    • William Finn was born on February 28, 1952 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He was a writer and composer, known for Live from Lincoln Center (1976), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and In Trousers (1979). He died on April 7, 2025 in Bennington, Vermont, USA.

  • In 1992, won two Tony Awards for "Falsettos:" as Best Score (Musical), both music and lyrics, and, with collaborator James Lapine, as Best Book (Musical).
  • He and Rachel Sheinkin's musical, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", at the Marriott Theatre in Chicago, Illinois was nominated for a 2009 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Production of a Musical (Large).
  • William Finn was an American composer and lyricist.
  • He attended Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, as a music major. When he graduated, he received the Hutchinson Fellowship (a musical composition award).
  • Finn was a heavily autobiographical writer; he always wrote his own lyrics. His topics included the gay and Jewish experiences in contemporary America, and also family, belonging, sickness, healing, and loss. According to a 2006 article, "The Washington Post called him 'the composer laureate of loss.'".
