You’ll almost certainly know Maria de Medeiros as the choppy-bobbed girlfriend, Fabienne, of Bruce Willis in Pulp Fiction (1994). But what you might not know is what she’s been up to since — unless you’re a longtime European art house expert, in which case, maybe you do.
The Portuguese actress, now 59, returns to the Berlin Film Festival this year with Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani’s Italian murder mystery (a genre referred to as giallo), Reflection in a Dead Diamond. The movie follows a retired spy — played by spaghetti Western icon Fabio Testi — residing in a luxurious hotel on the French Riviera. He becomes fascinated by his new neighbor, who rekindles memories of the Riviera’s vibrant days in the 1960s. But when his neighbor vanishes without a trace, Testi’s character is forced to confront his past demons.

I have an ongoing list of movies that show that most women are stuck dealing with either an explicitly evil man or a subtly evil man throughout their lives. The first type of men are blatant red flags, and you can notice that they reek of trouble from a million miles away. The second type of men are red flags as well, but you only get a whiff of the underlying issues once you have spent a significant amount of time with them. Currently, this list features Cold Meat, where a victim of abuse is saved by a serial killer. In Out Come the Wolves, there’s a volatile fiancé and a murderous best friend, and the protagonist has to decide who she should save to live peacefully. Challengers is also a great example, because all three of them are horrible people and deserve each other. But my most controversial...

Bruce Willis has worked incredibly hard throughout his Hollywood career, and hed still be pushing himself to the limit if help complications hadnt popped up. In the 2020s, the actor had made himself comfortable in the B-movie space, lending about 20 minutes of his precious time to several movies each year. For example, Willis had a whopping 12 film credits in 2022 alone. Unfortunately, this was the same year he was diagnosed with aphasia, which was later revised to frontotemporal dementia.

Quick Links How To Increase Tolerance Earn Points From Quests & Activities All Tolerance Ranks Every Rank & What It Means
Tolerance is one of five Royal Virtues in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Like the remaining four, you can increase its rank to climb Follower Bond ranks and unlock new dialogue options and character-specific side quests. While this doesn't affect where the main story ends, raising your Tolerance and other Royal Virtues opens new doors along Follower storylines. It can even influence your interactions with other NPCs throughout Euchronia.
You can gain Tolerance points from designated quests and small, seemingly menial decisions, like kindly turning down Gallica's Redgrass-Roasted Bidou recipe alterations. Every Follower in Metaphor: ReFantazio offers boosts to specific Royal Virtues, too, and Heismay is your guy for a lesson in Tolerance. Raise its rank by spending time with him or completing other activities that promise points, from helping Fabienne at the...

In line with the "Help the Hushed Honeybee" quest in Metaphor: ReFantazio, you'll need to get your hands on the ingredients for Redgrass-Roasted Bidou to help Fabienne and the quest creator, Young Nidia. This will take you on a wild goose chase of sorts through Grand Trad. If all goes well, you can earn Wisdom points, Revee, and even snag the dish's recipe for yourself.
Lending a helping hand at the Hushed Honeybee Inn will get you well-acquainted with Metaphor: ReFantazio's cooking feature, among a handful of other quest rewards. Of course, you'll need to spend money to make money in the meantime, as Fabienne's recipe calls for three ingredients that you'll need to obtain yourself if you hope to learn it. You can always turn down the offer if you'd rather save on funds, but the rewards far outweigh the risks with a small investment.

It’s no secret that Dune: Part Two has become one of 2024’s biggest hits so far. Starring Rebecca Ferguson, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and other A-listers, Denis Villeneuve’s magnum opus is currently all over the news. Even before the film hit the theatres, the actors have been packed with interviews and red-carpet events.
Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica in Dune
Recalling one such interview with Rebecca Ferguson, where the actress shared a hilarious story about how her daughter, fans seemingly lost their minds. According to the actress, her daughter once mistook Timothée Chalamet for her dad, after noticing him on a dirty Willy Wonka-themed Valentine’s Day card. Curious to know more, fans finally tracked it down on X. But hold on, the card is more horrifying than expected.

The saying goes that in order to understand someone, you have to walk a mile in their shoes, but Alex Schaad’s broad yet entrancing “Skin Deep” offers an alternate method: In order to understand someone, try swapping bodies with them for a few days. That solution might be less efficient, but it’s far more complete. Indeed, the mysterious white tower at the center of the Esalen-like island retreat where this lightly supernatural German drama takes place is nothing if not a machine that creates empathy. It creates other feelings too, but the people who seem most receptive to and transformed by the experience tend to think of empathy as the ultimate goal, if only because they’ve exhausted all other means of achieving it.

Skin Deep tackles the role of the body in shaping our identity and showcases that our bodies are more than just our appearances. The movie explores the complexities of chronic illness, highlighting the different ways individuals experience and perceive their own illnesses. The premise of couples swapping bodies raises questions about the merging of identities in relationships and the potential impact on personal agency. The film portrays the joys and conflicts of intertwining lives with another person.
In spite of the age-old idea, the characters of Skin Deep do not lose their minds when confronted with their own bodies inhabited by someone else, at least not all of them. The slowly unraveling premise of this thoughtful drama finds a couple, Leyla and Tristan, visiting an island where they are able to swap bodies with others. The pair is primarily played by Mala Emde and Jonas Dassler, respectively, but obviously, this changes throughout the narrative.

Alex Schaad’s Skin Deep is a film with a body-swapping premise that’s notable for its restraint. Though as fresh and conceptually far-reaching as a David Cronenberg film, it traffics in body ambivalence more than body horror, striking an eerie, wistful tone.
The story hinges on the interplay of various couples. The central of these, Leyla (Mala Emde) and Tristan (Jonas Dassler), travel by ferry to a remote and idyllic island where seasonal body-switching rituals take place. There they join Leyla’s friend Stella (Edgar Selge) in the initially jarring form of her elderly father, who recently died while inhabiting Stella’s aneurism-prone body. Leyla’s been suffering from chronic depression, so she and Tristan have decided to give the ritual a try, in the hope that a temporary shift in embodied perspective might help. They’re paired by lottery with another couple: Fabienne (Maryam Zaree) will swap with Leyla,...
