  • In the 1960s his novel 'Clap Hands If You Believe in Fairies' was a first in bringing the devastation caused by the thalidomide drug to the attention of a wider public.
  • Retired from film making and acting with his long-term partner Rod Pienaar to the Italian region of Tuscany in 1996.

    They returned to London, England in 2010.
  • He discovered Patrick Wymark's body after Wymark had died in Australia while on a theater tour.

  • He was offered a Hollywood contract but turned it down as he didn't fancy living in Los Angeles.
  • Upon his death, he was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium and his ashes scattered in their rose garden.
  • He served in the army and was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Signals in Germany where he learned to ride,fence, ski and drive.
  • Never trained as an actor and lied about his age to join a Glasgow theatre as an assistant stage manager when 16, Later at the Citizens Theatre he was spotted and cast in the tv series Kidnapped which led to London and films.
  • His 3rd novel was "In Place of Reason.".
  • Wrote 2 plays: "Cannibal Crackers," and "Pure Filth," the latter never staged.
  • Wrote the book "The Bard in the Bush," about the travels of a small group of actors taking the theatre to people in distant parts of the world.
