With the two-part series finale of The Conners airing Wednesday at 8/7c on ABC, the Emmy winner said the seven-season revival has gone by “so fast” as he opened up about bidding farewell to the patriarchal character he originated on Roseanne in 1988.

“It’s really hard. It’s something I’m going to miss for a while. I’m old and resistant to change,” he told People, adding: “It was so exciting when we got this together and it seems like it was two weeks ago. Showing up every day and just being here with everybody. It’s a great place to work.”

Goodman said, “It’s just being here every day and like [my costar] Jay [R. Ferguson] said, we just come in and laugh a lot. And it’s hard.”

ABC has set a March 26 premiere date for the comedy’s seventh and final season. The Conners is ending with an abbreviated, six-episode run; ABC announced the final season in May 2024.

The show will take up its usual 8 p.m. Wednesday time period for the final episodes. That spot’s current occupant, Shifting Gears, is scheduled to conclude its first season on March 19.

Season seven will bring the series to a total of 112 episodes, an increasingly rare accomplishment for a network comedy series. Only one other current live-action broadcast comedy — CBS’ The Neighborhood — has more than 100 episodes to its name. (Fox’s animated stalwarts The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers are also long past that mark.)

The Conners — a spinoff of ABC’s 2018 Roseanne revival that was canceled after one season following racist remarks by star Roseanne Barr — has been a solid performer throughout its run.

If you ask anyone to name their favorite TV show from the golden era of television, Breaking Bad would probably be at the top of the list for many. From Walter White’s dramatic transformation to the unforgettable Jesse Pinkman, it was a show that tempted audiences in a way few others did.

Last year, one of The Conners' executive producers said he felt the series may end with season six. An ABC executive later told him, "We didn't agree to that," and indicated the network had no plans to end the show.  Could The Conners still come to an end this season, or is it sure to at least be renewed for a seventh season? The network has picked up a seventh season of the comedy, which will be its last on the network. It’s also set to be the shortest of any of the show’s seasons, with an episode count likely in the single digits. The shortest previous season of The Conners was its first, which ran 11 episodes; this year’s strikes-shortened edition has 13. The series as a whole will have 106 episodes to its credit after the May 22 season finale.

The Conners premiered in fall 2018, a few months after ABC canceled its highly rated Roseanne revival following racist remarks by star Roseanne Barr. “The Conners” has been renewed for Season 7 at ABC, which will also be the show’s last. In addition, ABC has canceled “Not Dead Yet” after two seasons.

The final season of “The Conners” will reportedly be shorter than past seasons, with sources saying it will run for just six episodes. ABC declined to comment on the length of the season.

“The Conners” originally debuted on ABC in 2018.
