Trivia

  • In 1992 Foster was involved in a freak car accident after his vehicle struck actor/singer Ben Vereen who was wandering on the Pacific Coast Highway in the dark of night. As it turned out, Vereen had already suffered an accident earlier that day when his car hit a tree, causing him to bang his head on the roof of his car and suffer a stroke. But after Vereen was taken to the hospital, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed and intervened just in the nick of time. In a strange quirk of fate, Foster actually 'saved' Vereen's life by almost killing him.
  • His close friend Andrea Bocelli is his all-time favorite singer.
  • Declined an offer to write a theme/title song for Titanic (1997).
  • His collaborative projects have involved such recording artists as: Barbra Streisand, Céline Dion, Natalie Cole, Madonna, Diana Ross, Olivia Newton-John, Whitney Houston, Cheryl Lynn Josh Groban, Michael Bolton, Lara Fabian, Michael Bublé, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Toni Braxton, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Jake Zyrus, Renee Olstead, The Corrs etc.
  • Co-wrote several songs with Maurice White for Earth Wind & Fire and The Emotions.

Quotes

  • Every single day I wake up, I try to do my very best. I give 100-per-cent, and absolutely 100-per-cent love what I do every day. I've been doing this for forty years. I'm obsessed with what I do, and I just love it.
  • I'm probably wouldn't do anything differently if I had to do it again. Every little thing that happens to you, good and bad, becomes a little piece of the puzzle of who you become. Every successful person you read about - Warren Buffett, Bill Gates - they all say pretty much the same thing. 'Do what you love'. I know I did.
  • The fact of the matter is I've been slagged my whole life for doing so-called pussy music - you know, like people say the reason I don't go into elevators is because I'm afraid to hear my own music. That's actually not the truth, but when I lay my hands on the piano what comes out is what comes out.
  • [on first hearing Céline Dion] It was, to say the least, a magical moment - one of those moments you remember forever. She was up there belting out Top 40 songs, and she didn't even know what she was saying. She didn't speak hardly any English at all at that point. I couldn't see anyone else around me. I couldn't hear anyone else around me. I was mesmerized. I mean, that's once in a generation. A talent like that. I knew, one-hundred percent, she was going to be a superstar.
