Ring in the New Year with Zombie Hamlet on DVD
“Is this the end of zombie Shakespeare?” It would appear not, as John Murlowski’s comedy Zombie Hamlet makes its way onto DVD on December 31st. Written by John McKinney and with original music by Jackson Rathbone, whom you might remember from Twilight or, if you’re too ashamed to admit you knew that, the indie horror flick Dread.

The film stars Travis Wester, Jason Mewes, Shelley Long, Vanessa Lee Evigan, John Amos, and June Lockhart.

Zombie Hamlet tells the story of first-time film director, Osric Taylor (Travis Wester), as he finally manages to get his dream movie financed. He envisions Shakespeare's Hamlet set against the epic backdrop of the American Civil War. Osric heads to a small Louisiana town to start filming when his production funding unexpectedly dries up. With no other options, he agrees to accept southern matron Hester Beauchamp's offer to finance his movie, as long as...

DVD Review: Sand Sharks
Sand Sharks

Stars: Corin Nemec, Gina Holden, Julie Berman, Brooke Hogan, Nick Hogan, Vanessa Lee Evigan | Written by Cameron Larson | Directed by Mark Atkins

When you get a movie to review called Sand Sharks you can already guess what is coming. This is going to be one of those crazy shark films that use dodgy CGI and bad acting but just don’t seem to care. They don’t make these films to be good, if anything they ham it up to insane levels and just go with it. You’ll either groan or just go with it and love it. I’m one of those people that usually groan but I gave Sand Sharks a chance.

The stories for these movies are pretty barebones at best but I’d say this one actually tried to some extent, being that it stole the Jaws idea and runs with it with...

Sand Sharks (2011) Movie Review
The search for the bottom of the creature feature barrel continues with “Sand Sharks”, a film which explores the long pondered philosophical question as to what would happen if sharks could in fact swim through sand. Boldly tackling this controversial issue are director Mark Atkins (also responsible for the charming “Battle of Los Angeles”) and writers Cameron Larson (“Mysterious Island”, “Alligator X”) and Joe Benkis (“Shadow People”), with an intriguing cast of television stars and vaguely familiar genre faces that includes Corin Nemec (“Supernatural”), Brooke Hogan (“Brooke Knows Best”), Gina Holden (“Saw 3D”), Julie Berman (“General Hospital”), Nick Hogan (“Hogan Knows Best”) and Vanessa Lee Evigan (“Journey To The Centre Of The Earth”). For the brave or curious, “Sand Sharks” hits region 2 DVD in January through Chelsea Films. The plot, such as it is, proudly follows the time honoured “Jaws” formula pretty much to the letter, kicking off with a...

Brooke Hogan and Corin Nemec battle Sand Sharks
This one has Syfy Channel written all over it, which means I will watch it.

An underwater earthquake cracks open a crater deep beneath the ocean’s surface unleashing a prehistoric predator. On the sleepy island of White Sands, local teens drink and party beside a beach bonfire. One of them wanders off after a pretty girl and disappears, leaving only a severed hand behind. It appears it’s been bitten and ripped off by a vicious animal. This looks like a shark bite, but it’s found well above the high tide line, it can’t be a shark… Or can it? Jimmy Green (Corin Nemec), prodigal party boy and son of the mayor, returns home to White Sands with a scheme to breathe some life into the dying economy (and clear his debt to a mobster) by throwing a huge spring break party: The Sandman Festival. Jimmy runs into his ex,...

Sand Sharks Trailer is Here to Bring Joy to the World
I don’t care what sweet candy you get in your trick or treat bag this Halloween; this just posted trailer for Sand Sharks is the tastiest treat you’ll snack on all day. It’s the Piranha 3D meets Blood Beach movie you’ve been waiting for.

Spring breakers have gathered for the annual Sandman Festival. Organizer Corin Nemec smells money. Unfortunately, a species of prehistoric sand tiger shark smells blood. Deputy Sheriff Vanessa Lee Evigan wants to close the beach when revelers fall victim to a shark that can swim through sand like water.

If that premise sounds too far-fetched for your feeble minds, then now might not be the best time to mention the shark scientist they turn to is played by Hulk Hogan’s daughter, Brooke Hogan.

The demented geniuses behind Sand Sharks are screenwriter Cameron Larson and filmmaker Mark Atkins, a long-time Asylum director most...
