Disney villains can be as popular as the heroes, but there are still many great villains from throughout the years who deserve more appreciation. Many of the best Disney villains ever, like Cruella, Ursula and Scar, have fans of their own, and people watch their movies just to see them in action. Not every Disney animated movie needs a great villain, but they often add another layer for fans to appreciate.
Good Disney villains, like any good movie villains, need to highlight the story's themes and reveal truths about the main characters. Disney villains tend to stand out with their flamboyant visual designs, and a memorable musical number can also help. Ultimately, not all Disney villains get the love they deserve, either because their movies aren't too popular, or because they don't exactly fit the mold.

First there was Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend, the 2022 film starring Frank Grillo and written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Robert Moresco (Crash). Then came the higher-octane Ferrari, the 2023 biopic directed by Michael Mann, with Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz and Shailene Woodley. Now, in Rome’s famed Cinecittà studios, another legendary Italian supercar manufacturer is being immortalized in Moresco’s Maserati: The Brothers, with Italian actor Michele Morrone playing one of the three siblings who founded the trident brand in 1914. (Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia and Jessica Alba also star.)
The producer behind all three films, 37-year-old Italian Canadian Andrea Iervolino, is bringing these automotive origin stories to the screen at a time when Hollywood is going motor mad. Witness the forthcoming F1 starring Brad Pitt, or the recently announced Austin Butler and Tom Holland movie American Speed, or the fresh rumors that Tom Cruise plans to reboot his 1990 NASCAR movie Days of Thunder.

An underrated crime thriller starring Emmy-winning actor Jeremy Allen White is now available to stream for free. The actor has enjoyed an already impressive career since breaking onto the scene in 2011 as Lip Gallagher in Shameless. In addition to numerous indie films like The Rental and Fingernails, White played Kerry Von Erich in A24's The Iron Claw and, of course, Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto in FX and Hulu's The Bear. He is also currently filming Deliver Me from Nowhere, a Bruce Springsteen biopic in which White plays the Boss himself.
Sometimes entries in an actor's filmography are released to little fanfare and await rediscovery. That's certainly the case with Bad Turn Worse, also known as We Gotta Get Out of This Place, a 2013 crime thriller starring White, Mackenzie Davis, Logan Huffman (Final Girl), William Devane (The Dark Knight Rises), Mark Pellegrino, and John Gries (The White Lotus). It was...

It took director Ariel Kuaray Ortega almost two decades to be able to tell a story he’s heard throughout his entire life: the strange tale of Canuto, a man who mysteriously transformed into a jaguar and then died a tragic death. The resulting film, “Canuto’s Transformation,” had its world premiere at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, where it took the award for best film in the Envision Competition and the outstanding artistic contribution award.
The film, co-directed with Ortega’s longtime creative partner Ernesto de Carvalho, mixes documentary and a re-enactment of the story of Canuto with all parts played by villagers from a Mbyá-Guaraní community nested on the border between Brazil and Argentina.
Speaking exclusively with Variety ahead of the film’s world premiere at the festival, Ortega said: “When I first mentioned this story to Ernesto back in 2009, I didn’t know the format I wanted for this film.
