Exclusive: The marketing and promotion creatives working on hit film, TV and games had their moment in the sun at the fourth Global Entertainment Awards over the weekend.

The awards, held in the Algarve, Portugal, recognize work across film, TV, games and streaming.

Brazilian broadcaster Globo’s trailer for its coverage of the Olympic Games won Best Trailer in the TV section, beating nominees including Sky and Peacock drama The Day Of The Jackal. Sky did, however, prevail in the Best Teaser category, where Lockerbie was the winner.

Work on Netflix projects fared well, with an international spread of wins across categories including Best Social Media Spot, for a Next on Netflix India sizzle reel, and Best Behind the Scenes for Brazil-produced drama Senna. Squid Game Season 2 and Baby Reindeer also featured.

‘Is There Anybody Out There?’ Director Ella Glendining on Her ‘Battle Cry for Disabled People’ Documentary, Scripted Feature Debut

Ella Glendining is both the director and subject of documentary “Is There Anybody Out There?,” a global search for someone with a body that looks like hers.

The film debuted at Sundance this year and went on to achieve global acclaim, winning a slew of awards along the way. Recent accolades include winning the BFI and Chanel Filmmaker Award and being named as one of the U.K. talents in the BAFTA Breakthrough 2023 cohort.

“A big thing for me making a personal film was that I was insecure and worried that people would think that I was just the subject of a documentary, but to be recognized on this level is an incredible confidence boost in terms of me as a filmmaker, because that’s who I am. What I am first and foremost is a filmmaker and a storyteller,” Glendining, who was born with a rare leg disability, told Variety.

Catalyst Studios Launches Docuseries ‘EmpowHer’ Going Behind The Scenes Of Inaugural Female-Driven Slate

Exclusive: Fledgling U.S. production company Catalyst Studios has announced eight-part docuseries EmpowHer going behind the scenes of the films on its inaugural slate driven by six female and non-binary directors and producers.

Catalyst Studios was launched last May as a joint venture between social entrepreneur Holly Levow and producer Paul Kampf of Equitas Entertainment, and Mark Pennell of Beacon Pictures, with a focus on emerging talent and diverse storytelling.

EmpowHer will follow the journeys of filmmakers from across Catalyst Studios’ slate including Michelle Salcedo with Switch & Bait, starring Otmara Marrero and Katie Clarkson-Hill; Joanne Mitchell with Sybil; Siri Rødnes with Follow Me starring Connie Nielsen, and Colombian auteur Ana Maria Hermida with the recently announced coming-of-age feature film Alix.

Further filmmaker subjects include Tamika Miller and Milena Grujic with soon-to-be-announced projects.
