Turned down the chance to work on Blade Runner (1982) in favor of working on Les Maîtres du temps (1982). He always regretted that decision.

Acclaimed illustrator, he is known for his highly detailed and fine line artwork, often incorporating surreal landspaces.

First came to public attention in the USA in the 1980's after his work was published in the graphic science fiction magazine "Heavy Metal", an American version of the French publication "Metal Hurlant" (literally: "Screaming Metal").

He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comics Hall of Fame in 1998.
