He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1991 Queen's New Year Honours List for his services to drama.

He was elected as a Fellow to the Royal Society of Literature in 1976.

Founder member of UK Equity, the Actor's Union in 1929. He joined its council in 1949 and was its vice president from 1963-1965 and from 1975-1982.

One of the witnesses at Marius Goring's third marriage to television director Prudence Fitzgerald in 1977 was Odette Hallowes, the woman whose exploits in WW2 were the basis of the film Odette (1950) in which Marius co-starred with Anna Neagle and Trevor Howard.

Enlisted in the Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment on 26 July 1940. Regiment Number: 6099377.

His memorial service was held at St Paul's Church, Covent Garden on 14 January 1999.

He greatly disliked Humphrey Bogart, with whom he worked on "The Barefoot Contessa", and privately referred to him as "Humphrey Bogus". However, he spoke well of the film's director Joseph L. Mankiewicz, and of leading lady Ava Gardner, with whom he also acted in "Pandora And The Flying Dutchman".

Portrayed Sir Percy Blakeney aka The Scarlet Pimpernel on the UK radio show "The Scarlet Pimpernel" (1952-1953).

Despite being English born many directors and some of the public assumed he was French or German because of his name. He occasionally did play a foreigner in films which added to the confusion.
