One of the most highly anticipated shows making a comeback is The Pitt. Fortunately for fans, the wait won’t be too long. The Pitt season 2 is officially set to premiere on HBO Max in January 2026. But that’s not the only exciting news. The hit medical drama has just revealed its first new cast members for the upcoming season, promising fresh faces and new storylines ahead.
According to Deadline, The Pitt is expanding its cast for season 2 by adding four new recurring cast members. Charles Baker, Irene Choi, Laëtitia Hollard, and Lucas Iverson have all been cast in the medical drama's second installment. Each actor will portray a new character.
Baker will reportedly play Troy, an unhoused man who becomes a patient in the emergency department (Ed). Choi takes on the character of Joy, a knowledgeable third-year medical student who has strong boundaries and a deep understanding of medicine that often explores its darker,...

Like a defibrillator steadies an irregular heartbeat, so has HBO Max’s The Pitt jolted audiences and critics alike into confronting the pitfalls of the American healthcare system — and the fact that many stoic, deeply human practitioners keep the medicine pumping just long enough, day-in and day-out, amid dwindling resources and respect.
Created by R. Scott Gemmill and executive produced by director John Wells and star/writer Noah Wyle, the medical drama follows — hour-by-hour — the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s emergency department and its frontline workers over the course of a relentless 15-hour shift, as they navigate personal and professional crises. Tackling post-covid nursing shortages and anti-vax stances, inceldom and abortion rights, the series’ incisive exploration triages not just its ailing patients, but the sickness of a nation unable, or rather unwilling, to provide adequate care — a burden that must be shouldered by the likes of Shawn Hatosy’s fan-favorite Dr.

This was clearly not the reaction that Noah Wyle was expecting from his starring role on The Pitt. While appearing on a recent installment of The Jennifer Hudson Show, the eponymous host caught the actor off guard by blurting out, “I don’t want to get you blushing again, but the internet be crushing on you.” As Wyle’s face turned cherry red, Hudson began reading off social media comments like “thank you for setting unrealistic expectations about how hot my male doctors would be in my life” and “you got no business being that sexy.”
“Do you ever get used to that kind of attention?” asked Hudson.
While attempting to mask his rouged mug, Wyle could only laugh and shake his head.

The stunning Bryan Cranston, who has left audiences of pretty much all age groups baffled with his exceptional performances, is currently standing tall and proud of something other than his own masterpieces: His daughter, Taylor Dearder, who is currently riding high on the tides of success through her splendid work in The Pitt.
A 32-year-old actress who has earned some fairly praiseworthy credits under her name, Dearden is the Breaking Bad star’s daughter, and her performance in the recently concluded critically acclaimed medical drama TV series is being widely applauded. And Cranston, for one, couldn’t feel happier and prouder of his daughter’s success.

Before "The Pitt" debuted on HBO Max, Warner Bros. and the show's creators faced a lawsuit from Sherri Crichton, widow of "Jurassic Park" author Michael Crichton. The writer previously created "ER," which starred Noah Wyle as Dr. John Carter and was written and produced by R. Scott Gemmill alongside John Wells, who also served as its showrunner. These are the same men responsible for developing "The Pitt," and the Crichton estate wasn't exactly happy about them making what they saw as a blatant "ER" rip-off.
If you ask Wells, Wyle, and Gemmill, however, they had a very specific goal in mind with "The Pitt" — one which clearly separates the show from "ER." As Wyle told Variety, "Our intent with 'The Pitt' is to examine and contribute to the public discussion on the challenges facing emergency medical providers in the post-covid world." In the series, we see this represented through Wyle's character,...

"That's the Whole Idea": ‘The Pitt’ Producer Reveals If the Show Will Leave the Hospital in Season 2
The first season of Max's first original medical drama, The Pitt, turned out to be an incredibly successful one, and it's fair to say that audiences can't wait to return to the ER for yet another season. Max will deliver on a second season early next year and the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center will return with ER veteran Noah Wyle at the helm as Dr. Robby. Much of the medical drama's first season saw the action play out within the confines of the hospital as the show takes place in real time. Each episode covers an hour of the one shift shown across the season with very few sightings of the hospital staff outside the hospital. So, will that change in Season 2? Will audiences get to follow staff home in the sophomore season?
Some members of staff had to depart the hospital at various points during the first season.

The following contains major spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2.Horror series The Last of Usrecently ended its second season, effectively dividing worldwide audience for a variety of reasons. Those who managed to stay until the end faced a cliffhanger conclusion that left questions unanswered. They also had the bittersweet aftertaste one gets when a fan-favorite series ends, and you have nothing to do but wait a few years until it returns. One of the most controversial narrative decisions has to do with – Spoiler Alert – the death of Season 1's central character, Joel. As necessary as it was to follow the original story from the video game franchise, many fans of the show were left dumbstruck. And according to showrunner Craig Mazin, some have taken their love for the show a little bit too far.

There's not exactly a dearth of medical dramas, which makes the success of HBO Max's "The Pitt" all the more impressive. How do you set yourself apart in such a saturated market? Well, it turns out the answer is just to show people what it's actually like to be a doctor. Turns out the "drama" part of the medical drama is ready-made, especially when it comes to emergency medicine. With "The Pitt," show creator R. Scott Gemmill and his fellow "ER" alums John Wells and Noah Wyle set out to showcase that drama in as realistic a way as possible, knowing that the profession itself provided more than enough conflict, tragedy, and intrigue.
After it debuted in January 2025, "The Pitt" was immediately praised for its remarkable medical accuracy. It helps that "The Pitt" has a secret weapon in the form of a medical advisor who never let the cast and...

Due to the format of The Pitt, we only very briefly saw any of the hospital staff outside of the hospital during its first season. The hit HBO Max medical drama takes place in real time, with each episode covering an hour of the one shift shown across the season. The finale did see Robby (Noah Wyle), Abbot (Shawn Hatosy), Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), Javadi (Shabana Azeez), and other members of the staff gather in the park across the street from the hospital for a post-shift beer. It also followed King (Taylor Dearden) as she picked up her sister. But executive producers R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells don’t see the show ever going home with the characters or leaving the hospital in a significant way. “I don’t think we’ll ever go home with our characters,” Gemmill told TV Insider during Season 1. “I think what makes this show...

Without "ER" (one of the best medical shows ever), there would be no "The Pitt" today. Essentially the love child of three people — R. Scott Gemmill, Noah Wyle, and John Wells — who worked together on the former decades ago, HBO Max's drama has become the latest TV sensation in the medical genre. It's also not a coincidence that Wyle, who played Dr. John Carter on "ER" (one of the series' most intriguing and nuanced characters), was chosen to lead "The Pitt" as Dr. Robby, a senior attending physician of the emergency room in a Philadelphia hospital.
Playing Carter for over 15 years, Wyle became a TV doctor (and empath) that viewers trusted. If you haven't seen "ER" in a while, it's easy to forget how layered, humanly written, and likable Carter was from the beginning. No, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann didn’t kill Pedro Pascal. That was just one key messaging point delivered during Variety‘s A Night in the Writers’ Room on Thursday night.
Although this was the drama panel, many hilarious conversations came out of the discussion moderated by Variety‘s senior TV features editor Emily Longeretta. In addition to “The Last of Us” creators, panelists included “Severance” creator Dan Erickson, “Paradise” creator Dan Fogelman, “The Pitt” creator R. Scott Gemmill, “Doc” creator Barbie Kligman, “Yellowjackets” co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and “Cross” creator Ben Watkins.
While discussing the pressures of following a stellar first season with a second one — Mazin and Druckmann shed light on the ups and downs.
“There’s this thing that happens when you’re making the first season of something where you truly are just rolling down a hill on fire. If you stay alive, that’s a huge achievement.

2025's excellent medical drama, The Pitt, has proved to be an impactful show that revitalized the genre's popularity beyond expectations. It was realistic and raw in how it mirrors the experience of real-life healthcare workers. It was also an emotional ride with compelling characters who kept us hooked for weeks on their 15-hour shift at the ER of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. All the performances were staggering, but it was Noah Wyle's which stood out the most. His performance as Dr. Michael Robinavitch, a.k.a. Robby is one of the year's best, and his co-star in the classic show ER, Hollywood (and now Broadway) legend George Clooney, agrees with this.
As reported by TV Insider, the O Brother, Where Art Thou? and From Dusk Till Dawn star appeared on the show Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote his current Broadway hit, Good Night, and Good Luck.

Yes, George Clooney has seen The Pitt and he loves it. During an appearance on Monday’s Late Night With Seth Meyers, Clooney sang the praises of his former ER co-star Noah Wyle’s new medical drama.
“It’s so good, and I have to say: We’ve been really dear friends since [ER] — since we did the pilot of the show,” the Oscar winner told the chat show host. “He is just the most honorable, talented young man, [which] I get to say because I’m an old man, and I cannot be happier for his success on the show. The show is just a beautiful show, and he does just a great job with it.” Clooney and Wyle worked together on ER for five seasons before Clooney left to focus on his film career.

The 2024-2025 TV season has ended and, for everyone who kept pace, it was an enthralling one, with networks dishing out new seasons of our favorite shows. Some new shows were introduced and made quite a splash in the pool. Max's first original medical drama, The Pitt, enjoyed a successful first season. The series' lead role of Dr. Robby was ER veteran Noah Wyle, who is supported by an ensemble of stars who perfectly fill out the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center while curating memorable moments onscreen. One of those is Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball).
By the time the season finale of The Pitt had aired, there were several questions up in the air, including whether certain characters would be returning for a second season. It's funny to think that, with how many medical dramas exist, all anyone had to do to stand out was to just show audiences what being a doctor is actually like. HBO Max's hit series "The Pitt" has been praised as one of the most accurate medical dramas ever made, with the show proving to be a huge success among general audiences and real doctors alike. The secret, it seems, was to make the show as realistic as possible. Not only does "The Pitt" make a point of not using music at all, but the cast of "The Pitt" is mostly up-and-coming actors without much of a public profile. A naturalistic, handheld filming style heightens the sense of realism, as does the production design, which is so good you might well be convinced the series was shot in a real hospital.

Panels for shows like ‘House of the Dragon’ and others are launching on Max as it prepares its campaign to sway Emmy voters.

Discovery is bringing back those panels in 2025, as announced on Tuesday.

It was a big night for television, as Emmy favorites descended upon Cipriani Wall Street in New York City for the second annual Gotham TV Awards. With The Pitt cast and crew getting ready to get back to work on the hit HBO Max show — director Damian Marcano told TV Insider they’re getting going soon — there are several questions up in the air, including whether or not some characters, including Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), will be back. Based on what we learned from executive producers R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells after the Season 1 finale (and the embedded post below from him about the Season 2 premiere script), he will and Season 2 could be a major shift for him. In the middle of Season 1, Gemmill told us that they were thinking of having the next shift be Langdon’s first back after rehab. It was in Episode 10 that Robby (Noah Wyle) discovered that his resident was an addict and had been stealing pills. He sent him home, only for Langdon to return to help out during...

Undoubtedly, creator Dan Erickson's "Severance" was able to capture audiences quickly when the show premiered in 2022 because of its sprawling mystery. First and foremost, the series' premise and plot presented a thrilling and virtually indecipherable enigma that was, at the least, matching the sensation that "Lost" created almost two decades before it. But just like in J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof's classic, we also fell in love with the show because it gave us intriguing, funny, and relatable characters to watch and root for week by week. As much as it was addictive to speculate what Lumon's purpose and ultimate evil plan were, it's also been crucial that we could do that alongside likable and charming characters we inevitably grew close to in the debut season and its follow-up.

The Pitt is one of the hottest new shows on television. Set in a busy emergency room in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the show is set in real time as the doctors and nurses of the ER live out each hour of their shift. The series throws ER vet Noah Wyleback into the doctor's coat and it has been the talk of the town – including the cast all joining together to talk about the HBO Max series at a panel at Warner Bros. Studios in California, moderated by journalist Emily Longeretta. And one thing they addressed on the panel was a fear many shows have: What if Season 2 isn't as captivating as the first?
During the panel, series creator R. Scott Gemmill spoke about how there was a fear over Season 2 not living up to expectations. “You don't want the sophomore curse.” Gemmill shared that the first season was a unique experience...

Even if you haven't seen "The Pitt," chances are you've heard about what has been praised as one of the most accurate medical dramas ever made. Created by "ER" producer R. Scott Gemmill alongside former star Noah Wyle and producer John Wells, "The Pitt" season 1 depicted a full 12-hour shift in the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, with each episode representing an hour of that shift. The fact that the show doesn't use music at all and "The Pitt" cast are mostly younger, lesser-known actors also contributes to the realism. But the show wasn't envisioned simply as a way to depict emergency medicine in as realistic a way as possible.
During the press tour for the HBO Max series, Wyle has spoken widely about how there was a new story to tell when it came to medical professionals. Not only were emergency doctors already working under immense pressure, they had just endured the global pandemic,...

"The Pitt" is, for the most part, a pretty grounded (and medically accurate) show. The HBO Max original, which is not a spin-off of "ER" and began its run in January 2025, takes place "in real time," meaning that the first season's 15-episode run takes place over 15 hours of an emergency room shift led by Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch. During a recent panel, though (via Vulture), Wyle and his collaborator R. Scott Gemmill, who serves as showrunner, said they considered something sort of out-of-pocket for season 2.
Though Gemmill said that the show has "only begun to scratch the surface" of Dr. Robby and his colleagues, the real-time conceit means they don't have to employ dumb tropes like "evil twin" or "weather machine." Wyle, though, corrected his colleague, saying Gemmill did "pitch evil twin, technically." How?

The Pitt became a streaming sensation. It gave television watchers a no-holds-barred look at the life and tragedy of an emergency room, and captivated them with strong and relatable characters going through the worst day of their lives. So what's next?
The Pitt Season 2 is on the way, and series star Noah Wyle is feeling under pressure. He and series creator R. Scott Gemmill told People about the ins and outs of creating The Pitt Season 2. They were determined to avoid what Gemmill called the "sophomore curse."
Defeating the "sophomore curse" when the stakes are so high isn't an easy feat. Gemmill gave himself some time to muse on what made the first season so great. “We were unusual in our first season in the sense that we shot, we had been shooting before the show aired, so we were just having this little fun in our little bubble over on stage,...

The Pitt gave a shot of adrenaline to FYC season on Wednesday with a special set visit for Emmy voters, followed by a screening of the Season 1 finale and a panel with Noah Wyle (Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch and an executive producer), Shabana Azeez (Victoria Javadi), Fiona Dourif (Dr. Cassie McKay), Katherine Lanasa (Nurse Dana Evans), Tracy Ifeachor (Dr. Heather Collins), Isa Briones (Dr. Trinity Santos), Gerran Howell (Dennis Whitaker), R. Scott Gemmill, and John Wells (executive producer).
During the group Q&a, it was confirmed that Season 2 begins filming "next month" on the Warner Bros. lot. While the cast and producers couldn't speak much about the new episodes, Wyle did tease the plot with 12 words: "Fourth of July. 250th anniversary of America. Big holiday weekend. Busy shift." Hmm, let the fan theories commence!
Gemmill joked that, for Season 2, he pitched an "evil twin" reveal at a "furry convention" in Pittsburgh during Independence Day.

Amanda Marsalis is the first to admit she wasn't sure if she was right for The Pitt when the project came the director's way.
"I was told, 'Oh, it's a medical drama from John Wells.' I was like, 'Oh, really, Ok.' I didn't think of it as my thing. And I say that with humility," Marsalis tells Gold Derby. "It's not that I'm a snob. I just thought of it as a some type of thing that maybe wasn't my type of thing. And I was wrong. I read it and was like, 'Oh, this is good.'"
Part of that was the show's real-time format, with each episode depicting one hour of a 15-hour shift, dropping viewers deep into the thick of the ER as cases and stress escalate. I recently started watching Tina Fey’s 30 Rock reunion enterprise The Four Seasons with the lowest of expectations.
The Netflix show has Fey bringing many of her writers from the Tgs days to revive an Alan Alda movie from her youth, with buddies like Will Forte and Steve Carell along for the ride. Reviews were middling, the comedy writer goes dramatic trope is, well, a trope, and the whole thing smacked of an NBA veteran load-managing so he could keep cashing that paycheck.
Yet as I continued watching the show, it became clear that my fears were misplaced. Yes, The Four Seasons is a nostalgia exercise — sometimes literally, as when Alda himself shows up as a character’s father. But the Netflix show has plenty to say about midlife — that peculiar zone when you’ve accomplished so much but don’t know where to direct the energy to do...

It probably shouldn't come as a huge surprise that "The Pitt," a Max original that started its run on HBO and Discovery's proprietary streamer in January 2025 (prior to it being re-named HBO Max), turned out to be one of 2025's biggest hits. Structured like "24" — in that each episode encompasses a "real-time" hour and the 15 episodes in season 1 comprise a 15-hour shift in an overcrowded and chaotic Pittsburgh emergency room — and helmed by three major veterans of "ER," "The Pitt" has been hailed as both an excellent drama and a stunningly accurate medical series. Thankfully, season 2 is already confirmed as well.
With that said, what do we actually know so far about the sophomore season of "The Pitt" (which will be led once again by Noah Wyle's seasoned and experienced trauma attending Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch)? Quite a lot,...

HBO's The Pitt will be coming to more platforms, giving fans additional ways to watch the hit medical drama. Earlier this year, The Pitt offered audiences a new take on the doctor TV show format, providing an unflinching real-time look at an emergency room staff (led by Noah Wyle's Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch) from the mind of ER creative R. Scott Gemmill.
Warner Bros. (WB) announced plans to expand The Pitt's streaming exclusive release, bringing The Pitt to linear TV this fall. The new HBO series will jump to traditional cable for the first time, marking the latest streaming hit to undergo such a move in this modern streaming era.
WB revealed the news as a part of its 2025 upfront (via Variety), disclosing that the hit medical drama will make its TV debut later this year on TNT.
