Netflix’s latest political thriller, Zero Day, is one of the most star-studded small-screen ventures released this year, chock-full of A-list actors. Setting aside the narrative, which is intriguing enough to keep the viewers hooked anyway, the sheer star power is bound to make you binge the whole series in one go irrespective of whether you like political thrillers or not. Abuse of such power to suppress opposing voices raises concerns about the rise of fascistic tendencies, a fear that manifests itself when the truth is finally revealed about the attack being orchestrated by the very elected officials entrusted to serve the people themselves. Needless to say, a gripping narrative such as this needs backing up with strong acting, and the...

The Ranger's Apprentice will likely be split into 6 films, most of them adapting two books to preserve story arcs and maintain narrative cohesion. The movie series must strike a balance between fidelity to the source material and originality to appeal to fans and newcomers alike. The final film, The Royal Ranger, will tie up loose ends, potentially incorporating flashbacks and short stories for a satisfying conclusion.
The Ranger's Apprentice is a sprawling 12-book series by Australian author John Flanagan, and the upcoming film adaptations of the novels will most likely split the books into six movies. The Ranger's Apprentice is an internationally acclaimed series, and it has a chance to become the next young adult book series to become a successful movie franchise. The Ranger's Apprentice movie is expected to cover the first two novels in the series, but how the rest of the series will be split up remains to be seen.

The Ranger's Apprentice books, written by John Flanagan, have been incredibly successful, with the series selling millions of copies and earning the author a spot on the New York Times bestselling list. The first film will cover the first two novels in the series, The Ruins of Gorlan and The Burning Bridge, and if successful, could pave the way for a larger franchise to fill the current void in major YA film adaptations.

Exclusive: Skydance has taken on the challenge of turning the bestselling YA fantasy novel series Ranger’s Apprentice into a live action film, with the hope it can become a franchise. Skydance has gotten control of the John Flanagan book series, and has closed a big deal with Hidden Figures helmer Ted Melfi to adapt, direct, and produce the film. Kim Quinn will also be producer.
Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger will produce alongside Melfi and Quinn. Flanagan will be executive producer, and Matt Grimm will oversee for Skydance.
I’ve heard that Melfi has made a deal worth high 7-figures if the movie gets made. His task will be to take the first two volumes – The Ruins of Gorlan & The Burning Bridge – and get a franchise off the ground that focuses on an orphan named Will who becomes an apprentice to a group of mysterious protectors known as the Rangers.

The Hollywood studios and other international producers that were hoping to take advantage of the Federal Government’s $140 million Location Incentive Program over the next few years may well be disappointed.
The fund runs until June 30 2023 – but only $18 million remains to be allocated. The figure was revealed by Dr Stephen Arnott, First Assistant Secretary, Arts, at a Senate Estimates hearing in Canberra earlier this week.
Dr Arnott told Greens Senator Hanson-Young: “As of now, $122 million has been committed, so that leaves $18 million uncommitted.”
The Senator then asked: “Just to be clear, unless we put some more money in, we’ve got $18 million to spend until 2022-23?”
Dr Arnott: “Yes.”
Last week the Government announced it’s allocating $30 million from the program to Dick Cook Studios Australia’s planned fantasy features Ranger’s Apprentice and The Alchemyst.
American Bruce Hendricks will produce Ranger’s Apprentice, based on the series of novels by Australian John Flanagan,...
