of marijuana discovered. Tucker gets his man, but takes the fall for the bungled operation. The Brit receives a much shorter sentence for possession.

"They say it's buried out there somewhere..." Dark Star Pictures has revealed the first official trailer for a crime action thriller titled Paydirt, the latest by filmmaker Christian Sesma. This hasn't shown anywhere else, and is debuting direct-to-vod in August. Val Kilmer stars as a retired Sheriff with an "obsession to right past wrongs" who goes after an ex-convict that is searching for a buried bag of cash stolen a decade ago from a DEA bust gone bad. Sounds like every other dusty crime thriller about a con looking for his money. Starring Luke Goss, with Mike Hatton, Paul Sloan, Nick Vallelonga, Mirtha Michelle, Veronika Bozeman, Murielle Telio, and introducing Mercedes Kilmer. This looks so excessively cliche and so painfully mediocre it's hard to even finish this trailer. But at least Val Kilmer is starring in something again. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Christian Sesma's Paydirt, direct from...

Former pop star turned actor Luke Goss has had an interesting post-pop career, carving his own path in Hollywood, appearing in a number of action movies since his star-making turn in Blade 2. He has put in some great performances in a bevy of direct-to-market action movies, in particular the Death Race Dtv sequels – two of my personal favourites of his. What makes Goss such a good action star is, honestly, his smouldering good looks and a quiet demeanour. Thanks to which, he can pull off a smooth spy role and a quiet hard man of action hero proportions. In Legacy he does both, playing MI6 agent Gray – who in the opening calmly and smoothly (with...

In ten years time everyone is going to be saying “The Marvel films were actually quite rubbish, for the most part, weren’t they?”. This is because, they are. I enjoyed the odd one here and there (Guardians of the Galaxy) but for the most part, they are bad films. The Avengers have taken the traditionally accepted plot and story arc conventions of film making and torn them up. Why have Oreos when we can have double stuffed. Why have double stuffed when we can have quadruple stuffed? Those dark biscuit bits are unnecessary, just squirt the white cream into my mouth for over 3 hours while I gurgle with something that might be pleasure but isn’t.
Don’t get me started on the time travel.
