- "Miss Chicago" 1938.
- In the '70s and '80, she operated Hidden Valley Ranch in Reseda, CA, where she raised pygmy goats, Muscovy ducks, chickens and rabbits. She was also a top champion breeder of miniature horses.
- Screen-tested for the lead role in Le Port de l'angoisse (1944) but lost out to Lauren Bacall.
- Second lead in films for Columbia, Paramount and Universal in the 1940s and '50s. Often played hard-boiled types.
- Owned Mathew Travel Center, a travel agency in Sherman Oaks, CA, from 1971-86.
- Member of the Earl Carroll Follies.
- Won the Vernon Rice/Dick Watts Broadway award - Stardust Citation for her role in "With a Silk Thread"
