Biography

    • Fernando Fernández, the Mexican actor, director, and screenwriter who enjoyed his greatest screen success as an actor/singer in the cabaretera films of the late 1940s, was born on Novmber 3, 1916 in Puebla, Mexico.

He starred in many movies directed by his cousin/step-brother Emilio Fernández (his uncle, Emilio's father, married Fernando's mother after the death of her first husband, Fernando's father), including Enamorada (1946), Duelo en las montañas (1950), and Crepúsculo de Ódios (1958). Fernando also appeared in movies directed by his half-brother Jaime Fernandez, including El sinaloense (1985). He started working for STIC as a director at the América studios after being rejected by the STPC directors' union.

In 1960, Fernández suffered severe burns in an automobile accident that required extensive plastic surgery on his face and hands. This led to him cutting back on his acting, although he did take occasional acting roles later.

Fernando Fernández died on November 24,1999 of cardiac arrest in Mexico City.
