Since the release of "Prometheus" in 2012, the "Alien" franchise has been lingering on the prequel side of the story, with the aforementioned film as well as "Alien: Covenant" and "Alien: Romulus" taking place before or just after the original "Alien." Yet this doesn't mean that the films have been content with merely rehashing concepts seen in the earlier movies, nor have they spent any time setting up characters and/or plot points to be developed in the stories that are set in their future. Instead, these prequels have continued the unspoken creative mandate established by the original four...

Spoilers ahead for the latest episode of "Alien: Earth."
Between advances in visual effects and increasing TV show budgets (itself a bit of a double-edged sword), it's gotten to the point where TV spin-offs of major movie franchises can look just as good as their big screen counterparts. A show like "Andor" has practical sets that look as vast and detailed as those in any "Star Wars" film made in the past 25 years, while "The Rings of Power" has delivered large-scale battles on par with those in Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
Enter "Alien: Earth," a series with impressive production design, but also one that has torn the /Film newsroom apart.

Has Alien: Earth reintroduced the Xenomorph mythos that has prevailed over the years? Yes, definitely. The first two episodes lay the groundwork for this fact, and as we move ahead with a new chapter of the show, this fact claims to be true.
As seen in the third episode, Metamorphosis, when Wendy (Sydney Chandler) saves Joe (Alex Lawther), the Xenomorph doesn’t attack them; moreover, it just passes through. Why? What changed the creature’s mind? Why did it not pertain to its nature of attacking? Did it sense something off about Wendy? All these questions affirm the fact that the lore has been reinvented and how.

“It’s using the air ducts to move around!” This dialogue in Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien still sends chills down the spine whenever it’s time to talk about the Xenomorph’s presence. No wonder the creature has taken over our minds, hearts, and souls with its gruesome predatory nature. But it’s not just one; there are many, and here are the 18 most terrifying Xenomorphs in the Alien Universe, ranked by threat level.
From the shadowy corridors of a spacecraft to the grimy ventilation shafts of a space station and now, potentially, the familiar streets of Earth, the Xenomorph has etched itself into the collective subconscious as the ultimate bio-horror. The creature’s inception, conceived by H.R. Giger’s surreal imagination, has been brought to life, unleashing an enduring archetype of fear. Its biomechanical design, gory nature, and weird life cycle have a lot to talk about.

Yes, Cameron Brown is the actor behind Xenomorph’s feisty and terrifying 8-foot-tall costume in Alien: Earth. Since the ship crashed on New Siam in Prodigy City, the show has swept the audience off its feet with chilling visuals of the alien creature.
Known for his versatility and broad range in acting, Cameron Brown was also praised by his Hulu show’s cast members, who also called him ”the sweetest vegan.” Furthermore, Brown hails from New Zealand and has made significant progress in his career after being cast in Alien: Earth. Furthermore, having the Xenomorph and other necessary elements adhered to the Alien universe, program creator Noah Hawley has been very particular throughout the process of creating the creatures exactly as per Ridley Scott and H.R. Giger’s specifications. Also, Scott has been credited as an executive producer on Alien: Earth.

A course correction for the franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth is now available on Digital at home ahead of a physical media release from Universal on September 9, and we’ve got an exclusive sneak peek at one of the film’s bonus features to share with you this week.
From the behind-the-scenes featurette entitled Jurassic World Rebirth: Hatching a New Era, the clip focuses on the creature design of the Distortus Rex, an all-new dino creation.
Whether or not the Distortus Rex is actually a “dinosaur” is up for debate – for what it’s worth, visual effects supervisor David Vickery calls it a “creature” and says he “can’t call it a dinosaur because it’s not” – it’s one of the most monstrous creations from the franchise to date, intentionally designed to look like a mix between a Xenomorph and a Rancor from Star Wars.

[This story contains spoilers for the first two episodes of Alien: Earth.]
If you’re in space, and no one can hear you scream, that’s probably because a certain xenomorph with acid for blood has become a wee bit predictable — which is exactly why Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley brought some new monstrous friends along for the party.
The new FX series from Fargo mastermind Hawley marks the historic Alien franchise’s first run at the small-screen, following a Sigourney Weaver-led quadrilogy and various spinoffs and relaunches. It’s a first in another way for the franchise, too, as it brings the classic H.R. Giger-designed creature into the same sphere as some brand new aliens, created specifically for this show.
In the first two episodes alone, which debuted on Tuesday, Aug. 12, Alien: Earth introduced a bevy of unique monstrosities including but not limited to a tentacled eyeball and a nest of extraterrestrial flies. The show has also...

This week sees the release of Alien: Earth, the latest installment in the increasingly congested Alien franchise. The new streaming series is reportedly a prequel, set two years before the events of the original 1979 classic and 16 years before Alien: Eastbound & Down.
In addition to the plethora of official Alien sequels and spin-offs, there have been countless parodies over the years, the best of which have featured actual franchise alumni. For example: Mel Brooks convinced his former Elephant Man collaborator John Hurt to recreate the classic chestburster scene for Spaceballs.
But when he hosted SNL in 1995 (one week after the show was trashed by New York Magazine), Reiser was better known for playing Paul Buchman in the hit sitcom Mad About You. So, naturally, SNL’s writers decided to combine Reiser’s two famous roles in the baffling, weirdly lazy “Aliens 4: Mad About You Aliens.”

Before I begin, I should establish with readers that I vastly prefer Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror film "Alien" over James Cameron's high-octane action-packed 1986 follow-up "Aliens." Heck, I even prefer David Fincher's strange, awkward prison tragedy "Alien3" over "Aliens." While Cameron's film is slick and exciting, the "Alien" series -- for me -- has always functioned better when it hovers in the realm of terror, fear, and death. The alien Xenomorphs, designed by Swiss surrealist H.R. Giger, are better movie monsters when they are ineffable, strange, and off-putting. The title of Scott's film is both a noun and an adjective, describing a biological horror that the film's human protagonists can barely understand.
When standing in front of a Gigerian nightmare from beyond the stars -- one made of aspic, teeth, and remixed human genitals -- one shouldn't be holding a gun shouting clichéd movie dialogue like "Let's rock.

Despite a handful of oddball classics like The Toxic Avenger and Tromeo & Juliet occasionally breaking into the mainstream, Troma films usually exist in a category all of their own. You simply can’t evaluate these movies using the same metrics as other forms of cinema because the goals of a Troma production are quite different from the film industry’s usual output. This unique quality is precisely what has kept the company going for so long, as no one else is offering what the Troma Team is making.
And with over half a century of independent production and distribution under their belt, it’s only natural that Troma has quite the expansive catalogue of less popular films that still deserve love from genre fans. With that in mind, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six underrated Troma movies that are still worth revisiting!

Alien: Earth is breaching containment later this month, and you can look your best for the impending invasion with a new collection of Alienjewelry from RockLove. Collider has an exclusive look at three new items from the collection that are guaranteed to make you, or the science fiction fan in your life, recoil in horror...but in a good way. Finally, H.R. Giger's iconic biomechanical designs can adorn your body without bursting gruesomely out of it.
The Xenomorph Hoop Earrings feature the iconic bipedal Xenomorph figure, crouched in a stalking position; the creature's barbed tail serves as the "hoop" of the hoop earring. The Xenomorph Queen Ring features the crested Xenomorph Queen that Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) encounters at the end of Aliens, sculpted to make it look as if the creature is curled around the wearer's finger. There’s an academic theory that proposes that each film in the Alien franchise is about the problems of a specific generation. Ridley Scott’s Alien is about blue-collar labor and misogyny; James Cameron’s Aliens is about the fallout from Vietnam; David Fincher’s Alien³ is about the AIDS crisis and the pro-life movement; and so on.
All of it is very much subtext, and easy to skate past for a viewer looking for grisly sci-fi/horror thrills and nothing else. But that’s not as easy to accomplish with Alien: Earth, which has a lot of other things on its mind that don’t involve H.R. Giger’s xenomorphs.
The 22nd-century Earth of Alien: Earth is a cybercapitalist nightmare where five corporations control all aspects of human life in ways that make 2025 feel like a hippie utopia. One of those corporations is, of course, Weyland-Yutani, and one of the others is Prodigy,...

When Noah Hawley turned “Fargo” into a TV series, he approached the beloved Coen brothers’ film as a “state of mind” — a familiar world to play in, rather than a specific story to retell.
With “Alien: Earth,” the showrunner takes a similar tack: latching onto the sweaty, slimy, murky aesthetic of Ridley Scott’s horror classic, as well as the expansive yet pointed imagination of James Cameron’s sequel, to fashion a new narrative as strange as it is fitting. While not a strict homage to either film (lacking the eerie grace of Scott’s exacting horror show and the linear propulsion of Cameron’s action flick), Hawley’s freaky first season (all of which was screened for this review) similarly foregrounds a keen appetite for discovery and a healthy fear of the unknown; a drive toward what we don’t know and a respect for what we don’t understand.

From Frankenstein to the Island of Doctor Moreau, genre writers have thoroughly explored the horrors that can result from scientists playing God. However, as real life science continues to evolve, it makes sense that our bogeymen have also changed in order to adapt to modern fears.
I was reminded of this while watching Jurassic World: Rebirth; regardless of the film’s overall quality, the misshapen D-Rex marks a return to the genetically-engineered terror of Michael Crichton’s original novel – a sci-fi/horror trope that I think is in dire need of a comeback. And in honor of the test tube scares of yesteryear, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six of the scariest genetically engineered monstrosities in film!

The latest in our ongoing series where writers highlight their rewatchable comfort films is an unlikely yet cathartic sci-fi horror classic
Guardian writers on their ultimate feelgood movies
Amid a recent IVF crisis, I turned to my husband in A&e and said, “We should put on a cosy movie when we get home, like Aliens.” Immediately my mind flashed to the film’s iconic image of gooey eggs exploding under vigorous gunfire. I’ve viewed Aliens at least once a year for the last decade. It is both an excellent and terrible movie. The Alien franchise found new life last year with the critically-acclaimed Romulus. It was a massive box office hit and fans don't have to wait much longer for the next entry in the 45-plus-old horror series. Alien: Earth, the first live-action TV series for the brand, is premiering on FX next month. Now, ahead of the Xenomorph’s deadly trip to our planet, Sideshow Collectibles is celebrating the Ridley Scott-directed original film with their latest Hot Toys figure.
Named after the popular nickname for the first Xenomorph in the 1979 classic, the “Big Chap” is based on H.R. Giger’s legendary design. The ⅙ scale figure stands at a menacing 36 centimeters tall. It comes with eight interchangeable hands (one with bendable fingers), a head with an articulated jaw, and a diorama base. There will also be a Special Edition that comes with an additional metal Alien card with a display case.

The news that Thunderbolts* would introduce the McU's take on The Sentry was met with excitement by fans, but also some trepidation. How would Marvel Studios go about adapting one of its most overpowered, complex, and often confounding characters?
*The New Avengers did a superb job of making Robert Reynolds a richly complex and dark character, exploring his mental health problems and putting a fresh spin on The Void that played into The Sentry's struggles.
However, it only really scratched the surface of Bob's potential, and there are still many places he could go in Avengers: Doomsday and beyond.
We recently sat down with the Thunderbolts* director, Jake Schreier, and asked the filmmaker whether he ever considered adapting one of The Void's more monstrous horror-inspired forms from the comics.
While what we saw in the movie was pretty haunting—the villain takes on a shadow-like form—there are examples...

In the annals of cinematic history, few franchises can rival the longevity or creative variance of the "Alien" saga. Born from Ridley Scott's magnificent 1979 shocker "Alien," this sci-fi horror franchise introduced audiences to H.R. Giger's wonderfully nightmarish creature -- the Xenomorph. A double-jawed monstrosity, drenched in slime and armed with acid blood, razor-sharp instincts, and a twisted form of intelligence, this so-called "perfect organism" has terrorized humanity across the galaxy for centuries.
While the creature's escapades have ranged from genre-defining highs ("Aliens") to unfortunate lows ("Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem"), the Xenomorph remains an astonishing cultural icon, continuing to haunt us through films, books, comics, and soon, an FX television series helmed by Noah Hawley.
Still, with so much material across so many mediums, it's easy to lose track of the timeline -- or to wonder how one story connects to another.

[Editor’s note: The following article contains some spoilers for “Jurassic World: Rebirth.”]
He’s the first big bad we meet in Gareth Edwards’ “Jurassic World: Rebirth.” He’s massive. He’s mad. He’s under major lock and key. Wait, is he even a he? Weren’t all the dinosaurs of “Jurassic Park” female to begin with? Nevermind, look how that turned out. He’s the D-Rex! More officially, he’s the Distortus Rex, an absolutely horrifying amalgamation of other dinosaur parts, featuring a massive, bulging cranium, four front arms (only two of which I could personally see in my screening of the film), and enough attitude to power a dozen (relatively) teeny little T-Rex.
But the emphasis here is on the horrifying. Not the terrifying or the scary or frightening, the horrifying. I don’t fear the D-Rex. I pity him. I want him to be left alone. And, perhaps most crucially: I don’t want to look at him.

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the ending of "Jurassic World Rebirth."
Not to poke a hole in the mythical allure of the Hollywood blockbuster and let all the air out of the balloon, but big-budget movies tend to be in a constant state of flux. Marvel movies have become notorious for this very thing, oftentimes entering production without a finished screenplay and undergoing all sorts of on-the-fly adjustments even after filming has come to a close. "Star Wars" has encountered something very similar, most infamously with the making of 2016's "Rogue One" and the numerous reports of behind-the-scenes turmoil. This trend has even befallen the "Jurassic" movies before, as the original script for "Jurassic Park III" was essentially thrown out the window weeks before principal photography commenced and overhauled at the last possible minute.
With "Jurassic World Rebirth," the hiring of Gareth Edwards as director brings this full circle.

Batman fans, and even casual movie-goers have surely fantasized about having their own Batmobile. Which live-action Batmobile you prefer will likely come down to the era in which you grew up (I will one day achieve my childhood dream of building my own version of the Tim Burton-era Batmobile). But if you happened to have come of age during the time when Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy was dominating the box office, you're likely more inclined towards the beast of a Batmobile known as the Tumbler. If so, and if you happen to have a few million dollars laying around, you can now buy a replica of that iconic screen vehicle from none other than Wayne Enterprises itself.
In 1989, Tim Burton and Warner Bros. unveiled "Batman" and as well as inducing a nationwide "Bat-mania" and re-establishing the character as a brooding vigilante, the film redefined the Batmobile in the public consciousness.

What if E.T. was less cute and cuddly, and instead resembled a razor-jawed H.R. Giger creature from Alien? And what if that alien's appetites tended more towards living flesh than delicious Reese's Pieces? Those questions are asked and answered in the new Collider-exclusive trailer for Xeno, a new science fiction adventure film starring Lulu Wilson. It's a heartfelt story of a girl and her gruesome alien pal like no other. Xeno will hit theaters on September 19.
In the new trailer, Wilson is Renee Rowan, a teenage girl who has an affinity for unlovable creatures, as evidenced by the snake living in her terrarium. But that affinity is going to be put to the test when she meets Xeno, a snarling quadropedal alien beast with a taste for livestock. Nevertheless, the two form a bond, which becomes a big problem when an alien-hunting government task force led by Jonathan Keyes...

Bryce Dallas Howard thinks “the door is always open” for her to return to the Jurassic World series. The 44-year-old actress starred alongside Chris Pratt as Claire Dearing in the Jurassic World trilogy from the 2015 eponymous flick until 2022’s Jurassic World: Dominion, and with the franchise set for a soft reboot in July with Jurassic World: Rebirth, Howard has insisted she could come back to the series at some point in the future.Speaking with Screen Rant, she said: “I think that the door is always open. “It was so cool with Dominion getting to have the legacy cast back and working in the franchise. But the most important thing is that this is a story about dinosaurs and what if dinosaurs and human beings coexisted? It is not about a specific set of characters. “So, for myself as a fan, I am so excited for Jurassic World: Rebirth. I'm...

For over 30 of our Earth years now, the alien Xenomorphs and predatory Yautja have had intergalactic beef. The extra-terrestrial rivalry of cinema’s lairiest lifeforms began in 1989 in a Dark Horse comic, while the following year’s big-screen Predator 2 upped the stakes by placing a phallic skull from H.R. Giger’s snarling beast in the dreadlocked hunter’s trophy cabinet. But when the two species finally came to blows cinematically – in 2004’s Alien vs. Predator, and 2007’s Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem – that potential never quite came to fruition. (Paul W.S. Anderson’s film is trashy fun; the Brothers Strause’s follow-up widely derided. Neither are considered canon.)
But, do you hear that? The sound of space-dreadlocks brushing up against acid blood? It might not just be you. There are signs that ‘Alien vs. Predator’ may, indeed, be back – and not just on the horizon, but already here. Evidence is...

2025 really is a great year for "Predator" fans. Not only are we set to see another live-action instalment from Dan Trachtenberg with "Predator: Badlands" but the "Prey" director has casually dropped an animated film that's unquestionably one for the history books (co-directed by Joshua Wassung).
Throwing less of a curveball and more of a killer frisbee at the franchise, "Predator: Killer of Killers" tees up a compelling anthology to begin with, only for it to surprise us in its final act and reveal we've been watching one story that spans centuries. Breaking through the language barrier and anything else that the Yautja throw at them, our hunted heroes unite in a final battle that is as awesome as everything we've seen in the time-shifting tale so far, and sets the bar not just for the franchise that started all the way back in 1987, but another breed of space beasts that...

After the latest release, Jurassic World Rebirth has wasted no time in revealing the first popcorn bucket from the upcoming Jurassic Park sequel. The film, directed by Gareth Edwards (The Creator), leans into the horror aspects of the franchise. However, we doubt fans thought this would extend to the popcorn buckets, which Regal just announced earlier today.
Regal Cinemas has revealed their "Incubate Dual Container" popcorn bucket for Jurassic World Rebirth, and it's exactly how it sounds. The container carries popcorn and a small, unborn dinosaur, which might seem cute at first glance, but it could get quite creepy in a pitch-black theater setting. The Alien vibes are off the charts, especially after the new trailer revealed that mutated dinosaur rejects exist in Jurassic World. Check out the popcorn bucket below:

Universal Pictures has unleashed the epic final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth (via SFFGazette.com). Those of you eager for the franchise to shift from over-the-top action back to the sort of tense, horror-inspired moments seen in the early movies will no doubt love what you see here.
With the story set on a new island, the spotlight shifts to the monstrous, mutant dinosaurs deemed too dangerous for the defunct "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic World" theme parks.
This sneak peek reveals a first look at a Mutadon previously described as a cross between a pterosaur and a raptor, a nightmare-inducing combination that's sure to cause our heroes some serious problems. The iconic T-rex is also back, but it's the grotesque Distortus Rex that will serve as Jurassic World Rebirth's "big bad."
Previously, that's been described as a cross between a T-rex, Rancor, and Xenomorph, making it the deadliest creature on the planet.

Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards has compared Scarlett Johansson's character to one of the most beloved figures from the original Jurassic Park. Johansson leads the latest installment of the Jurassic World franchise as covert ops soldier Zora Bennett.
The filmmaker opened up about the creation of Zora Bennett while speaking to Entertainment Weekly, as he confirmed that he initially conceived that the character could be male or female. Once Johansson came on board, Edwards and screenwriter David Koepp started seeing Zora as Rebirth's equivalent to Sam Neill's Dr. Alan Grant from Jurassic Park.
Jurassic World Rebirth Director Offers New Details on Scarlett Johansson's Character
"Scarlett's character probably does share a little bit with Sam Neill in terms of the adventure side," Edwards said. "She's got this backstory. I don't want to ruin it for people, but I was half waiting for the studio to cut these scenes out.

Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards and screenwriter David Koepp tease the arrival of two new mutant dinosaurs in the upcoming film. Serving as a soft reboot for the franchise after Jurassic World Dominion (2022), the new installment stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, the leader of a mission into Earth's dino-heavy equatorial regions to recover valuable DNA for a medical breakthrough. As teased in Jurassic World Rebirth trailers, the film will introduce several new dinosaurs into the mix, including a monstrous beast that was bred in a lab.

Jurassic World Rebirth promises to take the beloved franchise back to its roots with an island setting and plenty of fan-favourite dinosaurs. Among them are the Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Dilophosaurus, and the long-awaited return of Jurassic Park III's Spinosaurus.
However, filmmaker Gareth Edwards will also lean into the franchise's horror roots with mutant dinosaurs created on a third island by InGen's most twisted scientists.
Among them will be the Distortus Rex, or "D-Rex." Talking to Empire Online (via SFFGazette.com), Edwards teased, "It’s kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger, and then that whole thing had sex with a Rancor."
"It’s a design that I was really happy with," the director said of the six-limbed creature. "I'd like to buy the toy of it when it comes out."

There’s a new entry in the Jurassic Park / Jurassic World franchise heading our way, with Jurassic World Rebirth set to reach theatres on July 2, 2025 – and when this one plays out on the big screen, it will be introducing viewers to creatures known as Mutadons and the D-Rex. Like the recent trilogy, Jurassic World Rebirth will keep up the tradition of introducing a brand-new dinosaur that rivals the classic T-Rex in scale. This time, audiences will be introduced to a truly monstrous creature that will be a trip to look at, and absolutely terrifying for those who embark on the journey to an abandoned research facility in Jurassic World Rebirth.
During an interview with Empire Magazine, Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards discussed the introduction of the Distortus Rex, also known as the "D-Rex." Described as a dinosaur with six limbs and "teeth galore," the D-Rex is a mishmash of DNA and presumably failed experiments. Jurassic World Rebirth is coming to theaters on July 2, 2025. With a 134-minute confirmed runtime, Rebirth will feature a star-filled cast and a story that is supposedly set to take us back to the roots of the franchise.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, the movie is projected to be a solid hit based on the trailers, as many fans have praised the content shown there and believe that this movie will feel more like the original trilogy and Crichton’s book.
One of the novelties introduced to the trailer was a new, hybrid species of dinosaur, something taken from the pages of the books and something that wasn’t prominently featured in the previous movies. Now, Edwards decided to reveal more.

After being glimpsed in the trailers for Jurassic World Rebirth, director Gareth Edwards is ready to introduce the world to the franchise's newest hybrid dinosaur. So, step aside, Indominus rex, it's time to make way for the Distortus Rex, or the D-Rex for short.
While speaking with Empire about the new Jurassic, Edwards shared his slightly uncomfortable theory about how the Distortus Rex was created, suggesting that a T-Rex designed by biomechanical artist H.R. Giger "had sex with a Rancor," the large, reptilian creature from the Star Wars universe. The resulting hybrid dinosaur possesses six limbs, more teeth than one could count, and a ravenous appetite, the last of which will surely prove trouble for Scarlett Johannsson's Zora and her team. "It’s a design that I was really happy with," added Edwards. "I’d like to buy the toy of it when it comes out."

There’s a new apex predator coming to the Jurassic franchise — and this one looks like it crawled out of a nightmare. In Jurassic World Rebirth, director Gareth Edwards isn’t just reviving the classic dino terror that fans know and love. He’s warping it. Twisting it. Mutating it. Say hello (or run away screaming) from the Distortus Rex — aka the D-Rex. Sounds a bit like a special way of watching a movie. "See it now, only in D-Rex". Anyway, we digress.

The Jurassic World franchise has been messing with dino DNA to create some brand new hybrid nightmares in recent years, with Jurassic World unleashing the Indominus Rex and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom introducing the Indoraptor. When Jurassic World Rebirth hits the big screen, it’ll be packed with prehistoric favourites. Yes, the T-Rex is here. So is the Dilophosaurus. Even Jurassic Park III’s Spinosaurus is back on the scene. But the DNA-collecting expedition into dino-infested territory – led by Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett, Jonathan Bailey’s Henry Loomis, and Mahershala Ali’s Duncan Kincaid – will bring fresh horrors too. Set not on Isla Nublar, nor Isla Sorna, but a third site where InGen’s most egregious genetic meddling went down, Rebirth will introduce all-new unholy oddities. Make way for Distortus Rex, or the ‘D-Rex’.

Gareth Edwards doesn't "feel guilty" about a 'Jaws' reference in 'Jurassic World Rebirth' because it was approved by Steven Spielberg. The moviemaker has taken the helm of the dinosaur franchise for the seventh film which comes 32 years after Spielberg directed 'Jurassic Park' - based on the book of the same name by Michael Crichton - and the latest movie features a scene taken from the original book in which a dinosaur stalked a group of people on a raft from the water and Edwards admits it seems like a nod to Spielberg's shark classic 'Jaws'.He told Empire magazine: "You can’t put a fin in the water and have it be a threat to people on a boat without thinking of a particular film ['Jaws']."And I would feel really guilty about this, except for the fact that the screenplay was given to me by Steven Spielberg.

Universal Pictures didn't waste a lot of time reviving the "Jurassic" franchise following the release of 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion," which was billed as something of a conclusion at the time. While that may have finished a trilogy, we are indeed getting more dinosaurs on the big screen. This summer will see the release of director Gareth Edwards' "Jurassic World Rebirth," which will feature new dinosaurs in a new location with entirely new characters. And now we know just a little bit more about one key dino in the movie ... and it raises some questions.
The folks at Empire Magazine recently revealed two different covers for the latest issue, both of which are focused on "Jurassic World Rebirth." One of them features Scarlett Johansson's Zora Bennett, while the other features an artistic rendering by Tim McDonagh of the mysterious mutant dinosaur that was featured in the first "Rebirth" trailer.

To mark Alien Day, we head back to the late 1970s to see how Hr Giger designed the Space Jockey – and its strange fate after the film’s premiere…
In the early hours of Tuesday, the 29th May 1979, someone killed the Space Jockey. Burned it alive, perhaps with a blowtorch or something more mundane like a match or a cigarette. The crime occurred four days after the premiere of Alien at Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, and was reported on by at least one outlet at the time: sci-fi magazine, Starlog.
“The Los Angeles opening of Alien was marked by misfortune when a miniature version of the film’s ‘starpilot’ was destroyed with fire,” the news story ran, garbling the Space Jockey’s name somewhat. “It was set ablaze by vandals just hours after being placed on display in the forecourt of Hollywood’s Egyptian Theatre. A magazine article from 1979 reveals that an Alien prequel, “telling the tale of the space jockey” was first discussed over 45 years ago.
After a lengthy absence, director Ridley Scott finally returned to the Alien series with Prometheus. A prequel to Scott’s 1979 original, it rather controversially explored the origins of the space jockey – the nickname given to the long-dead, humanoid creature so memorably glimpsed in the first film.
Remarkably, though, the idea of making a prequel is almost as old as Alien itself. When the first film became a major box office success at the end of the 1970s, studio 20th Century Fox immediately made plans for a sequel – what eventually became Aliens, directed by James Cameron and released in 1986.
As an article in a 1979 magazine makes plain, however, a number of concepts and ideas were being batted around at Fox in the months after Alien’s release. Many of...

To do a little fun sci-fi time-crunching, Ridley Scott's 1979 film "Alien" takes place in the year 2122, which was, by the "Star Trek" timeline, about 30 years before the events of "Star Trek: Enterprise." James Cameron's "Aliens" skips ahead to 2179, about 25 years after "Enterprise," but still about 75 years before anything from the original "Star Trek" series. Jean-Pierre Jeunet's "Alien: Resurrection" skips ahead again, this time to the year 2379, which was the same year "Star Trek: Nemesis" took place.
Of course, the "Alien" movies and the "Star Trek" shows definitely take place in separate universes. The "Alien" movies are marked by their cynicism, usually depicting shifty, profit-driven company men who aim to retrieve alien xenomorphs for nefarious purposes, no matter the human cost the retrieval requires. "Star Trek," meanwhile, is marked by its optimism, depicting a future wherein a galactic Federation ensures peace, study, and diplomacy throughout the cosmos. One...

The 1995 hit Species is getting a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray physical media release in the UK this June. More details here.
Just recently on this very site, we were digging into the behind the scenes story of 1995’s hit Species. Starring Natasha Henstridge Sir Ben Kingsley and Michael Madsen – and it was Henstridge’s feature debut – the film also posted some superb creature designs from the legendary H R Giger. Roger Donaldson directed, and MGM had both a hit movie, and a chance to spit out a sequel or two.
The original film though has now been selected for a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release, with 88 Films picking up the UK rights to the movie. It’s going to be releasing a deluxe dual format release – that thus includes a Blu-ray as well – on 23rd June 2025. It’s unclear as of yet whether there’s going to be much in...

Every Batman movie has a "thing." Tim Burton's 1989 "Batman" created a blueprint for future superhero films. His follow-up, "Batman Returns," saw Burton usher in the franchise era by letting his freak flag fly, upsetting parents and McDonald's board members, who'd plastered Danny DeVito's grotesque Penguin across their Happy Meals, in the process. 1997's "Batman & Robin" is remembered for nearly killing the franchise entirely, while Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy is remembered for reinvigorating the character for a new generation. In 2022, Matt Reeves proved that there was simply no end to the ways in which Batman could be reinvented, delivering a darker take on the character that provided a welcome antidote to the CGI-fests being pumped out by Marvel.
But 1995's "Batman Forever" sort of falls between the cracks. An often-overlooked entry in the saga, Joel Schumacher's first Batman movie was a big deal when it first debuted,...

The first trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth was released earlier this week but Universal Pictures still unleashed dinosaurs on the Super Bowl with an epic minute-long "Big Game" TV spot.
If you caught the aforementioned sneak peek, much of the footage here will be familiar to you. However, we do see more of this team interacting and new glimpses of the dinosaurs they'll be forced to contend with (including the Rancor-like creature that's making this feel more like a horror movie than the expected action-adventure).
"These are the dinosaurs that didn’t work. There’s some mutations in there," longtime franchise producer Frank Marshall said of the dinosaurs deemed too dangerous for the original Jurassic Park. "They’re all based on real dinosaur research, but they look a little different."
Filmmaker Gareth Edwards teased, "When you make a creature, you get a big, massive pot and you pour in your...
