“Among the Best I’ve Been Part Of”: ’Reacher’s Alan Ritchson Hypes Up Action Movie ‘Runner’ With New Set Images
Image
Alan Ritchson has traded in stalking the backwater towns of Midwest America for the sun-soaked chaos of Queensland, Australia, as production races toward the finish line on Runner, an upcoming action thriller that pairs the Reacher star with none other than Owen Wilson. Yes, you read that right — it’s Jack Reacher and Hansel, together at last. Two blonde Adonises. The film, currently shooting in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, stars Ritchson as Hank Malone, a highly skilled courier entrusted with a life-or-death mission: deliver a vital organ across hostile terrain to save the life of a critically ill young girl. Naturally, things go very sideways, very fast, as shadowy forces emerge to sabotage the delivery. Think Crank meets Midnight Run with a bit more emotional stakes — and apparently, a lot more blood.

Ritchson took to Instagram today to share a reel of behind-the-scenes photos, including several shots of himself bloodied and bruised,...

Image
Runner is racing toward the finish line — but not without some off-camera drama. Industry Entertainment manager and producer Dan Spilo has been fired for cause from the upcoming indie action thriller, following an incident of alleged inappropriate behavior on set. According to multiple sources confirmed by Deadline, Spilo’s dismissal came after an Hr investigation into his conduct, which reportedly included bullying and yelling at crew members. At the same time, the film’s star Alan Ritchson — best known for playing Jack Reacher on Amazon Prime Video's smash hit Reacher — cut ties with Spilo as his manager. The decision came about a week ago, and sources say Spilo was quickly sent home from the Australian set, which is currently filming in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Dan Spilo Removed As Producer Of Indie Film ‘Runner’ & Dismissed As Manager Of Star Alan Ritchson After Incidents On Australian Set
Image
Industry Entertainment manager and producer Dan Spilo was fired for cause after at least one incident on the Australian set of the indie action thriller Runner. Spilo subsequently was dismissed as manager by the film’s star, Alan Ritchson, and sent home shortly after, multiple sources have confirmed to Deadline.

Those sources cited inappropriate behavior that included bullying and yelling at crew. His dismissal on the film came after an Hr investigation, and the Jack Reacher star parted ways with the manager at the same time. This all happened a week ago.

You might recall Spilo for his stint on Survivor: Island of the Idols, when he became the first contestant on the show to be sent home, for alleged inappropriate behavior. This came after two female contestants said they were made uncomfortable by Spilo’s touchy-feely manner. This played out before the cameras, and Spilo survived that. The torch...

‘Reacher’s Alan Ritchson Is Bloodied Up in Action-Packed Sneak Peek of New Movie ‘Runner’
Image
Alan Ritchson may be off our small screens as a very big man, with Reacher between seasons right now, but soon he'll be on the big screen in a big way in Runner, an action flick alongside Owen Wilson, which is currently underway in the sunshine of Brisbane and the Gold Coastin Australia. The film centers on Ritchson as Hank Malone, a top-tier courier assigned to transport a vital organ to a critically ill young girl. As her life hangs in the balance, the mission quickly unravels when sinister forces emerge, determined to derail the delivery.

Ritchson has taken to Instagram, something which he's great for — particularly to show off what he's eating for breakfast — to post a behind-the-scenes look at the movie, including a look at just how bloody he's going to end up in this film. Looks like a bone-crunching, good time at the movies if you ask us.

In addition to that, the film, which cost $55 million to make, earned $83.6 million at the global box office. Producer Todd Garner has been sharing teasing behind-the-scenes photos from the sequel for quite a while, but we finally have some official promotional material via a poster spotlighting Karl Urban as "Johnny F*cking Cage," and a banner featuring the movie's updated logo.

The Boys and Star Trek actor doesn't appear to be in his classic video game costume as the beloved Mk character, but that's likely because this is a movie-within-a-movie poster for one of Cage's action flicks, "Uncaged Fury."

The cocky Hollywood star turned heroic freedom fighter's debut was set up at the end of the first movie when Cole Young (Lewis Tan) told his fellow kombatants that he knew someone "out in LA" that could aid them in the impending rematch against the forces of Outworld.

The sequel has also been given a...

Fithian Group To Launch Digital Marketplace Connecting Indie Filmmakers And Exhibitors
Image
The Fithian Group, launched last fall by longtime NATO chief John Fithian, has developed a data-driven, digital theatrical distribution marketplace it hopes will revolutionize how independent filmmakers and rights-holders book and release movies in theaters.

An early version of the platform, called Attend, rolls out Stateside in the first quarter of 2025. The U.S. and Australia will be initial markets.

Dozens of filmmakers and producers from Sean Baker to Steven Soderbergh Patty Jenkins and Ted Hope are supporting the concept, signing on to an Attend statement “that modern, democratic, data-driven marketplace providing an efficient and effective way to distribute all genres of film directly to theatres and audiences is a vital need for our industry and art form.”

Powered by entertainment tech firm Vista Group, the marketplace allows filmmakers to upload details and materials for their films directly onto the platform. Exhibitors can search the database, and Attend recommends movies.

The Ex NATO Chief Has a New Online Marketplace Meant to Cut Out the Film-Distribution Middleman
Image
The former leader of theater-owner’s group NATO has a new way to get your independent film into movie theaters — one intended to cut out the middleman.

John Fithian is launching an online marketplace to connect filmmakers directly with exhibitors. The platform is called “Attend,” and it puts the “intelligence” into its artificial intelligence. Attend’s tech, powered by the Vista Group, pairs filmmakers with the specific theaters best suited to their movie. For exhibitors, Attend is a portal to a broader range of content. This way, filmmakers retain the rights to their movie, and exhibitors keep control over their screens.

Sorry about all of that, distributors.

A filmmaker uploads details about (and assets from) their films directly into Attend, including metadata and other specifics. The platform’s AI will match the movie with theaters based on their customer data, local demographics, and affinity groups.

Attend will launch an alpha phase in the U.

Blu-ray.com reports that the movie is set to hit retailers on December 17 with a two-disc release that includes a bevy of new goodies, including a new 4K restoration.

In 2019, it was reported that Paramount was intending to remake the movie with Todd Garner, who recently worked with the studio on the family film Playing With Fire, producing under his Broken Road Productions banner. Since then, no updates have been revealed. However, our Arrow strongly recommended the 1990 film, saying, “If you’ve never seen Internal Affairs, stop what you’re doing right now, find it somewhere, and give it a whirl. Mortal Kombat 2 Promises Bloodier Battles and Long-Awaited Tournament
Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim in Mortal Kombat (2021)
The highly-anticipated sequel to last year’s hit “Mortal Kombat” reboot is primed to take the iconic fighting franchise to a whole new level, according to recent reveals from cast and crew. Speaking to reporters at Comic-Con 2024, star Lewis Tan teased that “Mortal Kombat 2” will deliver the long-awaited tournament format that gamers have adored since the franchise’s 1992 debut.

In the games, the tournament serves as a battle royale where champions from Earthrealm and Outworld duke it out fighter by fighter. Curiously absent from the 2021 film, fans lamented the missed opportunity to see signature battles play out on screen. However, Tan promises the sequel will rectify this oversight in spectacularly gory fashion.

“For the sequel, I can promise many more fights, much longer fights,” Tan revealed. He explained viewers can expect an authentic tournament structure that allows combatants like himself to literally battle it out in bracket-style competition. “It’s very gory,...

'It's Very Gory': Mortal Kombat 2 Star Teases Longer, Bloodier Fight Scenes
Image
2021's Mortal Kombat certainly featured plenty of gore worthy of the iconic video game it adapted. The film's star, Lewis Tan, was at the center of a lot of that chaotic violence, but he promises that more gore can be expected for the sequel.

Tan starred as Cole Young in Mortal Kombat, an original character that isn't in any of the games. His character acts as a conduit into the expansive universe of Mortal Kombat, though he has a surprising lineage to one of the series' most iconic characters. Though the sequel is still a year away from release, Tan is already beginning to hype up the second entry. In an interview with Collider, Tan emphasized that they heard many of the criticisms from the die-hard fans of the franchise, and promises to deliver them an experience worthy of the iconic series.
