10 Dark Anime Adaptations That Are Even More Twisted Than Their Manga
Image
When adapting particularly violent or explicit manga to anime, it’s not uncommon for the adaptations to tone down the more graphic parts of the source material. From greater studio oversight to reliance on sponsorships, anime productions have to abide by more rules when it comes to the content they’re allowed to show, whereas manga can get away with taking more risks, even when published in big magazines.

However, sometimes, the opposite is true, and the anime takes the tamer aspects of the source material and ups them to eleven, leaning fully into the twisted and objectionable aspect of what it is adapting. These dark anime series are so extreme in the violence, gore, or profanity they portray, even manga readers might be surprised by how they choose to interpret the original.

The easiest anime references are the iconic school uniforms, which are not only required attire at Japanese schools but are a symbol of youth and one's formative years. Sailor Moon, Dan Da Dan, and Neon Genesis Evangelion all feature fairly basic uniforms that can be made with plaid skirts, white button-downs, and a tie or bow. Other anime characters can be captured simply with a cool suit,...

'Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars' Review: Ultimate Fighting Comes To The Wii
There are plenty of genres that are lacking on the Wii. From role playing games to first person shooters, the console simply doesn't offer as diverse of a lineup as its competitors. However, there is one genre that stands out above and beyond all the others, as being the most neglected: fighting games. Yes, there's the reining king, "Super Smash Bros. Brawl," but other than that, there were only a handful of titles, and most of them weren't that noteworthy (the overwhelming majority have "Naruto" in the title) until now. Capcom has just released their first entry in their hallowed Vs. series in years, and it's on Nintendo's little white wonder. "Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars" is looking to fill that gap with a quality title from a company that knows a thing or two about fighting.

The Basics

"Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars" is a throwback to the 2D fighting games of old,...
