Why Cartoon Network Banned the Cow & Chicken Pilot Episode
Image
Quick Links Cow and Chicken Travel to the Depths of Hell The Red Guy Grew to Be One of the Show’s Best Assets Even After This Ban, Cow and Chicken Saw Great Success

Cartoon Network boasts a ton of acclaimed TV shows, especially during the 1990s. While Disney was focusing on tame animations like Quack Pack and Timon & Pumbaa, Cartoon Network was showing off a wide array of whacky animations. As such, this quickly put the network on top and allowed it to defeat a lot of dynamic competition.

Cow and Chicken is a prime example of the network's otherworldly approach and focuses on two immature anthropomorphic siblings. The characters exist within their own surreal universe, creating a wealth of humorous and entertaining plotlines. Though the show amassed a very devoted fan base, Cartoon Network swiftly removed its pilot episode after its original release. But what's the pilot about,...

Image
Jason Sudeikis didn’t hold back when it came to serving up some slick burns, Lasso-style. With Ted Lasso Season 3 wrapped up, critics who slammed the show as unbearable were in for a taste of Ted’s polite but razor-sharp comebacks.

Sudeikis, known for making kindness look effortlessly cool, wasn’t about to let the haters walk away unscathed. If there was one thing Ted taught us, it was that even in the face of the harshest words, you could still land the ultimate counterstrike—all while keeping that signature smile.

Hitpig! Review: An Eccentric Adventure in Animation
Image
Based on a story by cartoonist Berkeley Breathed, Hitpig is an animated comedy from British studio Ani venture. We meet Hitpig, a bounty hunter pig who has a change of heart after being hired to capture dancing elephant Pickles from her abusive circus owner employer, the eccentric Leapin’ Lord.

Directed by David Feiss and Cinzia Angelini, the film explores Hitpig and Pickles bonding on a whimsical journey that challenges Hitpig’s views on friendship, compassion, and his career choices.

Jason Sudeikis lends his voice to the gruff yet good-hearted Hitpig. Kids will love the hilarious performances from Rainn Wilson as the unhinged Leapin’ Lord and RuPaul as a flatulent polecat. The movie’s intended audience is young children, incorporating heartfelt messages about kindness alongside silly humor and colorful characters.

In this review, we’ll take a look at the plot and how Hitpig and Pickles’ relationship develops. We’ll examine...

Hitpig! Review — Cheap Animated Comedy is Exactly What You’d Expect
Image
At your local theater, you might’ve seen a gaudy-looking poster for a generic, cheap-looking animated film called Hitpig! If you were wondering if it was somehow good, I’m here to tell you that it’s exactly what you’d expect: a dumb, annoying, and predictable animated comedy without much going for it.

Hitpig! Review

Hitpig! follows a down-on-his-luck bounty-hunting pig, played by Jason Sudeikis, tasked to return an elephant (Lilly Singh) for a million-dollar payday. Hilarity ensues. Along the way, the two mismatched allies meet a wide variety of adversaries that threaten their mission and make it all the more ridiculous.

With a screenplay from three separate writers and two directors, it’s unsurprising that this story is all types of messy. We’re introduced to the titular Hitpig years after his caretaker was brutally murdered by a crocodile. It’s a weird way to start, and it...

First Weekend Of November Belongs To Sony With ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ & ‘Here’ – Box Office Preview
Image
Sony will own the first weekend of November at the box office, with the second frame of the Culver City lot’s Venom: The Last Dance down around 60%, or $20 million, for No. 1, followed by the studio’s release of Miramax’s adult drama Here.

Here, which reps the Forrest Gump reteam of filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, scribe Eric Roth and stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, is expected to do around $7M with an eye on hopefully pulling older adults out again this weekend after they made a date for Focus Features’ Conclave last weekend ($6.6M opening).

It remains to be seen whether Here slots in second place, giving Sony the frame’s 1-2 punch.

The question is whether audiences will go along with watching a generations drama story about various families on the same property/house at a skewed-degree angle. Hanks and Wright are technologically de-aged to their former 1980s/1990s selves,...

Hitpig Directors Cinzia Angelini & David Feiss Discuss Independent Animation and the Wonderful Jason Sudeikis (Interview)
Image
We’re a long way from the world of 1990s animation. New animation houses emerged with a splintering at Disney and the rise of Cartoon Network. Two animators who benefited from this world were Cinzia Angelini and David Feiss — the directors of the new release Hitpig. While Angelini found a home at DreamWorks, Feiss created Cartoon Cartoon hits Cow & Chicken and I Am Weasel. With Hitpig, the two animators-turned-directors have an opportunity to create a project that blends modern technology with nineties humor. Both Angelini and Feiss sat down with FandomWire to discuss their new film, the importance of independent animation, and adding Jason Sudeikis to Hitpig at the last minute.

Angelini and Feiss Began in 2D Animation

Both Angelini and Feiss began their careers in the world of 2D animation. Angelini contributed to 90s classics like Balto and Quest for Camelot before finding homes at Dreamworks. Meanwhile, Feiss...

What Sony Pictures Animation’s First 20 Years Say About Where It’s Headed Next (Exclusive)
Image
“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” the Oscar-winning 2018 animated film, shattered conventional wisdom around how animated movies could or should be made. But the groundbreaking comic book film was far from the first bold effort from Sony Pictures Animation. It wasn’t even Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s first risky film for the studio.

30 years ago, Sony Pictures Imageworks, a visual effects studio originally housed in the old TriStar building on the Sony lot, was formed. Their first assignment was doing pre-viz for the long-forgotten Bruce Willis-drives-a-police-boat thriller “Striking Distance” but 10 years later, Sony Pictures Animation was created, and Spa was given a purpose beyond visual effects for major live-action features.

Together, the two units would form a fascinating symbiosis – independent business units that function together; more intertwined than the typical client and vendor and willing to constantly one up each other, both technologically and story-wise, to create animated features...

Le laboratoire de Dexter (1996)
Cow And Chicken Creator David Feiss Explains His Original Idea For The Show And Network Notes About The Devil [Interview]
Le laboratoire de Dexter (1996)
(Welcome to My Most Ridiculous Note, a series of interviews in which animators talk about the weirdest and funniest notes they received from studio executives.)

The early days of Cartoon Network were a great place for weird and exciting cartoons. Once the network started airing original programming, shows like "Dexter's Laboratory," "Johnny Bravo," and "Courage the Cowardly Dog" delivered fun shows aimed at kids, with oftentimes bizarre imagery or adult situations that could be appreciated by audiences of all ages. In those early years, however, no show was as weird as "Cow and Chicken."

The show...

Wonder Park Super Bowl Trailer Takes You on a Magical Roller Coaster Ride
Mila Kunis, Norbert Leo Butz, Ken Hudson Campbell, Ken Jeong, Kenan Thompson, John Oliver, and Brianna Denski in Le Parc Des Merveilles (2019)
A new trailer for Wonder Park has arrived online. This movie has been in the work for a handful of years now, with production initially kicking off back in fall 2014. Nickelodeon Movies' latest has had a long road to theaters, but it's finally on the way and it's an imaginative look at the creative mind of a young individual. The studio apparently likes what they've got, as they shelled out money to debut this latest trailer ahead of the Super Bowl. Will that pay off? It's impossible to say, but we've got the new footage for you to check out anyway.

With the latest sneak peak arriving on Super Bowl Sunday, Wonder Park tells the story of a magnificent amusement park where the imagination of a wildly creative girl comes alive. The movie centers on June who, in her younger years, was obsessed with her imaginary amusement park named Wonderland...

‘Wonder Park’ Trailer: Chimpanzombies Bedevil All-Star Cast In Upcoming Toon
Mila Kunis, Norbert Leo Butz, Ken Hudson Campbell, Ken Jeong, Kenan Thompson, John Oliver, and Brianna Denski in Le Parc Des Merveilles (2019)
“It’s time to open the park” – an announcement for Wonder Park that seems to bear repeating in this first official full-length trailer for the upcoming animated feature from Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies.

Starring Jennifer Garner, Matthew Broderick, John Oliver, Mila Kunis, Kenan Thompson, Ken Jeong, Norbert Leo Butz, Brianna Denski and Ken Hudson Campbell, Wonder Park tells the story of young June (Denski), a “wildly creative” 12-year-old girl who once designed a magnificent amusement park that’s long since gone to weeds and rust.

And chimpanzombies. Best not to try for an explanation on that one – just watch the trailer above.

“My mom and I invented this place and somehow you came alive,” says June to a colorful menagerie that includes a big bear, a warthog, and a porcupine (“I’m nobody’s pin cushion”). June’s mom is voiced by Jennifer Garner.

The setting, of course, gives...

Michelle Murdocca is producing and Amy Jupiter is co-producing.

Culton previously directed Sony Animation's Open Season with Roger Allers, with Anthony Stacchi as co-director. Murdocca produced and Jupiter co-produced that film.
