Stephen Fung is a versatile international filmmaker, actor, and director known for his dynamic contributions to modern cinema. He made his acting debut in "Forbidden Nights" (1990) and has since starred in numerous blockbuster films across Asia. In 2004, Fung wrote, directed, and starred in his feature directorial debut, "Enter the Phoenix", produced by Jackie Chan's JCE Movies, which became an instant hit. His follow-up, "House of Fury" (2005), marked his first collaboration with legendary action choreographer Yuen Woo-ping (The Matrix, Kill Bill) and was a major success, opening for the Hong Kong International Film Festival, and selected for the 18th Tokyo International Film Festival.
Fung continued to balance acting and directing, helming "JUMP" (2009), written and produced by Stephen Chow for Sony Columbia Pictures Asia. In 2012, he directed the first two instalments of the "Tai Chi" trilogy, "Tai Chi Zero" and "Tai Chi Hero", which garnered commercial success, multiple awards and were official selections at the Venice, Toronto, and Busan Film Festivals. In 2016, he directed "The Adventurers", featuring an international cast including Jean Reno, Andy Lau, and Shu Qi, which opened at No. 4 globally with a $30 million USD weekend box office.
Beyond film, Fung served as executive producer, director, and fight director for AMC's acclaimed martial arts series "Into the Badlands." In 2019, he directed and executive produced the first two episodes of Netflix's "Wu Assassins."
