- William Finn was born on February 28, 1952 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He was a writer and composer, known for Live from Lincoln Center (1976), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and In Trousers (1979). He died on April 7, 2025 in Bennington, Vermont, USA.
- In 1992, won two Tony Awards for "Falsettos:" as Best Score (Musical), both music and lyrics, and, with collaborator James Lapine, as Best Book (Musical).
- He and Rachel Sheinkin's musical, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", at the Marriott Theatre in Chicago, Illinois was nominated for a 2009 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Production of a Musical (Large).
