Born in England, Marc Forby fell in love with films at the age of sixteen after seeing Jean-Jacques Beineix's "Betty Blue" at a local art house theater in Bristol. Inspired to direct, he purchased his first 16mm camera and started making documentary films at boarding school. During this time, Marc studied acting and earned a Gold Medal at the acclaimed London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Following B.A. in Film Studies at Queen's University, Marc moved to Los Angeles to work with Alliance Atlantis Communications whose credits included "Naked Lunch", "Crash", "Exotica" and "The Sweet Hereafter". Marc was eventually assigned to produce and sell features such as "29 Palms" starring Bill Pullman, Keith David, Chris O'Donnell, Jon Polito, Michael Rappaport, Rachel Leigh Cook, Jeremy Davies and "Devil In The Flesh" starring Rose McGowan. Marc left Alliance in 2002 to write a period epic about Hawaii's fallen monarchy which he financed by producing "Prom Night" starring Idris Elba, Brittany Snow and Kellan Lutz for Screen Gems. In 2005 his dream came true when ex-collaborator Matador Pictures ("The Wind That Shakes The Barley") agreed to take on Marc's directing debut "Princess Kaiulani", the true story of Hawaii's last Princess. Premiering at the Honolulu International Film Festival as "Barbarian Princess", "Princess Kaiulani" won the audience award tied with "Precious". The film was released theatrically in May of 2010, by Roadside Attractions for an outstanding run of twenty weeks. Marc's sophomore feature as a director "Highly Functional" starred Bruce Campbell (Army of Darkness), James Frecheville (Animal Kingdom), Missi Pyle (Gone Girl), Annabeth Gish (The X-Files) and Judge Reinhold (Beverly Hills Cop.) As of summer 2025, Marc is packaging his screenplay "Dirty Laundry" an offbeat crime thriller that follows an aging Los Angeles croupier and his teenage granddaughter who are faced with an unexpected death in the family.
