Andrew Gaty was born in Budapest, Hungary, in September 1943 and in 1956 immigrated to Australia.

In 1969, he founded Seven Keys Group, which by 1975 became the largest independent motion picture distribution company in Australia. In 1975 Seven Keys out grossed every major Hollywood studio in Australia. Mr. Gaty was a special consultant to Sir Frank Packer, founder of the Nine Television Network and worked closely with Clyde Packer, then Kerry Packer, the subsequent chairman of the Nine Network. Among Seven Keys exclusive distribution deals were: Edgar Bronfman's Sagittarius, Sir Lew Grade's ITC, Roberts Stigwood's RSO, New Line Cinema, etc.

In 1977/8 Mr. Gaty served as a worldwide marketing consultant to 20th Century Fox, while remaining Chairman and CEO of Seven Keys.

On the international front, he was co-executive Producer with Robert Stigwood of the NBC television production of The Entertainer starring Jack Lemmon, Stunt Seven with Martin Poll for CBS, and was a consultant in Munich on Lili Marleen, directed by Rainer-Werner Fassbender and in London on the Who's Tommy, directed by Ken Russell.

As a theatrical impresario, he produced the Australian stage production of "The Last of the Red Hot Lovers" by Neil Simon. For television, he produced the Australian version of "All In the Family" for the Nine Network. He also produced two motion pictures in Australia: The Return of Captain Invincible, starring Alan Arkin and Christopher Lee, which he co-wrote with Steve De Souza ("Die Hard"), and Stanly starring Peter Bensley and Nell Campbell. The Guardian wrote: "The Return of Captain Invincible a cult Australian superhero flick starring Alan Arkin predated today's left-of-centre caped crusaders like Deadpool by a quarter of a century".

In 1985, Mr. Gaty sold the Seven Keys Group to the Perry Corporation and moved to New York, remaining as special consultant. In 1988 he set up AG Productions Limited and produced his first US production, Heart of Midnight starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Steve Buscemi, Brenda Vaccaasro and Peter Coyote, for MGM.

In 1994, he entered into a production agreement with Universal Pictures.

He is living in Tuscany, Italy with his wife.
