‘Ruthless’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Dermot Mulroney, Melissa Diaz, Mauricio Mendoza, Tonantzin Esparza, Rafael Cabrera, Jeff Fahey | Written by Art Camacho, James Dean Simington, Javier Reyna, Koji Steven Sakai | Directed by Art Camacho

With ten movies and five episodes of TV shows to his credit for 2023, Dermot Mulroney seems to be vying to fill the gap left by the retirement of Bruce Willis. Ruthless proves he’s already mastered sleepwalking through a film every bit as well as he could. Sadly, he won’t be the only one sleeping as this film manages to make human trafficking deadly, deadly dull, that is.

Harry just wanted to go watch a movie. But he ends up telling off some kid who isn’t listening when his date says no. That, of course, leads to the kid pulling a knife on him in the parking lot. That’s not a good idea because Harry is a man...

‘Due Justice’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Kellan Lutz, Robin Magdhalen, Manu Intiraymi, Jeff Fahey, Chelsea Lopez, Efren Ramirez, Tonantzin Esparza | Written and Directed by Javier Reyna

Due Justice is the latest film in the never-ending line of Taken wannabes where a former badass has to go back into action to rescue their kidnapped daughter. In this case, it’s Max an attorney who, along with his boss Claire are lawyers celebrating winning their latest case when Max hears a familiar voice from across the restaurant.

It’s his brother Jerry who isn’t happy to see him, probably due to the company he’s dining with. As it turns out, Jerry was undercover for the FBI and that meeting triggered the suspicion of Ellis, Roxy and their crew. It’s not long before both Jerry and Max’s wife are dead, and his daughter abducted while he’s at the office working late.

Official Trailer for 'Ruthless' Action Thriller Starring Dermot Mulroney
Image
"Pick your fights, Harry!" "I will." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for Ruthless, another action crime thriller from the direct-to-video trash pile getting a release this year. Ruthless is the latest film from director Art Camacho, and it's yet another of these "one man will fight to stop a trafficking ring" stories that are being used over-and-over these days. Not at all original, and not really an interesting premise anymore beyond making people endlessly fearful and worried. Also similar to the original Taken. In Ruthless, a high school coach, whose teenage daughter was murdered, takes matters into his own hands and going after the men who kidnap his student as part of a human trafficking operation. Dermot Mulroney stars as Harry, along with Jeff Fahey, Melissa Diaz, Mauricio Mendoza, Tonantzin Esparza, and Niko Foster. I will admit, Mulroney does look badass in this being so burn-it-all-down ruthless in here.

Oscar Watch: Even the Rain (From Spain)
See the trailer here. Today I was treated to, or better expressed, awarded, an intimate lunch where I got to sit at a table for six which included Even the Rain's director Iciar Bollain ♀ and its producer Juan Gordon, its U.S. distributor Vitagraph's David Schultz, and one of its most important theatrical exhibitors Landmark Theater's buyer David McAllister, Maya's Tonantzin Esparza and a critic (whose name I did not catch). The discussion was sociable, stimulating and sometimes acutely focused on the film itself. Luckily for Vitagraph, a small and very well connected distributor whose output is some 15 films…...
