Mumbai, Aug 24 (Ians) Filmmaker Nikhil Mahajan, who on Thursday bagged the National Film Award for Best Direction for Marathi film ‘Godavari’, has called it a “surreal feeling” and said that this win is “closest to his heart”.

The director said: “This award is for my mom and dad who have tirelessly ensured that I get to live my dream. It is also for Jitendra Joshi who believed in me and stood by my side. It is for my entire cast and crew of ‘Godavari’ who rallied like champions against all odds and made it happen.”

“It is for Nashik which holds in its heart the mighty Godavari. It is for my producers Jio Studios who ensured that my voice and vision travelled everywhere. Pune, Nov 26 (Ians) Veteran Bollywood, Marathi films, stage and television actor Vikram Gokhale breathed his last at a private hospital here on Saturday afternoon, his family announced. He was 77.

He was 77 and the end came at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. His funeral rites shall be performed at the Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune around 6 p.m. today.

Gokhale had been battling for life for the past over a fortnight and his condition was described as “extremely critical” with multiple organ failures, on Thursday.

Later, medicos said on Friday that his health was improving and he was responding positively to treatment.

Veteran Bollywood and Marathi stage, film, and TV actor Vikram Gokhale is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Pune following health complications. The 82-year-old actor was admitted to the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital a few days ago.

As per media reports, “He is still critical and on life support. He has not passed away yet. Keep praying for him,” said Vikram Gokhale’s daughter.

New York, May 8: "Anumati" directed by Gajendra Ahire has won the Best Feature Film award at the New York Indian Film Festival (Nyiff) with Vikram Gokhale getting the Best Actor award for his role as a desperate husband.

The winners were chosen from 18 narrative, 10 documentaries (feature length or shorter) and 8 shorts from the Indian subcontinent and its diaspora featured at the festival, which ran April 30 - May 4.

Director Hansal Mehta took home the Best Director of a Feature Film award for his compelling film "Shahid", which traces the true story of slain human rights activist lawyer Shahid Azmi.

Hansal Mehta won the Best Director award for Shahid at the 13th New York Indian Film Festival which concluded on Saturday. Shahid is based on the life of slain human rights activist and lawyer Shahid Azmi.

New Delhi, March 18: Critically acclaimed "Paan Singh Tomar" was named the best feature film of 2012 in the 60th National Film Awards announced here Monday.

The Tigmanshu Dhulia-directorial even won the best actor's trophy for Irrfan, who essayed the role of a national level athlete who went on to become one of the most dreaded dacoits of Chambal Valley.

The best actor's trophy is shared by Vikram Gokhale for Marathi film "Anumati", while the best actress honour went to Usha Jadhav for her performance in "Dhag", also in Marathi.

The prestigious awards for 2012 were announced by filmmakers Basu Chatterjee, Aruna.
