David S. Goyer and Lou Llobell in Foundation (2021)

News

David S. Goyer

Why Did ‘Foundation’ Season 3 Take Such a Long Time?
Image
Foundation season 3 returned on July 11, 2025, after an almost two-year hiatus. The Apple TV+ series is based on Isaac Asimov’s books of the same name. The show has prided itself on its visual sci-fi spectacle and narratively dense writing that steers complex characters. As such, it is an ambitious adaptation in terms of production.

Season 3 faced multiple issues in getting up and running- there were budgetary complications as well as industry-wide strikes that complicated production and release. Making matters worse was the departure of creator David S. Goyer from the show. As such, making Foundation season 3 clearly had its set of challenges. However, despite the long gap, season 3 has bounced back with a perfect 100 % Rotten Tomatoes score.

Why Foundation Season 3 Changes The Original Sci-Fi Novel's Biggest Villain [Exclusive]
Image
Apple TV+ is home to the best sci-fi shows in all of television, showcasing the power and versatility of the genre. Arguably the streamer's best show is "Foundation," an adaptation of Isaac Asimov's epic sci-fi book series of the same name, which is hugely influential and also incredibly hard to adapt.

The show succeeds by remixing the books, heavily changing certain things in order to arrive at the same conclusion, as well as tweaking the tone to make the show more of a blockbuster, with epic action we only experience the aftermath of in the books. "Foundation" tells the story of the fall of a galactic empire, and the efforts by a group of scientists to prevent a dark age by establishing a rival nation called the Foundation, using psychohistory to predict large events and prepare for the future.

In season 3, "Foundation" is changing in one very big way: It's introducing a singular villain,...

Christopher Nolan Reveals the Film From His Filmography He Thinks Deserves More Credit
Image
Christopher Nolan thinks one of his biggest movies didn’t get the love it deserved. He recently talked about The Dark Knight Rises and called it an underrated film in his career. In his own words, “I don’t have a favorite of any of my films, but I think The Dark Knight Rises is an underrated movie. There are things in there that we did that are pretty subversive and pretty shocking. It’s as close as I’ll get to adapting A Tale of Two Cities.” Nolan believes there’s more going on in the movie than people usually talk about, and he sees it as more meaningful than most viewers give it credit for.

The Dark Knight Rises came out in 2012 and closed out Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The story takes place eight years after The Dark Knight. Bruce Wayne has disappeared from the public and given up being Batman.

Mahershala Ali dodges question about Blade in the MCU: “Leave me out of it”
Mahershala Ali
With Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe set to kick off this month with The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, it’s inevitable that we think of one of the fallen soldiers: Blade. While it hasn’t officially been canceled, it was initially supposed to come out this fall and has since been indefinitely delayed, further indicating that things just aren’t as sharp as the studio needs them to be. So where does that leave the planned star of Blade, Mahershala Ali? No further questions.

While promoting Jurassic World Rebirth, both Mahershala Ali and Scarlett Johansson were asked if they could name the MCU movies they had been in. Dodging the question, Ali said, “Leave me out of it…That’s a Scarlett question.” Not to speak for Johansson, but her answer is far less involved than Ali’s…

Man of Steel 2: Examining the Superman sequel that almost happened
Image
We almost got a Man of Steel sequel from the director of the last four Mission: Impossible movies. And according to him, it would have been “so f***ing good.”

With James Gunn’s Superman reboot finally here, talk of a sequel, crossovers, and even some early Justice League teases are already circulating online.

As of the recording of this video, I haven’t seen Superman yet—but one thing’s for sure: if this movie does even a little bit well, we can count on a sequel going into development right away.

Or can we?

See, Superman’s cinematic journey has never exactly been smooth. There’s Superman Lives, the infamous unmade project from Kevin Smith and Tim Burton, J.J. Abrams’ scrapped Superman: Flyby, and even the announced-then-silently-scrapped Man of Steel 2—which would have starred Henry Cavill and been directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

So today, we’re diving...

Apple TV+'s Underrated Sci-Fi Show Gets an Uncertain Update on Its Future Amid Renewal Rumors
Image
As Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed Foundationis gearing up for its third season on the streamer, fans may be wondering about the future of the science fiction series based on the book series by Isaac Asimov. It turns out that some of the cast are also among those who are waiting to see what will happen to the series, which currently boasts a 100% Rotten Tomatoes critic score for its second season.

In February 2025, Deadline reported that Apple TV had secretly given the go-ahead for a fourth season of Foundation and that Ian Goldberg (Fear the Walking Dead)had been named showrunner. Sources said at that time that Goldberg would be taking over executive producer and showrunning duties from series co-creator David S. Goyer, who had departed from the show.

Producer Reveals “Sinners” Bought Costumes From Stalled “Blade” Reboot
Image
The wardrobe worn by background vampires in Ryan Coogler’s runaway horror hit “Sinners” began life on a very different set: Marvel Studios’ long-troubled “Blade” reboot. Producer Sev Ohanian disclosed that the indie production bought “a warehouse full of period-appropriate clothes” from Marvel at cost after the superhero project slipped back into limbo.

Ohanian said the outfits had been built under two-time Oscar winner Ruth E. Carter, who was attached to “Blade” during an earlier iteration set in the 1920s. When that version collapsed, Carter’s stockpile proved a lifeline for “Sinners,” which needed era-specific garments on short notice. He stressed that principal cast members received fresh designs while “a lot of the background actors” donned the repurposed pieces.

Marvel’s vampire thriller has endured a revolving door of writers and directors—losing Bassam Tariq in 2023 and Yann Demange in 2024—before Disney removed it from the release slate and placed the project on indefinite hold.

'The Sandman' Returns to Netflix With Groggy Reception on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
After three years away, The Sandman finally made its triumphant return to Netflix yesterday with the first part of the second and final season. Were those initial six episodes worth the wait, though? That depends on who you talk to, as critics seem divided on how they feel about The Sandman Season 2, which hit Rotten Tomatoes with a 75% rating.

"The second season's opening episodes drag like an inescapable, non-refreshing Rem state," said critic Melanie McFarland, while Pat Stacey from The Irish Independent called it "ponderously paced" and "full of portentous waffle" that "mostly takes itself desperately seriously." Nick Hilton from was another critic who left a scathing review of The Sandman Season 2, writing:

"Like being trapped in a whirlwind of plot and intrigue, which never materializes into something solid enough to get to grips with. Too elusive to be emotive, too fast-paced to be introspective, The Sandman becomes an excessively intricate diorama.

Apple TV’s 100% Rotten Tomatoes Sci-Fi Series Gets an Uncertain Season 4 Update From Star
Image
Apple TV+’s Foundation has become one of the most acclaimed sci-fi shows on television — and with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score for its second season, the pressure is high as Season 3 approaches. But even as excitement builds for the show’s return on July 11, the future of the series beyond that remains surprisingly unclear, even for its stars.

Based on the sprawling book series by Isaac Asimov, Foundation follows the epic struggle to preserve civilization amid the inevitable fall of a galactic empire. Since its debut in 2021, the series has been lauded for its ambition, visual spectacle, and rich character arcs. But while Deadline reported back in February 2025 that Apple had quietly greenlit Season 4 — with Ian Goldberg (Fear the Walking Dead) stepping in as showrunner following David S. Goyer’s departure — the cast still seems to be waiting for official confirmation.

Speaking to TechRadar, Jared Harris (Hari Seldon) and Lou Llobell...

‘The Sandman’ Season 2 Review: Netflix Fantasy Braces for a Subversive, Mesmerizing Conclusion
Image
“The Sandman” returns to Netflix for a split second and final season; six episodes debut July 3 and the back six drop later in the month.

This may be a bit frustrating for the bingers out there, but take it from someone who’s seen the first half dozen: they have more than enough profound themes, character developments and batshit oddities to savor and ponder for weeks to come.

Neil Gaiman’s comic book demi-god Morpheus, aka Dream of the Endless, is again played with a somnambulant soulfulness by Tom Sturridge. Having reclaimed his magic accoutrements and mystical Dreaming kingdom after a long imprisonment in Season 1, the master of all our sleeping states now spends much of his time realizing that he’s never been a very good person. In Season 2 we learn how, over millennia, he’s let down siblings, the love of his life, his son and a wife...

The Sandman Season 2, Volume 1 Review — An Enchanting Evolution for the Fantasy Series
Image
Three years is a long gap between the first and second seasons of a show, but season two of Netflix’s The Sandman was plagued with delays, from the SAG/WGA strikes to allegations against its creator. Well worth the wait, The Sandman season 2 offers more of the strange adventures that fans came to love about the show.

The Sandman Season 2, Volume 1 Review

Adapted from the DC Comics that ran from 1989 to 1996, The Sandman follows Dream, one of the Endless and ruler of the Dreaming, as he must reconcile with his past misdeeds to protect his kingdom. Confirmed to be the last season of the show, Netflix and the show’s creators, David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg, have promised that this batch of twelve episodes will conclude Dream’s arc. Although this is an incredibly ambitious undertaking (whether out of design or necessity), this first batch of episodes gets off to an encouraging start.

Foundation Season 3 TV Review: The Apple TV+ sci-fi series continues to impress and grow more epic
Image
Plot: The Foundation has become increasingly established far beyond its humble beginnings while the Cleonic Dynasty’s Empire has dwindled. As both of these galactic powers forge an uneasy alliance, a threat to the entire galaxy appears in the fearsome form of a warlord known as “The Mule,” whose sights are set on ruling the universe by use of physical and military force as well as mind control. It’s anyone’s guess who will win, who will lose, who will live and who will die as Hari Seldon, Gaal Dornick, the Cleons and Demerzel play a potentially deadly game of intergalactic chess.

Review: It took seventy years for Isaac Asimov’s Foundation novels to make their way to screens, which is a testament to the challenge in adapting hard science fiction for mainstream audiences. Despite entering its third season, Foundation lags in popularity behind other genre offerings like The Rings of Power,...

The Hate Against David Corenswet’s Superman Should Vanish Really Quickly After His Comments on ‘All-Star Superman’
Image
The initial reception to David Corenswet’s Superman wasn’t exactly met with a unanimous roar, as the sting from Henry Cavill’s axing as the Man of Steel was still fresh. However, fans have been gradually warming up to this new iteration of the DC icon as more information about James Gunn’s forthcoming Superman movie continues to emerge.

And in addition to the promising trailers and TV spots, Corenswet’s recent comments on the All-Star Superman influence have only elevated this growing consensus.

David Corenswet’s comments make it clear he has done his homework for ‘Superman’

It’s no surprise that James Gunn‘s Superman heavily borrows from Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s All-Star Superman, especially when it comes to the tone. When asked about the inspiration, David Corenswet told Fotogramas, the actor explained the panel, which sees Clark observing the Earth from the Moon, truly...

Over Two Decades Ago, Christopher Nolan Almost Helmed A Historical Action Film Starring Brad Pitt
Image
Batman Begins co-writer David S. Goyer recently recalled the film's troubled production, admitting he was initially hesitant with the story treatment. It was serendipity that Christopher Nolan joined the project after rejecting the 2004 historical action film, Troy.

Nolan had reportedly always wanted to make a Batman movie and went on to work on The Dark Knight Trilogy instead.Batman Begins was released in 2005 and was a box office hit, greenlighting The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Batman Begins co-writer David S. Goyer recalled a different side to the story, hinting at shifting priorities behind Troy's production, and Nolan was already invested.

"The irony is that it appears that Batman was a consolation prize for Chris because he had been developing Troy," Goyer said. "Then, at some point, Troy was shifted away and given to [Wolfgang Petersen]." Petersen was developing another DC...

Murderbot producer confident "there will be another season"
Image
Over the past few years, Apple TV+ has carved out a solid niche for itself as the go-to streaming service for adult science fiction, with series like Foundation, For All Mankind, Silo, and Severance. It's also become known for renewing those series and giving them a chance to find their footing, unlike many other streamers. And when those two things meet, it's a thing of beauty for genre television fans.

Right now, the latest sci-fi show running on Apple TV+ is Murderbot, based on the beloved Murderbot Diaries books by Martha Wells. The show has been a blast to watch and has resonated with critics and audiences alike, but as of this writing it has not yet been renewed. But to hear executive producer David S. Goyer tell it, the chances are looking pretty good for the future of Murderbot.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade was one of the most anticipated movies in the MCU until Marvel Studios decided to cut the project loose for reasons that still haven’t been made public.

David S. Goyer, who is the writer of several iconic superhero movies like The Dark Knight trilogy and the original Blade movie, even offered his help to Marvel Studios for help with the reboot; however, Marvel simply stated that they had figured out the problem and that they didn’t need Goyer’s help. That was several months ago, until Blade was still in production!

Working on The Sandman season 2 amid Neil Gaiman allegations was "weird"
Image
When production on the second season of The Sandman was nearing completion, Neil Gaiman — the writer of the original comic book — was accused by multiple women of engaging in nonconsensual “rough and degrading sex," as revealed in 2024 during a podcast from Tortoise Media.

On the TV side of things, the allegations have caused ripple effects over various Gaiman-related projects. For instance, it was announced that Prime Video series Good Omens was going to conclude with a single, 90-minute episode rather than a full third season as originally planned. Additionally, Disney dropped plans for a live-action adaptation of Gaiman's children's novel The Graveyard Book.

As for Netflix's The Sandman show, the allegations came at a strange time. The show had already been renewed for 'more episodes,' and filming was well underway by the time the allegations against Gaiman surfaced. Many viewers believe that the show ending with its second...

Mahershala Ali's Honest Update on Blade Will Bum Fans Out

Progress on the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Blade reboot is far from sharp as the anticipated film remains in development hell. Amid recent comments from the original Blade trilogy's screenwriter, Blade 4 star Mahershala Ali adds to the project's uncertainty with his latest update.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the world premiere of Jurassic World: Rebirth, Ali provided a progress report that will further frustrate fans hoping to see his Daywalker grace the MCU. According to the Oscar-winning actor, he's long been ready to do the reboot, but has yet to hear from Marvel about the potential next steps. "I would love for Blade to happen. We'll see. I don't know where Marvel is at right now. I'm looking for the next great part. I really am," he said.

Wesley Snipes in Blade (1998)
Mahershala Ali is still down to film Blade: “Call Marvel, I’m ready”
Wesley Snipes in Blade (1998)
It’s been six years since Marvel Studios first unveiled Blade at San Diego Comic-Con, but the project has remained stuck in development hell ever since, cycling through writers and directors with no clear end in sight. One constant, however, has been Mahershala Ali, who remains committed to the role and is eager to finally bring Blade to life—assuming Marvel can ever get the film off the ground.

During the New York premiere of Jurassic World Rebirth, Ali was asked if he knew when production on Blade would finally begin. “Call Marvel,” he said. “I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready.”

I imagine Ali might be feeling a tad frustrated at this point, but kudos to him for sticking with it. Fans have been puzzled as to why Marvel is having so much trouble with Blade, including David S. Goyer, who scripted the original three movies starring Wesley Snipes.

Netflix's 'The Sandman' Producer Reveals Why the Show Is Ending in Season 2

David S. Goyer reveals the decision to end The Sandmanafter just two seasons, and it actually has nothing to do with the sexual allegations against author Neil Gaiman. The Sandman is one of the most critically acclaimed graphic novels of all time. After many failed attempts to adapt it over the years, it finally arrived in the form of a Netflix series in 2022, which combined the first two arcs of the popular graphic novel series. With over 75 comic issues to pull from, it was a shocking revelation that the series would only run for two seasons, consisting of 23 episodes.

Speaking with Variety, series co-creator David S. Goyer talked about the decision to end The Sandman after two seasons. Despite what many would expect, it did not have anything to do with the sexual misconduct allegations against the comic's original author, Neil Gaiman, "When the accusations first came out, I think...
