Alan Wake 2 Director Sam Lake Admitted He Would Have Thought Twice Before Making Himself The Face of Max Payne Had He Known the Franchise Would Become So Huge
Image
It’s a pretty well-known story about how Sam Lake, Remedy Entertainment’s primary creative powerhouse, first entered the world of game development. Back then, little could the man have ever predicted that his own face would become one of the most iconic in video game history.

It’s difficult to image a world in which people would look at Sam Lake and not yell, “It’s Payne, whack ‘im!”

That’s what happened with Max Payne’s instant success back in 2001. Overnight, Payne, and by extension Lake, became the face of gritty, neo-noir storytelling in gaming. Fascinatingly, though, Lake has admitted in recent times that if he knew just how big his game would become, he may have stopped to think twice before lending his handsome mug to the character.

Sam Lake May Have Taken a Pause Before Using His Face for Max Payne Sam Lake’s return as...

Witchboard 2 and 3 Blu-ray releases postponed indefinitely
Image
Update: Since revealing that the Witchboard 2 Blu-ray release was postponed indefinitely, Kevin S. Tenney also took to his Facebook account to confirm that a Blu-ray release for the 1995 film Witchboard III: The Possession is caught in the same sad situation. In fact, it’s even sadder that a Blu-ray release of Witchboard III has been postponed indefinitely, because this would have been the first time the movie was ever released on Blu-ray. This one would have featured an on-camera interview with lead actress Elizabeth Lambert, who was credited on the film as Locky Lambert. These Blu-rays were meant to be part of a Witchboard Blu-ray bundle, much like the Night of the Demons Blu-ray bundle that was released by Scream Factory a while back. Hopefully we’ll get to see this release happen someday… but for now, we can only wait and hope.

Tenney wrote Witchboard III: The Possession...

Cynthia Nixon Reveals The Disgusting Sex Scene That Was Cut From ‘Sex And The City’
Image
There was one sex scene that was a bit too gross to make it on to “Sex and the City”.

Cynthia Nixon chatted to Andy Cohen on Thursday’s “Watch What Happens Live”, telling him how one scene involving her character Miranda Hobbes and a detective was cut.

Nixon recalled, “Miranda dated a really hot detective who she was very intimidated [by,] and thought he was really out of her league, so she got wildly drunk.

“They didn’t cut that plot, but they cut the sex scene where she’s really, really drunk and then vomits all over him.”

The scene that did make the cut played out in the season 3 episode “What Goes Around Comes Around”, which saw Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) get mugged.

‘Bunker: Project 12′ Review
Stars: James Cosmo, Joaquín Sánchez, Natasha Alam, Eric Roberts, Timothy Gibbs, Tony Corvillo, James Conner Ferguson, José Luis de Madariaga | Written by Joaquín Sánchez, Jaime Falero | Directed by Jaime Falero

Released way back in 2016 here in the UK, Bunker: Project 12 was, at the time, billed as “Outpost meets The Terminator” which is actually rather apt… Bizarre scientific experiments taking place during times of war, ala Outpost and its Nazi zombies; and cyborg killing machines ala The Terminator. Because Bunker: Project 12 touches on both of those.

You see the back story goes that the Russians were working on a secret project to win the Cold War, an army of cyborg super-soldiers – the titular Project 12 – however realising the dangers of unleashing their creation on the world they scrap the dangerous scientific project and bury it forever in the “bunker” of the title. But… Cut to present day and greedy-ass businessman...

Game Of Thrones' James Cosmo for spy-thriller series Magnum Opus
Game Of Thrones star James Cosmo is to star in upcoming spy-thriller series Magnum Opus.

The actor, who plays Jeor Mormont on the HBO series Game Of Thrones, will be joined by Jamie Anderson (The Contract) and Sam Douglas (Snatch) on the project.

Timothy Gibbs is to star, co-direct, co-write and produce the series, which has been picked up by London-based production company Carnaby International.

The television series will focus on a CIA operative's fight for justice following the 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 bombing in Lockerbie that killed his parents.

Speaking to Variety about the project, Gibbs said: "This is a genuinely independently-produced TV series.

Tasting Menu | Review
Finger Food: Gaul’s Latest Effort Staunchly Unappetizing

Spanish filmmaker Roger Gaul (known for his 2002 debut, the co-directed Smoking Room) returns with this Irish co-produced venture, Tasting Menu, its cast dictated primarily by geographic funding. Utilizing the banal workings of several intersecting storylines over the course of one evening, this petit bourgeois offering is as unabashedly pretentious as it is stilted, attempting to jackdaw cinematic magic via food porn and various romantic clichés. Several notable cast members are as poorly served as their lesser known counterparts, an ensemble that can’t ever emulsify as neatly as Javier Clavo’s screenplay so desperately wants it to.

Chef Mar (Vicenta N’Dongo) is a reluctant celebrity in her realm, owner of a highly successful restaurant that seats only thirty and is booked for months in advance. However, after finding herself in a creative rut, she decides to close the restaurant, much to...

The National Geographic Channel announced today it is no longer moving forward with a scripted TV series based on the 2012 action film Act of Valor. Here's what the network had to say in a brief statement.

"Ngc is unfortunately not moving forward with Act of Valor in favor of other scripted projects we have under consideration that will be announced soon."

The series was first announced in September 2012, when Relativity Media and the Bandito Brothers production company revealed they were developing the movie for the small screen. National Geographic Channel gave the series a green light in October, although creative differences reportedly arose between Relativity and the Bandito Brothers.

The network had a formalized deal in place with Relativity, but the studio had no formal agreement with the Bandito Brothers. In the months that followed, the network, studio and production company all had differing ideas of how the show should be crafted.

Relativity Media and the Bandito Brothers are teaming up again for a sequel to the 2012 hit Act of Valor. Scott Wiper (The Condemned, The Marine 3: Homefront) has signed on to write and direct the follow-up, which will focus on a unit of S.W.A.T. officers. No further story details were released.

The first Act of Valor starred active-duty Navy S.E.A.L. members in a fictionalized account of a real operation. It isn't known if the plan is to bring in actual S.W.A.T. team members to star in this follow-up, but given the success of the original movie, that will likely be the case. Directed by two of the eight Bandito Brothers partners Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh (Need for Speed), Act of Valor took in $81 million worldwide from just a $12 million production budget.

We reported in September that Relativity is developing a...

Del Toro Goes the Transformers Way? Watch New Trailer About Death Along the Pacific
Pacific Rim Trailer: Jaegers fight Kaiju to save humankind from extinction — but should they bother? Michael Bay’s Transformers 5 (or 6 or 7, sorry, lost count) has a new trailer — er … scratch that. Let me start again: Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim has a new trailer. Before you check it out, remember that every similarity between del Toro’s Pacific Rim and Bay’s Transformers movies (and Matt Reeves’ Cloverfield and Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and Peter Berg’s Battleship and Gareth Edwards’ upcoming Godzilla remake and TV’s The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and …) is mere coincidence. After all, the Pacific Rim screenplay (credited to del Toro and Travis Beacham) is based on an "original story" — aka film treatment — penned by Beacham. Now, check out the Pacific Rim trailer below. Exclusive: Scott Waugh Talks Act of Valor Blu-ray
Scott Waugh
Director Scott Waugh discusses Act of Valor, available on Blu-ray and DVD June 5

I was recently invited to take part in a unique press event for Act of Valor, which debuts on Blu-ray and DVD June 5. I was told we would be heading to San Diego to participate in a SEALFit workout, which is essentially a much more intense version of crossfit. I figured it would be a simple demonstration. It was not, and frankly, I'm surprised I survived, but I'm definitely glad I did it.

I was easily the most out-of-shape person who participated in the workout, but even those who were in better shape than me had their asses kicked by this grueling hour, which instilled the fundamentals of teamwork, mental strength, and physical strength. Each team had to work together in drills such as doing unified sit-ups... with a huge log on top of our chests. The...

11-11-11 (2011)
Directed by: Darren Bousman

Written by: Darren Bousman

Starring: Timothy Gibbs, Michael Landes, Wendy Glenn

11-11-11, not to be confused with The Asylum's 11/11/11, is an odd duck. Mostly because it's terrible, but also because it takes the phrase "what the fuck?" to a whole new level. Don't get too excited, because you won't be saying "what the fuck?" in reference to some grotesque form of the devil's torture chamber; you'll be saying "what the fuck?" because nothing makes any fucking sense. It's an entire hour and 30 minutes of meaninglessness that leads up to more meaninglessness, sprinkled with some grains of stupid.

After the tragic death of his wife and child, famed American author Joseph Crone (Timothy Gibbs, the poor man's George Clooney) travels from the United States to Barcelona, Spain, to reunite with his estranged brother, Samuel, and dying father, Richard. However, fate has a different plan for Joseph...

Night Gallery: Season 3 DVD Available Now

The third and final season (1972–73) of Rod Serling’s underrated series finally comes to DVD. Season 3 (with episodes downsized to half an hour) is generally considered inferior to the first two years, but it still contains several classic episodes. Best of all, Jim Benson and Scott Skelton, co-authors of Rod Serling’s Night Gallery: An After-Hours Tour, helped put together a “lost” episode featuring four segments that were heavily altered for syndication. Guest stars this season include Mickey Rooney, Vincent Price, Burgess Meredith and gorgeous Joanna Pettet (The Evil).

Dread Central's Best and Worst of 2011
Well, folks, 2011 is officially in the can, and surprisingly it wasn't such a horrendous year. It was definitely better than 2010, which was a huge step up from the putrid 2009. We laughed, we applauded, we were left dumbstruck, and of course we were infuriated. Read on for our cheers and jeers!

Now, with a fresh movie-watching start before us, we're taking our usual yearly look back at the good, the bad, the Wtf, and everything in between.

And don't be lazy by just reading along! Get off of your asses and give us your lists in the comments section below. We wanna hear from you if only to compare notes. Lots and lots of notes.

Speaking of notes, the most common complaint we've heard over the years is that we don't have one definitive list representing Dread Central as a whole so for 2011 we dropped everyone's choices in the blender, hit puree,...

11-11-11 and Rehashing a Christian Mystique: A Movie Review
Director/writer: Darren Lynn Bousman (screenplay).

Cast: Timothy Gibbs, Michael Landes and Brendan Price.

The real 11-11-11 has come and gone with no globally reaching incident to report. Aside from that day also being the premiere for a movie to play on that auspicious number, director/writer Darren Lynn Bousman has other plans in mind. His idea is based on the assumption that as long as the calendar year is written in the two-digit format, he could create a tale of cosmic horror that centers on the life of an author, Joseph Crone (Timothy Gibbs).

This director turns the number into a marker for the incidents that has happened in Crone's life. His wife and child died on 11-11, his mother died giving birth to his brother, Samuel (Michael Landes) on 11-11 and even more recently, he was in car accident that happened with 11-11 as an anecdote. The...

Review: '11-11-11' Is A Well-Intentioned, But Poorly-Made Horror Throwback
If horror comes in cycles, than it’s clear director Darren Lynn Bousman wants to return to the past. He made a name for himself by directing three “Saw” installments, using that clout to helm the hammy “Repo! A Genetic Opera”, a rock opera throwback to “Phantom Of The Paradise” and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” He’s at it again with the gimmicky “11-11-11," a film with a shelf life beginning and ending today, and it works best for the nostalgic among us who regret that the masters of Italian gothic horror like Lucio Fulci and Lamberto Bava are either dead or working less consistently. Even the premise of “11-11-11” could be dated 1981. Timothy Gibbs plays best-selling horror novelist Joseph Crone. Crone doesn’t look like he’s had any sleep since the horrific death of his wife and child, and his constant nightmares reliving the incident...

11-11-11 (2011) Movie Review
Bestselling novelist Joseph Crone (Timothy Gibbs) is having a dickens of a time. Not all that long ago, a crazed fan burned down his house, killing his wife and young son in the process. Now Joe lives inside a creepy hotel room all by himself. Worse, he keeps having creepy nightmares about his wife and child’s death. Meanwhile, his brother Samuel (Michael Landes) calls with even more bad news — their father is dying. Joe flies back to the creepy family home in Spain, reunites with his estranged bro, meets the family’s religious housekeeper/nanny/busybody Anna, and runs afoul of creepy hooded figures that keep appearing to him around the family home. Meanwhile, his creepy dad refuses to die, and keeps creepily popping out of corners and shadows to freak poor Joe out, often muttering cryptic gibberish about saving little bro and such. Can this movie get any creepier?...
