Lucas Till & Ruby Rose in Elite Assassins Film 'The Collective' Trailer
Image
"Found 'em! I'll send some guys..." Quiver Distribution has unveiled an official trailer for The Collective, a new action thriller from filmmaker Tom DeNucci. This is yet another of these junk action films, with a similar plot to so many others - involving hitmen and traffickers and taking out the "bad guys". A young recruit to a mysterious agency finds himself going rogue on his first assignment, tracking down a dangerous group of "untouchable" human traffickers. The Collective charts the story of a group of righteous assassins who take aim at a human trafficking ring that's backed by a network of billionaires. Lucas Till stars as Sam Alexander, a "rookie assassin", joined by Ruby Rose, Mercedes Varnado, Paul Ben-Victor, Tyrese Gibson, John Fiore, Levon Panek, plus Don Johnson as their leader. This looks as uninteresting and derivative as anything can, even the action. Will anyone even watch? // Continue Reading ›...

Al Capone's Mug shot
MobMovieCon and SopranosCon to Have a Sit-Down in Atlantic City
Al Capone's Mug shot
It’s time for the punks to meet the godfathers. The creators of SopranosCon merged with MobMovieCon for a family celebration. From July 23 to July 25, Harrah’s Resort & Casino in Atlantic City will house the boardwalk’s biggest gangster gathering since Nucky Johnson hosted the mob’s Atlantic City Conference in 1929.

“Al Capone will not be coming though,” VirtualCons CEO Michael Mota tells Den of Geek. “Those were the mobsters. I would say this would be the biggest gathering of mobster wannabes.” The Sopranos fan convention has come a long way since it was dreamed up by three gangster movie aficionados from New York, Maryland, and Rhode Island. The 2019 SopranosCon drew thousands of fans from as far as The Netherlands and the United Kingdom to the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus. A planned expansion to MobMovieCon had to be pushed back because of the pandemic, but the organizers introduced VirtualCons...

Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur, Daniel Durant, and Emilia Jones in CODA (2021)
First Trailer for Sundance Hit 'Coda' with Emilia Jones & Troy Kotsur
Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur, Daniel Durant, and Emilia Jones in CODA (2021)
"Do you have something to say?" Apple TV has debuted a wonderful new trailer for the Sundance hit Coda, made by Sian Heder. The film premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and won both the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize at the fest (and was one of my Top 10). As a Coda (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her love of music and singing, and her fear of abandoning her parents and leaving her family behind. The excellent cast in Coda features Emilia Jones as Ruby, Troy Kotsur is a stand out role as her father, the enigmatic Marlee Matlin as her mother, plus Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Daniel Durant, John Fiore, and Eugenio Derbez. Every family has its own language. I wrote in my review that...

The Senator, also know as Chappaquiddick in its domestic Us territory has had a somewhat quick and lukewarm release internationally, yet garnered relatively positive reviews. The topic of Chappaquiddick itself is deeply tragic and mesmerizing moment of Us history involving Ted Kennedy. Whose surname may give away his notoriety be known as the brother of Us President John. F. Kennedy and Attorney General Robert Kennedy. Little is truly know about that fatal night of Friday, July the 18th, 1969, in which Kenndey veered his car off the side of bridge into the cold water of Chappaquiddick with insufficient facts and figures brought to the public and private attention surrounding the vent,...

Trail Of The Screaming Forehead: DVD review
Director: Larry Blamire. Review: Adam Wing. Comedy. It’s an acquired taste. With that in mind, I’d like to make a few things clear - that would be me. Airplane. Not funny. Leslie Nielsen. Not funny. Chevy Chase. Not funny. Lee Evans. Funny (even if he does make me feel uncomfortable with his relentless sweating). The Mighty Boosh. Not funny. Harry Hill. Not funny. Leigh Francis. Not funny. My Family… are they even calling that comedy these days? Ricky Gervais. Funny. Steve Merchant. Funny. Michael McIntyre. Funny. Stewart Francis. Funny. Kevin Bridges. Funny. Simon Pegg. Funny. Dumb & Dumber. Funny. Steve Carell. Funny. Comedy, like I say, very much an acquired taste. Larry Blamire, best known for cult favourite The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, returns to writing, directing and producing with a loving tribute to 60’s sci-fi movies. Lets just make another thing clear - I hate spoofs. Sorry, I...

Nick Cassavetes at an event for Alpha Dog (2006)
Barry Levinson is in talks to replace Nick Cassavetes as director of an upcoming biopic about mobster John Gotti, TheWrap has confirmed. If producer John Fiore can make a deal with the "Rain Man" director and "Donnie Brasco" producer, Levinson will take over for Nick Cassavetes, who dropped out of "Gotti: Three Generations" in April because of scheduling issues. John Travolta stars as the Dapper Don, John Gotti. Joe Pesci and -- if she's not in jail -- Lindsay Lohan also star. Actor-writer Leo Rossi wrote the screenplay. Larry Blamire on the set of Trail of the Screaming Forehead
Larry Blamire Renaissance Man
Larry Blamire on the set of Trail of the Screaming Forehead
Interviewed by Jessie Lilley

And just what is a “Renaissance Man” anyway? No, I’m not referring to the Voyager episode and I’m also not talking about the Penny Marshall film. In this context, the term Renaissance Man is defined as a person who excels at many different endeavors: the guy can do a lot of stuff and he does it all quite well. Such a one is the subject of this interview.

Larry Blamire first came across my radar when he and I were both living in Hollywood. I was at a private screening in the home of a friend of mine and he rolled a film called The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. I was transfixed. What a delightful way to spend some time; laughing yourself silly. I immediately found a way to contact this man as I wanted to know what makes him tick.

It’s now years later and,...

John Fiore, Brooke's father, tells Et that Brooke was released from the hospital Monday night and that her mother picked her up. Mueller was battling a case of pneumonia after being rushed to an L.A. hospital on January 19 with a 105-degree fever. A Colorado judge modified a protective court order (forbidding Sheen to talk to his wife following their alleged Christmas Day domestic dispute in Aspen, Co), allowing him to "be in [her] presence" and communicate with her while she remained admitted to the hospital for treatment. According to People magazine, now that she's been released, the protective order is back in place. A hearing is scheduled for February 8 in Aspen, Co to modify the order.

Brotherhood: Showtime TV Show Is Really Over, No Season Four
We've suspected the bad news for months but now, it's been confirmed that the Brotherhood series has indeed been cancelled by Showtime.

Brotherhood revolves around the lives of two brothers in an Irish-American neighborhood in Rhode Island. Tommy Caffee (Jason Clarke) is a family man and local politician while his brother Michael (Jason Isaacs) is a professional criminal who's involved with the Irish mob. Others in the cast of this gritty drama include Kevin Chapman, Annabeth Gish, Fiona C. Erickson, Brian Scannell, Kerry O'Malley, Fionnula Flanagan, Madison Garland, Billy Smith, Frank Ridley, Matt Servitto, Ethan Embry, Brian F. O'Byrne, Tina Benko, and John Fiore.

The series debuted on Showtime on July 9, 2006 and, despite some very positive reviews, Brotherhood didn't attract a lot of viewers; just 450,000. Showtime nevertheless renewed the show for a second season -- albeit one made up of only 10 episodes. They started airing in September of 2007 and the...

Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding (2004)
Tony N' Tina's Wedding
Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding (2004)
Emerging Pictures

Tony N' Tina's Wedding has been a theatrical phenomenon ever since its off-Broadway premiere some two decades ago, but everything that is unique about it has been necessarily lost in this screen adaptation written and directed by Roger Paradiso. Filmed in 2004 but only now getting a limited theatrical release -- the presence of a pre-Entourage Adrian Grenier in the cast may have something to do with it -- this broad comedy will quickly find its way to the video bins.

The stage show is a partially improvised, interactive theater experience that plunges the audience right into the heart of a wedding between two young Italians from Queens. In an attempt to inject a similar cinematic stylization into the proceedings, the filmmaker begins by providing only POV shots from the perspectives of the unseen couple, then settles into a home-movie-style format, as filmed by a flamboyantly gay wedding videographer (Guillermo Diaz).

Other than that technical conceit, the film plays out like a far too long (108 minutes) sketch featuring stereotypical characterizations and witless dialogue and situations. The director uses long, rambling takes to track the slapstick confrontations at the awesomely tacky Vinnie Black's Coliseum between the titular couple (Joey McIntyre, Mila Kunis); their warring in-laws (Priscilla Lopez, John Fiore) who once dated in high school; the pot-smoking best man; the ex-boyfriend (Grenier) who drunkenly interrupts the proceedings; the black priest who has a tendency to lapse into Baptist cadences; and the uncle who pees into a fountain, among other caricatures.

Aiming for an Altmanesque quality, the film fails miserably, undercut by the relentless broadness of its source material. What can be great fun to experience live becomes unbearably repetitive here, with only the occasional clever flourish -- the pre-credits "slide show" depicting mock advertisements for various Long Island businesses is a scream -- to relieve the tedium.
