Marie Fredriksson

Trivia

Marie Fredriksson

Edit
  • On September 11, 2002, Fredriksson complained of feeling unwell after jogging with her husband Mikael Bolyos. She collapsed in a bathroom after becoming nauseous, with the impact of the fall fracturing her cranium. She then had an epileptic seizure. Scans later indicated she had a brain tumor in the back of her head. After waiting several weeks for the fracture and resulting concussion to subside, she underwent successful surgery to remove the tumor, which was malignant, and she endured months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Lasting effects of the tumor include her being blind in one eye and having limited hearing and mobility, as well as being unable to read or write. She was also unable to speak for a considerable period of time after her treatment. Roxette's tenth studio album, Good Karma, was released in June 2016, and was due to be promoted with a European tour celebrating the duo's 30th anniversary. However, these concerts were canceled after Fredriksson was advised by her doctors to cease all touring activity, due to poor health. Fredriksson died on December 9, 2019 in Djursholm, Sweden at the age of 61 from a brain tumor.
  • After collapsing in her home in september 2002, she was admitted to Karolinska hospital (Sweden) where the doctors discovered a brain tumour. She had it surgically removed and has since undergone radiation therapy for cancer.
  • Has four #1 pop singles with Roxette: Listen To Your Heart (1989), The Look (1989), It Must Have Been Love (From "Pretty Woman") (1990), and Joyride (1991).
  • Had two children, daughter Inez Josefin Bolyos (b. April 29, 1993) and son Oscar Mikael Bolyos (b. November 26, 1996), with husband Mikael Bolyos.
  • One half of the Swedish duo Roxette.
  • Chosen Swedish Artist of the Year in 2000.
  • Popular Swedish singer.
  • Together with Roxette partner Per Gessle, she was awarded King's Medal of the Eighth Size, received from Carl Gustaf XVI, King of Sweden (2003).
  • Is the youngest of five siblings.
