Sheri Foster

Sheri Foster has carved a distinctive path in film, television, and theater as a proud citizen of the Cherokee Nation. Hailing from Texas, she has been a steadfast advocate for Native representation in the arts. Her breakout role in Oliver Stone's "U-Turn" earned her the First Americans in the Arts Award for Best Supporting Actress, setting the stage for a career marked by authenticity and depth. On television, she is perhaps best recognized for her portrayal of Fern White in Netflix's "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt", a performance that led to her being the first Native American woman considered for an Emmy in that role. Her diverse screen credits span from the PBS mystery "Coyote Waits" to the historical drama "Crazy Horse" and the indie thriller "Mohawk", as well as recent appearances in "Wild Indian" and "Rutherford Falls". Foster's stage work is equally compelling; she has toured with the Native American Theater group Mystic Voices and performed in productions like "God of Vengeance" and "The Independence of Eddie Rose". Beyond acting, she has lent her voice to the Emmy-nominated PBS special featuring the American Indian Dance Theater. As a founding trustee of First Americans in the Arts and a former board member of the American Indian Registry, Foster has consistently championed Indigenous voices in entertainment. Now based in Los Angeles with her husband, Oscar-nominated makeup artist John Blake, she continues to enrich storytelling with roles like The Driver in the 2023 thriller "Strange Darling" and voice work in the animated series "Spirit Rangers".
