London-born Richard Gordon became interested in movies at an early age and, together with his like-minded older brother Alex Gordon, got involved with film societies at school. Detecting greener grass on the other side of the ocean, the Brothers Gordon relocated to the United States in the late 1940s. While Alex ended up in California (where he later helped found "American International Pictures"), Richard remained in New York and started his own company, "Gordon Films", importing and distributing British and other foreign pictures in the U.S. This gradually led to his involvement in the setting-up of co-production deals, at which point he decided that, "if I was going to do it for somebody else, I could do it myself!" Producer Gordon goes without screen credit on some of his early films, including the Boris Karloff vehicles, Grip of the Strangler (1958) (aka "The Haunted Strangler") and Corridors of Blood (1958).
