Adam began his career directing a documentary entitled Wolves in Winter, which went on to receive two Emmy nominations. Adam's next project, Color Me Blue, about the NYPD and its many heroes, won him his first Emmy.

Adam has also directed a wide range of music videos and commercials. His Rolling Stones Emotional Rescue video was part of the Whitney Museum Biennial celebration, and his video for the rap group Whodini, Big Mouth, is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. After directing over 40 music videos for acts as diverse as The Rolling Stones, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Jean-Luc Ponty and The Robert Joffrey Ballet, Adam directed his first feature film, Medium Straight (1988). The film was shown in Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival, with Variety magazine citing Adam as "a name to watch." Medium Straight also won Best Picture at the Seattle Film Festival, and Adam Best Director at the Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival.

Adam formed his first company, Perpetual Motion Films in 1991. From the Air Combat (1993) 1 and 2 series and Masters of War (1994) to the The 10th Annual National CableACE Awards (1989)-winning epic Biography (1987) series... including Biography's George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Atila the Hun and Michelangelo, which is one of the top selling documentaries in the history of Amazon.com. Perpetual Motion became a groundbreaking pioneer in the nascent cable production industry.

By 2002, Adam had formed Traveling Light Media. There he produced, directed and wrote programming for A&E, Discovery, The History Channel, HBO Mojo HD, Spike TV and many others. In addition to almost tripling A&E's usual audience, Adam's Biography on John Travolta was nominated for an Emmy for Best Non-Fiction Series and he himself was nominated for Best Director.

Adam has received Cine Golden Eagle Awards for his A&E Biographies on Kevin Costner, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone and LL Cool J as well as a Gold Medal from the New York Festival, as well as Cine and Telly Awards for The Crash of Flight 191 (2004). Additionally, he recently completed his third feature film, And She Was (2002), starring Patrick Warburton and Brad Dourif.

He joined Cannery Agency in 2009 as Head of Production and Development and is hard at work on a diverse slate of projects.
