Wonder Woman fans can rest easy, because DC Studios' head James Gunn has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that a new "Wonder Woman" movie is being written right now. But fans shouldn't expect to see Gal Gadot back as Diana, because while this is the third live-action "Wonder Woman" film, it is almost certainly going to be a reboot, not a sequel to "Wonder Woman 1984."
The previous silver screen Wonder Woman movies were part of the now-dead DC Extended Universe. We're about a month out from seeing if Gunn's DC Universe Take Two can soar with "Superman." So far, of the DC Trinity, we only have David Corenswet cast as Superman. But Gunn does have plans for the other two.

DC doesn't know the meaning of the word restraint. From Jonah Hex to Batman and even the fluffy Super-Pets, it appears like every DC character has received their own feature film at some point in time. Yet, like every other comic book movie fan around the world, we're greedy -- we want and demand more from the powers that be. Give us "Zatanna." Put a brand-new "Swamp Thing" film into production. Heck, greenlight "Black Adam 2" while you're at it -- actually, maybe scratch that last one, because we don't need the hierarchy of power to flatulate again.
While we're always in the mood for new projects, there's a special allure about the what-ifs -- you know, the cancelled DC movies of the past. Look, there's no guarantee that these films would have been any good or even mildly watchable, but there's something about them that keeps the brain pondering the possibilities.

Before director George Miller decided to return to the Mad Max franchise in 2015 with Fury Road, the Australian auteur was tapped by Warner Bros. to direct Justice League: Mortal in 2007. Now, 17 years later, we have another glimpse of what could have been thanks to filmmaker Ryan Unicomb. Millers latest, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, serves as a prequel to Fury Road, but was unfortunately a box office dud, and while these days Unicomb is using his talents as a Hollywood marketing guru, he was working on a documentary which has now fallen by the wayside that would have chronicled Millers version of Justice League.
Taking to his Instagram account earlier this week, Unicomb shared some photos of the late Hugh Keays-Byrne, who portrayed Immortan Joe in Fury Road before sadly passing away in 2020. The photos show his full transformation into Jonn Jonzz a.k.a. Martian Manhunter one of the...

Out of all the comic book movies that have failed to see the light of day over the years, George Miller's Justice League Mortal remains the most talked-about.
The Mad Max: Fury Road and Furiosa director's take on DC Comics' iconic super-team came very close to shooting after assembling a cast that included D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman, and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman.
The project was well into pre-production when the plug was pulled due to the writers strike, and we've seen quite a bit of low-quality concept art and behind-the-scenes photos doing the rounds online over the years.
Now, Ryan Unicomb - who was heading-up the now scrapped documentary about Justice League Mortal - has shared what might be our clearest look yet at one of the actors in full costume.

One of the biggest what-if stories in all of superhero media has just become that much more interesting, with a new, never-before-seen reveal of one of its core cast members. Long before Zack Snyder ever tried to bring the DC pantheon to life on the big screen, director George Miller practically scratched and clawed every step of the way in order to turn the fabled blockbuster "Justice League: Mortal" into a reality. By now, superhero fans have lived for years with hints and rumors of what this team-up film would've looked like. The original pitch would've starred Armie Hammer as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord, and, yes, none other than Common as the Green Lantern.
But the most intriguing addition was always Martian Manhunter, the fan-favorite extraterrestrial who would've made his live-action debut at the...

We Finally Know What George Miller’s Martian Manhunter Would’ve Looked Like in Justice League Mortal
Finally, the Martian Manhunter has revealed himself. A founding member of DC‘s Justice League of America, the shape-shifting Martian J’onn J’onzz was slated to appear in one of the most infamous canceled movie projects, the Justice League film almost directed by Mad Max creator George Miller.
Miller’s Justice League: Mortal would have featured the “Big Seven” most associated with the Justice League, including the Martian Manhunter. And to play the Manhunter, Miller turned to one of his favorite collaborators, Hugh Keays-Byrne, who played Toecutter in the first Mad Max film and would later go on to play Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Thanks to new behind-the-scenes photos posted by prosthetics artist Antony McMullen, we can finally see what the big screen version of Martian Manhunter would have looked like, as envisioned by Miller and his team. And he looks… pretty much like Martian Manhunter.

One actor who came close to comic book movie stardom is Santiago Cabrera. In a recent Hollywood Reporter interview, he opened up about almost playing Aquaman back in 2007. Cabrera – best known from TV’s Heroes – said he officially got the part when George Miller was going to direct Justice League: Mortal.
Miller, the genius behind Mad Max, had cast Cabrera as Aquaman and the movie was gearing up to shoot down in Australia. Cabrera flew all the way there just to meet Miller and try on his Aquaman costume. “It felt so real in that moment,” he reflected. But things change fast in Hollywood. Right as filming was about to start, the writer’s strike hit and stopped the whole project in its tracks.

Santiago Cabrera reflects on his canceled DC casting in Justice League: Mortal, and expresses a willingness to appear in future Marvel or DC roles down the line. Justice League: Mortal had a considerable cast lineup before it was canceled, with more than one actor going on to appear in the Dceu. Cabrera, a solid choice for Marvel or DC roles, could potentially still play Aquaman in the future, or channel his sci-fi talents into that side of the Dcu.
Santiago Cabrera has talked about his perspective on taking on a potential DC recasting nearly two decades after his Justice League: Mortal casting fell through following the movie's cancelation. Many potentially great superhero movies have failed to materialise over the years, though George Miller's Justice League: Mortal remains among the most intriguing.
Only bits and pieces have ever been revealed about the project (an early version of the screenplay is floating around online if you search hard enough), including the fact the Mad Max director considered shooting it completely in motion capture, similar to Beowulf.
Unfortunately, Justice League: Mortal ended up being a victim of the 2007/2008 writer's strike, though it got far enough along to assemble an impressive cast of young actors. The idea was for them to grow into their roles over a series of movies that would have launched a shared DC Universe around the same time the MCU was created.
Adam Brody was cast as Barry Allen/The Flash, with D.J. Cotrona as Superman, rapper Common as John Stewart/Green Lantern, Australian supermodel Megan Gale as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman,...

There’s controversy and then there’s comic book movie controversy. While usually its concerning something more lighthearted like the internet losing their minds over some kind casting decision, we sometimes get the darker stuff. Like “shifting an entire studio’s heirarchy” level of craziness. From reported verbal abuse to alleged threatening of careers to a miserable Ben Affleck, there’s a lot of bad that came from Warner’s 2017 film. So today on DC Revisited, we’re diving into the moustache removing and tone lightening of Joss Whedon’s Justice League.
If you think other films in the DC lineup have had controversy then you haven’t seen anything yet because the stuff that goes on here is absolutely nuts. But I should state outright: we’ll deal with the Snyder Cut and all of that surrounded that in a future video. For now, we’ll just focus on the original filming period,...

Whether it’s using her lasso to get the truth out of her enemies or her gauntlets capable of trapping energy and using it to her advantage, Wonder Woman has some pretty cool abilities. And that’s not even getting into her crazy speed and jumping ability. While we may not have gotten her invisible jet, the other staples of Wonder Woman are all there, so join us on today’s DC Revisited as we dive into Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman.
While we may have finally received a Wonder Woman via Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman, the project had actually been in development for quite some time. Comedy director Ivan Reitman was even attached to the film as a producer in 1996. Then in ’99, Jon Cohen was tapped by now-producer Joel Silver to write a Wonder Woman script. He was even eyeing Sandra Bullock to star in the title role.

Unlike Covid, which forced a sudden and immediate shutdown of feature film productions that ultimately cost the studios anywhere north of $30 million per pic, the Hollywood majors have been planning and bracing for the WGA strike that began today since last fall.
For several of the studios, their theatrical releases dated for 2024 are in post-production, though there are some exceptions.
The contracts for the DGA and SAG-AFTRA do not expire until June 30, and some movie productions are scheduled to start up before then. Studios have figured out workarounds: a handful of tentpole productions are shooting overseas where there isn’t a heavy Teamsters presence, and the possibility of a shoot closing is less likely. Furthermore, studios have either locked scripts for productions, or have gotten sign-off on not having a scribe on set. The priority in case of a shutdown: Getting big action scenes out of the way first. Come Memorial Day weekend,...

With Robert Pattinson answering the Bat-Signal for Matt Reeves’ sequel to 2022’s The Batman, we know the Batcave won’t be empty for long, but much like any superhero casting these days, there were naysayers that thought the former Twilight favorite wouldn’t fit the cape and cowl.
Now that most of them have been proved wrong, is Hollywood finally ready to accept its new Batman? There are whispers that Pattinson has been locked in for a trilogy of movies and various spin-offs, but in some Elseworlds tale, it could’ve been someone completely different carrying the weight of Gotham City on his back. There have been a lot of Batmen over the years, and with that, even more who’ve missed out on the part. Let’s look back at 10 stars who nearly played Batman.
Pierce Brosnan (Batman)
Leaving comic book fans shaken and stirred, 007 himself was once tipped to play the Dark Knight.

One of the biggest missed opportunities in the realm of comic book movies has to be Justice League: Mortal, the DC Comics ensemble movie about the greatest superhero team in the world, that Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller was set to direct at one point. The film had already lined up an ambitious cast, which included Jay Baruchel in the role of the villain Maxwell Lord.
While Justice League: Mortal did not end up getting made, the character of Lord did make his cinematic debut in 2020's Wonder Woman 1984, played by Pedro Pascal. In a recent interview with Variety, Jay Baruchel was asked how different his version of Lord would have been from Pascal's. Baruchel admitted he has not seen Wonder Woman 1984 yet, but went on to describe the movie Miller would have made in deeply stirring terms.

While the current version of the live-action Justice League is embroiled in its own #ReleasetheSnyderCut controversy, there was another version of the team that was set to be brought to the big screen by Warner Bros. and Mad Max director George Miller back in 2008. The project was scrapped, but so intense was the speculation around the canceled feature that filmmaker Ryan Unicomb received enthusiastic support when he announced he was working on a documentary about the making of Miller's Justice League Mortal. Unicomb recently revealed why Warner Bros. is not directly involved in the documentary.
"It's as difficult as ever to get information and for the most part - and this is part of why it's taken so long - it's akin to getting blood from a stone. Because for so many people, it's such a sore point. For producers, it's a sore point because millions of dollars were spent...

Armie Hammer as Batman? No, Robert Pattinson has not been unexpectedly kicked off Matt Reeves's upcoming Batman movie. Instead, Hammer was set to play Batman in George Miller's planned Justice League movie back in 2007. The project was eventually scrapped and remains the subject of much online speculation. Now, Ryan Unicomb, the director of a documentary tracking the making of the film has posted a photo on Instagram of the Batman cowl that Hammer would have worn in the movie:
The color of the cowl is brown instead of the standard black or deep blue that fans instantly recognize. But that would presumably have changed as filming began. The ears are longer and more pointed than most other incarnations of the cowl, something Hammer's cowl has in common with the cowl worn by Pattinson in the footage of his Bat costume that Matt Reeves has released so far.

George Miller’s Justice League Mortal is one of those films that I wish would have been made. I would have loved to see how it would have turned out!
We’ve got some new concept art for the film that has surfaced and it shows us early concept art of Armie Hammer’s Batman and Adam Brody ‘s Flash. It gives us more of an idea of what they were thinking in terms of character design. When previously talking about the Batsuit, Hammer revealed:

As far as directors’ filmographies go, George Miller may have one the most varied line-ups possible. The director responsible for four Mad Max pics, two Happy Feet movies, and a couple of Babe outings almost added Justice League Mortal to his roster in 2007, but it was nixed deep into pre-production.
A script had been finalized, casting had commenced and sets were being built, but Warner Bros. mysteriously and unceremoniously canceled what would’ve been the first live-action Justice League movie right before filming began. Only now, over a decade since its demise, is production art finally leaking out to the public, including our best look yet at DJ Cotrona’s Superman suit.
As first revealed by Skull101ify on Instagram, the unused designs by Weta Workshop depict a Man of Steel costume much different than what we’ve ever seen on the big screen, and you can check it out for yourself down below.

The tale of Justice League: Mortal is legendary amongst superhero film fans. Though DC lovers had to wait until 2017 to get a Justice League movie, they could’ve got one back in 2009 if Warner Bros.’ initial plans had gone through. Mad Max director George Miller was supposed to helm the all-star team-up film that would’ve beaten The Avengers to the punch by three years, but production issues ultimately stopped it from reaching cameras.
Over time, we’ve gotten some glimpses at how the characters could’ve appeared in the movie, such as Armie Hammer’s Batman, Megan Gale’s Wonder Woman and D.J. Cotrona’s Superman. However, we haven’t had a good look at what Hugh Keays-Byrne could’ve looked like as Martian Manhunter. Fan artist Spdrmnkyxxiii has now taken a stab at imagining what might’ve been though, creating a possible character design for J’onn J’onzz in Mortal.

Flashback to 2007. In the midst of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, WB and DC were about to beat Marvel Studios to the punch. Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller had signed on to direct a Justice League film written by husband and wife duo Michele and Kieran Mulroney, subtitled Mortal.
Intended to be the start of a new franchise, the pic had even finalized its cast. D.J. Cotrona (Superman), Megan Gale (Wonder Woman), Common (John Stewart Aka Green Lantern), Adam Brody (Flash), Santiago Cabrera (Aquaman), Hugh Keays-Byrne (Martian Manhunter) and Armie Hammer (Batman) were all set to star, with production scheduled to take place in Australia.
Unfortunately, however, Miller’s superhero epic never made it to Sydney. The 2007-08 Writers Guild of America Strike and other troubles behind the scenes forced WB to abandon Justice League: Mortal and the rest, as they say, is history.

Following the concept art of the whole Justice League team and photo of D.J Cotrona as Superman that we shared yesterday, a couple new pieces of concept art have been released for George Miller's Justice League Mortal. One of them gives us a better look at the costume Armie Hammer would have worn as Batman and the other gives us another look at Cotrona's Superman outfit. These come from DC Films Hub.

Before Zack Snyder attempted to bring Justice League to the big screen and long before Joss Whedon Frankensteined together the version that eventually did hit theaters, Warner Bros. was developing Justice League Mortal in 2006, from the guy who brought us the world of Mad Max. The movie made it to the pre-production stage, but it was later canceled. Now, nearly 12 years later, we finally have our first look at what all of our heroes would have looked like under the direction of George Miller, and it's pretty cool.
As it turns out, George Miller's version of Justice League would have paid homage to the comics in a visual way. All of the costumes shown off here look like all of the characters just stepped out of a 90s comic. Except for Batman, these were pretty faithful to their four-color counterparts. New concept artwork for Batman’s and Superman’s suits for Justice League Mortal is revealed. Set to be directed by George Miller, the film boasted a long line-up of actors playing some of the most iconic DC superheroes such as Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman and Hugh Keays-Byrne as the Martian Manhunter among others. Unfortunately, the movie was canceled due to budgetary reasons before principal photography even started.

It’s not often that you can remember what you were doing a decade ago, but in this case, I can. Ten years ago at this time, I was vehemently following the production of Justice League Mortal, looking for any news I could find online pertaining to it. After all, this was set to be the first live action meet up of DC’s premier superheroes on the big screen.
Set to have been directed by George Miller with a cast of up-and-coming actors featuring the likes of Armie Hammer as Batman, DJ Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Common as Green Lantern and Adam Brody as The Flash, it certainly seemed like we were off to the races and the dream was about to be made a reality.
But, unfortunately, that was not the case as the plug was pulled on the blockbuster for a variety of reasons.

Even though I’m someone who walked away from the Justice League movie that we eventually received with a smile on my face, there’s no way I’m going to say that it was perfect or was the complete package that my favorite characters deserved. Actually, I find myself conflicted because while I do love some of the actors that populate the landscape that makes up the DC Extended Universe such as Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa, every little bit of trivia surrounding the canned Justice League Mortal forces me to believe that it’d have been the better product.
The latest round of declassified info is some of the best this writer has seen in the time that has passed in the decade or so since the ax came down. Really, aside from seeing Megan Gale in her Wonder Woman regalia, we never had...

New artwork from George Miller’s failed 2009 Justice League: Mortal arrive giving us a glimpse of the planned Batman funeral scene. Long before the DC Films Universe existed, director George Miller already had a plan to bring DC’s premier team of superheroes to the big screen. But instead of straight-up assembling the characters, the shelved film was meant to be a bit more complicated with its story being an adaptation of Mark Waid’s Tower of Babel and based on the Justice League: Unlimited animated series. Gathering a pool of talented actors such as Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman and Hugh Keays-Byrne as the Martian Manhunter among others, there was so much anticipation for the movie.

It’s going on 10 years since Warner Bros. officially scrapped plans for Justice League Mortal, yet DC superfans still like to ponder over what could have been.
Armie Hammer was undoubtedly the fulcrum of that botched project, having signed on to play the Caped Crusader back in 2007. Dogged by internal setbacks and a high-profile writers strike, production was ultimately abandoned two years later, which is all the more disheartening when you consider that Justice League Mortal would have introduced us to a “dark, deranged” Batman – one who was more akin to Christian Bale’s Dark Knight than previous incarnations.

"It's a bird, it's a plane, it's... Sylvester Stallone?!" Christopher Reeve cast such a long shadow after his incredible portrayal of Superman it took years to get another actor into the cape. (And lookalike actor Brandon Routh's performance in Superman Returns was nothing short of homage.) Some more new details have surfaced for George Miller's canceled DC film project Justice League Mortal. The movie was supposed to be made back in 2009 and it would have been a very different take on the DC superhero team than what we are seeing now.
During a recent interview with Jay Baruchel on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He was cast in the role of the villain, Maxwell Lord. During the podcast, he talked about his time on Justice League Mortal and shared a couple cool sounding scenes involving Wonder Woman (Megan Gale). One of those scenes involves her big intro in the film and the other featured a brutal battle between her and Superman!
When talking about her introduction, he explained:
"The first time you see Wonder Woman - the opening scene on Themyscira. It’s just her on top of a steed and she about half a kilometer away from a minotaur.

If it wasn't for the Writers' Strike of 2007, we may have already seen a Justice League film, featuring Armie Hammer as Batman. Ten years ago, Justice League: Mortal was in the works, with a cast including D.J. Controna as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Common as Green Lantern, Adam Brody as Flash, and Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman. George Miller, who most recently directed Mad Max: Fury Road, was set to helm the picture, and though the film never made it past pre-production, as was the case with Superman Lives, the all important costumes were designed, and even tested out, by the cast!
Screenrant sat down with Armie Hammer recently, asking the Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Lone Ranger star if he had the chance to try out the Batman armor designed for Justice League: Mortal:

Last week, a report surfaced that Armie Hammer may be joining a Dceu movie, after it was discovered that he was recently followed on Twitter by DC Films president Geoff Johns and Joe Manganiello, who has been confirmed to play Deathstroke in Ben Affleck's The Batman. This lead to a wave of speculation that the actor may be joining the Dceu in some capacity, whether it be in The Batman or Green Lantern Corps, which the actor seemingly picked up on. He sent out a series of tweets teasing a major announcement, which ended up just being that the actor will 'play his old guitar'. Now Joe Manganiello has gotten in on the act, posting photos of himself and Armie Hammer 'burning the midnight oil'.
Armie Hammer shared the same photo but with a different caption on his Instagram reading "Men at work." The photo has both actors looking at an iPad.

One superhero movie I would have loved to see is George Miller's vision of DC Comic's Justice League. That's something that we'll never see, though. It's a shame because it could have been amazing.
