Heavy-built one-time British bank robber who served several prison sentences, including 8 years for armed robbery, then turned his life around after taking an interest in acting, stage managing and theatrical producing while working as a handyman at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Formed his own theatre company called The Elephant Theatre in the late 1970s, serving as its artistic director. Later appeared as a character actor in films and TV.
